They did the same thing in Forward Unto Dawn live action, not that hard for most people to do a pretty close imitation, can’t be hard to find someone that could easily fool us, or why not just use Steve?!
I might be reading way too much into this:
-
Halsey doesn’t seem as affectionate towards the Spartans. In Halo 4 she is the one saying they’re not military hardware and that’s exactly what she’s saying here.
-
She seems to have given Cortana to the Chief not to look after him “maintain that efficiency” but to keep tabs on him basically and keep him controlled.
-
They’re probably going to make something of the idea that Spartans and AI are both being controlled by the UNSC and sort of slaves in a sense. So that’s probably going to factor into why they empathise with eachother and why Cortana would be the one to move towards the whole taking care of eachother.
Hard disagree. I thought it looked great, aside from the voice of MC
I think that Chief’s voice is harder to swallow than Cortana’s new look. Didn’t care for the AK for some reason appearing either…
Overall I do agree that live action isn’t the best direction for a Halo show, as long as it is focusing on Spartans. ODSTs, sure. Look at the Landfall shorts from before Halo 3.
I really just don’t think I can get onboard with the Silver timeline. It feels disrespectful to the pre-existing canon.
Halsey did seem to have that sentiment originally, though it may have just been a way for her to cope with kidnapping children. Which came out in Cortana, since she was made from Halsey’s brain.
Did 343i colab on this? Has the vibe they touched it… Watched it with some buddies and we laughed out loud… It was pretty bad. Such a shame.
Well hiring a gaming company for a full movie would probably be odd choice, I think it would make more sense if they just had a good Animation studio do it, but regardless Live Action is typically far inferior to animation for Sci-fi and the only reason they’re good nowadays is because of tons of CGI to make it look cool.
For example, a great Sci-fi movie I watched recently was called Upgrade, was about a guy that becomes a cyborg with a bunch of deeper human vs AI meaning behind it. You’ll notice how the movie essentially uses no CGI or at least very little, it works as a Sci-fi movie because it focuses on the human side of everything and is very simple in terms of scale.
Halo is a series filled with huge space battles, crazy alien monsters (that can’t really be replicated or pulled off as well in real life) and grand concepts, it simply isn’t suited for Live Action no matter how well they pulled it off.
To be fair though, I actually think the most intelligent story they could tell would be UNSC vs Rebel factions (I believe that is what they were called) because it would all be human vs human (very little to no CGI needed) and would just tell a different story than what everyone is used to.
Well aside from the B list voice actors they seemingly went with here, the larger issues (what I just stated above) will become obvious once you see the full movie. Elites look dope, but I seriously question if they can adequately capture Halo’s magic in film, especially in a Live Action one.
I’ll reserve judgement until the show comes out and I can actually watch it, it wouldn’t be the first time a trailer hasn’t done a good job of accurately representing what you’re going to get.
I was a little disappointed that the trailer didn’t seem to feature $7 helmets, people getting shot from around corners or characters disconnecting during engagements with more than 4 people per side… things that 343 have led me to believe are now integral to the Halo franchise.
(Obvious jokes, someone had to make them).
You may laugh, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some armour ends up in the game.
I love the movie upgrade and it did have a fair amount of CGI. Also, is Blur Studios actually a gaming studio? I only know of them doing the cutscenes for Halo 2 and Halo Wars. Animation would be cool as well, though. I love everything about Halo Legends.
cant even tell which guy talkin was meant to be chief
Oh I fully expect they will look at some kind of tie-in relating to in-game content. I mean if you can get armour sets for buying lipstick and energy drinks then a TV show based on franchise has got to have something right?
If it’s March they’d probably have to do that fairly shortly. I am surprised the data miners haven’t found anything for it.
Maybe some content that will appear in the show is already in the game and we just don’t know it… oh God the show is going to feature Spartans with bumper stickers for eSports teams, cat ears and holographic mohawks isn’t it?
Considering how great all of the live action trailers for the games are - from the Believe ads to the ODST trailer and even the ones for Infinite - I found it underwhelming.
It reminded me of that Star Wars: Rogue One trailer with the, “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” line.
We’ll see though.
I mean, yeah, the Chief is starting his going AWOL a lot earlier if that Pelican scene is anything to go by. Some people are definitely going to complain that the UNSC are the good guys and it’s a false conflict etc etc
But I have to admit. The UNSC did kidnap kids to make Space Marines. Does the Chief have a choice in that? The game doesn’t really address that issue. Can a Spartan just walk away? Is there some kind of Indoctrination at play? Do they have rights or are they just military hardware regardless of how the average trooper views them? A normal nation state doesn’t do things like that. Kidnap, child abuse, slavery to create a Death Squad to put down rebellious colonies.
I never felt the games made the obvious leap that “oh, maybe there’s something wrong with the UEG.”
Still, it’s probably going to be like the New Republic in the Mandalorian. They are not the villains. They just sometimes get in the way of doing what’s right.
my only questions: will Thel Vadame be a character in the series and will keith david be voicing him. cus that would be MF’n godlike
The TV show is non-canon so I expect that A LOT of loose-stuff will be thrown around.
My main hope is that if/when we get the Mark VI Gen-3 Armor Core in Halo Infinite, the cosmetic items we see worn by the other Spartans in the show will be available as helmets, shoulders, and whatnot.
Well, at least Cortana wasn’t genderswapped like Kynes in Dune. So that’s a big W.
I’m not a hardcore Halo fan, I’m not that used to MC voice or Cortana look from previous games, so for me, it looks okay-ish. But I can understand that people who are used to those things from games can be mad about changes.
I just hope fans disliking the changes won’t bury this series like it happened with some, where we neither got an accurate series, nor light-spirited off-shoot series loosely based on a franchise, which could attract people into the game itself.
