That would be VERY pricy.
Honestly it looked lame. Not that it can’t be good, but it looked really lame.
For one, Halo is one of those Sci Fi franchises which have a heavy emphasis on the interaction between Alien and Human, be it fighting or cooperation.
The trailer’s 1 action sequence is on the level of H3’s TV spot live action, which looks really “staged”
What people want is Halo ODST’s Live action.
This is the level of action which truly captures the Halo franchises’ atmosphere in the sense of conflict.

Honestly second this.
It looked very very fake.
They the micro-transaction system they have going, I am sure they had for Halo 5 and what the have for Infinite, they could easily afford it.
I for one think it looks pretty solid. The only thing that’s a little meh to me is Chief’s voice. But that could very well be me just not being used to it. I’m sure it’ll grow on me, new voices usually do.
Yeah they could afford it… but a business wants to make money.
So which production would get the results at a cheaper cost?
Physical landscapes with physical assets with a few CGI pieces here and there? Or a full CGI production from start to finish?
I would LOVE to see Blur Studios make Halo TV shows and movies.
Instead we are more likely to get stuff like this.
At least when CGI is involved, it is believable and not detached from the reality since they pool all the budget into where it matters and not the whole production (plasma effects, aliens, space vistas, etc.)
100% agree with you on this
It is very interesting to see, that everybody, no matter if he likes or dislikes 343i or Halo Infinite and no matter how offensive they already argued with each other, really dislikes the trailer of the TV series and discusses that in a very friendly and civil manner.
I’m just not very interested in a non-canonical show, I’m too invested in the main timeline.
I’ll check it out when it comes out but I don’t really care if it ends up being good or bad.
Such a missed opportunity not to use the higher budget to ad something amazing to the main canon world.
The action scenes looked cool but I cringed hard when I saw Cortana and Chiefs voice sounded like someone who just tried to make his voice way lower than it actually was. But those things might only bother me because I’m used to something else.
If this ends up getting new people into the “real” Halo, then I’m fine with it I guess. But it’s not for me.
The things that unite us!
Agreed! It was a mistake to focus on Spartans in live action. Something like Landfall would be brilliant, it has to be gritty and focused on the humans, then it can potentially have a few brief moments with covenant up close, but should otherwise keep them at a distance to make things look realistic.
No, I think the issue isn’t the Spartans or anything. It’s the shooting of the action sequences so far, alongside with the live action actors that feel staged.
If you rewatch Landfall, it’s really not that great when it comes to Alien vs Human interaction on screen. What I would consider better on screen interaction will be Halo 3 ODST’s We are ODST and Halo Reach’s Deliver Hope.
Those have live action actors and the aliens on screen together without looking too out of place, and the combat setting isn’t “sterile” in any way like Landfall or the TV series trailer. There’s a battle happening in the background, Banshees flying around, gunfire kicking up dust everywhere.
Interesting take! I imagine if I revisited We are ODST I might agree with you. I always really loved Landfall, particularly the Brute Chieftan. It certainly is a bit dated now. I just feel that the Spartans are much harder to design and get right than the ODSTs, who at least have a cloth looking base garment that is easy to relate to, whereas Mjolnir seems much harder for a costume designer to tackle.
Here check this out as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6j-VXO-eTY
EDIT: CG really doesn’t beat actual props and costumes.
Still remembering Halo Legends I see?
This is awesome! thanks for sharing. I really liked the visual quality of that short, but felt that it was a bit simplistic and a bit over the top with Thom flying up there and detonating the nuke and the final shot of him. The action is pure gold though. I think I was partial to Landfall because it was dark and desperate and I think that the hope/heroics side of Halo is best when it’s not too heavily emphasized.
Well yea we all have stories and characters we prefer, my beef with the TV series was specifically about the action sequences.
This is why it wouldn’t be as easy to replace Steve Downes as most people think. The Master Chief in the trailer was very obviously trying to sound like him, and even more obviously failing. The characterization of the UNSC gets on my nerves as well. It’s as if the UNSC simply ceased to exist, and ONI took over and pretended to be it. Also, Human living with the covenant will not make sense, can not make sense, and never could make sense. Even in the TV show, the covenant are very clearly raging this war exclusively with the goal of completely eradicating the human race. To reiterate, IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! Also, that’s not Cortana. Maybe it’s some other AI that Halsey created, but I refuse to believe that that whatever-it-is is Cortana.
But hey, enough negativity. I really did like the armor/covenant/weapon designs. Exactly what I was expecting, fairly close to the games but with some small differences. Forerunner designs looked pretty good too.
Which sounds like “Let’s expect some mediocrity”.
And to be fair, what else could you expect from 343i?
It’s so cringe it almost hurts.
But I can see the prospect of a Halo universe series focusing on a Sangheli defector and their journey through the system avoiding both UNSC and Covenant forces while wandering around, because having defected he has betrayed the honor of the elites. Who he meets and interacts along the way wouldn’t matter then, human rebellion forces etc.
And to wrap up the series, he meets Atriox and joins the Banished.
And of course, have Blur studios work on it as well. Their work on H2A is impeccable in bringing to life the closest we will ever see to Aliens and Humans being on screen together.
