New Way to Improve Vehicle Use

So throughout the years Halo has seen its fair share of some good and bad changes. Sadly, Halo 4 suffers from a bad change which i think should be fixed, and that is Vehicle Warfare. Each Halo game has brought us new vehicles to use, which i am grateful for, but after 6 games i feel that they can add something fresh to vehicle gameplay.

Think about if each vehicle had the option to have a certain vehicle abilities. These attributes could be assigned based off if 343 decides to still use classes. Think sort of how battlefield allows you to customize your vehicle classes. I’m not saying that 343 uses the same concept, just to give you a picture.

NOTE All abilities reflect only what the driver of the vehicle has set. (for vehicles with passenger seats)

Now, the certain abilities i have come up with as of right now are:

Mongoose → <mark>Gunning</mark>: Mongoose has small turret on front that allows driver to fire off shots
→ <mark>Bailout</mark>: Driver plants grenade on mongoose and bails out (mongoose travels for about 3-5 ft before blowing up)

Warthog → <mark>Shield Deflection</mark>: This sort of works like Halo Reach’s armor lock. The driver would be allowed to activate an energy shield that surrounds the warthog for 3-5 seconds, allowing it to deflect any oncoming emps, lasers, and grenades.

Ghost → <mark>Boost</mark>: They driver never has to worry about their boost draining.
→ <mark>Unstunned</mark>: The driver, when highjacked, is not stunned and has a better chance at rehighjacking their vehicle.

Tank and Wraith → <mark>Double Tap</mark>: The driver is allowed to fire off a second shot almost immediately after firing their first.
→ <mark>EMP</mark>: The driver, when hichjacked, shoots off an emp causing the highjacker to be forced off.

Banshee → <mark>Maneuvering</mark>: Driver has faster maneuvering capabilities. (Faster than Halo 4 but slower than Reach)
→ <mark>Self Destruct</mark>: The driver, when highjacked, has the choice to self destruct, killing themselves and the highjacker, along with destroying your vehicle. (Does not count as a suicide)

Well these are all of the ones I have right now. If anyone has any others they’d like to add I’m all ears, and maybe 343 is as well.

I’ll post my thoughts from your other thread:

I had an at length discussion with my friend with why Halo 4 didn’t live up to it’s expectations. This is one of the big issues we both had. Vehicles are about next useless in MP. The amount of anti-vehicle weapons available and the fact that weapons are easily obtainable via ordnance make a vehicle a death trap waiting to happen.

They need to address the issue of this and the fact that most vehicles die very quickly. (Looking at you Ghost.) I don’t know if the Banshee change was intentional or just a really bad piloting system put in place. If it was intentional revert it please. The Halo Reach Banshee was a good representation of how it should operate. It should be a quick agile fighter that can maneuver out of danger quickly. If you plan to keep the amount of anti-vehicle weapons in place then there was no reason to change how the Banshee maneuvered.

I’d like to see the Spectre back for the Covenant and make it the equivalent of the Hog. I’d like to see the Mongoose back as it serves a purpose but I’d like to see a modded version that works like the Ghost to make it interesting.

Scorpion and Wraith felt the same as usual but again, the amount of AV weapons ruined any chance of doing anything in them.

Mantis feels right at home in MP multiplayer and actually has things right. Because of the large amount of AV weapons it had increased survivability and maneuverability to combat this. Nothing really needs to be changed with it.

Then comes to the final problem of lack of vehicles. What happened to the Falcon/Hornet? Halo 3 had so many weapons and near perfect weapon balance in place. Why did they condense the game and make it have less options?

These are all my opinions though. I agree with you OP your ideas seem decent and I hope 343 realizes that Halo is a Ground/Air/Vehicle combat shooter too.

Yeah, i remember in Halo 3 when the other team had a vehicle you had to actually strategize on how to take it out. Now, whenever a vehicle pops up, one person can deal with the situation on their own and doesn’t have to rely on team assistance.

Some good ideas. Vehicle’s have always had a part in Halo multiplayer and there is a lot of options 343i could explore with using them further. I think they need some bigger maps if they want to take them seriously though.

This is pretty interesting, but for the sake of not making this worse than perks, I think every vehicle should have one unique ability that makes it more fun. Also, I think the mongoose should have a cover on it or something. What’s the point of having a rolling coffin?

Because in MP the driver/riders give me lots of free double kills!!

The majority of the community hates perks. Adding them to vehicles would make it even worse.

it’s just a new way to try and allow vehicles have more reason’s to use them because as of now a lot of people avoid them since they are so easy to destroy.

Then take Plasma Pistols and Plasma Grenades out of load-outs (which will never, ever happen; at least in Halo 4)

…or buff the vehicles.

In Slayer Pro, it seems to me that vehicles are used far more often (especially the Warthog).

I love the classic halo formula gameplay, but you honestly can’t just do the same thing you do for every game. That’s why so many people complain about COD. Halo actually tries to innovate new ways while keeping the similar formula from it’s past games. Unfortunately not every change was for the best, but some (like certain armor abilities and the create class) help the game feel fresh and new from the other ones. The way it seems to be going it looks like 343 is trying to look to expand from what they have now so why not try to think of some fresh new gameplay mechanics that try to balance out the overall game.

I agree that vehicles in H4 have very short life times. They should change the name of “Wart Hog” to “Double Kill Hog”.

They would not need to make all these vehicle changes if they cut the Plasma Grenade down to one and / or removed Plasma Grenades and Plasma Pistols from the load outs.

Scatter a couple of Plasma Pistols and single Plasma Grenades around the maps in the same place and at reasonable re-spawn times and you still have some defence against vehicles.

That’s pretty much how it is in Halo Reach and frankly, BTB or BTB Heavy games are usually pretty balanced. The only vehicle defence load out in Reach is “Armour Lock” and that mainly just prevents splattering. There is a great deal of satisfaction in having a Ghost going in for the Splatter kill - only to drive full speed into my armour lock and explode. Or a Hog driver goes to run me over and I flip his Hog over, then kill them when they get tossed out of it.

But if they were to make vehicle changes, I would love them to add in the Reach Falcon Helicopter. Loading up 3 people (2 gunners and a pilot) into one and then hosing down the enemy was a total riot today in BTB - right up until they hit us with a Plasma Rifle and we exploded.

I’m just not sure if more perks would help balance out the game. It’s hard enough to create a perfectly balanced match when every player spawns with different weapons and different attributes (in fact, it’s nearly impossible).

To tone down vehicle destruction, I suggest:

  • Loadout weapon damage to vehicles is significantly lowered
  • Plasma Pistol’s EMP “duration” is slightly nerfed (along with a slight damage boost)

If still necessary:

  • Buff the vehicles that are still too weak (most likely the Warthog)

The main problem is that Big Team Battle maps are horrible for vehicle play. That’s not necessarily a problem with the vehicles but of the game itself. And… it doesn’t help when you’re able to spawn with a Plasma Pistol and two Plasma Grenades–instantly.
