New to XBox and Halo

First off, hello! We have always been PS players but our son asked Santa for an XBox this year (and received it). So…we are not very XBox privy. Our son that received the XBox let his younger brother (who is 5 and plays Destiny on PS4) play Halo 5 online and isn’t very good at it yet. Well, needless to say he caused his brothers account to get banned! We had no clue this was possible or how to undo it. Would anyone be so kind as to explain it to me to prevent it from happening again and tell me how to resolve this issue? Thank you in advance!

As far as I know, bans are only given to people who misbehave online…

Halo 5 in particular give temporal bans to players who quit very regularly during online matches

Was his Xbox LIVE account banned? Or did he get banned from Halo 5 matchmaking?

For LIVE, I don’t know how to help you.

For mathcmaking, you just have to wait an hour or two.

5 is too young to play halo 5. Not due to the content or anything but that he is dragging down his team, not getting kills, etc.

Keep him on campaign so you dont have to worry about it.

Quitting and I think killing team mates gets you banned from H5. It should have given you a description and ban time though. if it’s xbox live idk anything about that.

@Borregos- I wasn’t upstairs when it happened so I’m not sure what he was doing that caused the ban, sorry.
@Dirty- He said that it popped up and said he was banned from Halo, so I’m assuming just the matchmaking. Hopefully he will be unbanned soon so he can play again. I have told him to not let his little brother play online anymore. Is there a server for newbie players who, for the lack of a better term- suck, where they won’t get banned? Like I said, the younger one is only 5 and hasn’t learned the controls yet.
Thanks again!

Good thing he didn’t get banned from LIVE, that would’ve sucked.

Unfortunately, there is currently no matchmaking playlist he can play where he can’t be banned. There is forge, custom games, and campaign available though.

Is it possible he betrayed someone? Since he’s new and doesn’t have a lot of games in, a few betrayals in a few games speaks volumes to the banhammer. There aren’t a ton of social playlists yet, as 343i (the developer) is gearing Halo 5 more towards pro player.

There aren’t any noob servers either. I’d recommend warzone instead of arena. At least there are areas of the map to play around on and ease his way into things, although every once in a while in warzone the other team is actually a coordinated team. You’ll know because it’s total domination. My advice is tell him to follow some one else around, shoot at what they shoot at.

I had him read this so he knows what to/not to let his brother play anymore. I’m thinking we should just make the little one his own account so at least he won’t get his brother banned again. Thanks again everyone for the feedback!

New to Halo… play the campaign… a lot… learn the controls and how to play. Halo isn’t for novice gamers at all. It has a higher learning curve. Bans can happen due to quitting, excessive suicides or betraying. If they want to play multiplayer go into FFA first maybe there for they will get some practice and learn the game. Biggest advice is learn the weapons their strengths and weakness and more importantly when and how to use them. BTB would be a good team game to start with once they have learned the game. I wouldn’t quite recommend war zone as novice players may not understand the req system to well.

Play the campaign until he is familiar with the controls. Then put him in social modes and tell him to follow his team and do what they do. He will learn soon enough.

Yes I agree whole heartedly! And don’t listen to the guy who said he’s to young. Halo is the flagship game of the console if he’s new to Xbox and wants to have fun he should stick with free for all so he can experience all of the things that make Halo great without having to worry about trolls tryhards and fuckass adults who care way too much about a video game. I would advise against letting him use a mic unless you want him learning things he shouldn’t say.
I’m glad you’ve made the leap from Sony to Xbox and hope you and your family can enjoy gaming together.
As for the bans, times vary depending on frequency of misconduct but shouldn’t exceed a few hours. Just wait it out and play campaign until your timeout is over.

When I got Halo 5 at launch I was in custom game by myself on how do to this, how do that etc. then I got to multiplayer.

“Halo 5 Arena, a more wretched hive of scum and try-hardery you will not find.”
Seriously, stick to warzone for wholesome Halo fun fit for the whole family.

If he’s five and only has access to his brothers account, I’d say Warzone is probably where he should be; A lot of people who play warzone don’t get that many kills as is (I’ve seen people get one or two kills in the entire match) so he wont stick out like a sore thumb like he would in Arena, where there is more responsibility on each individual player to do well. Also because Warzone will give you an easy kill every now and them due to the chaos, whereas in Arena, its going to be weighted heavily on his own skill, and he might be unable to measure up to the other players who are far older and thus have far better reaction times and cognitive ability.
If he gets his own account though, he could do placement matches for Arena; The game should put him at a low rank so he’ll be playing people who aren’t very good at the game, so he might fit in alright

Don’t get me wrong but I don’t think it’s appropriate to let a 5 year old play Halo on a online multiplayer console.

Well, since he got banned from halo 5 matchmaking and this thread is 13hrs old, the ban should be lifted by now.
Bans usually appear if you betray your teammates (shooting them, even if it’s by accident too often) and/or if you leave a match. Even connection loss counts towards bans. So your son should avoid this. Oh and ofc you can get banned for misbehavioral reasons, but I doubt your 5 yr old son will call everyone bad names over the ingame chat.

EDIT: well, if I think about it, your son maybe shouldn’t use the ingame chat anyways because people tend to get annoyed by youngsters shouting in the microphone and report them for no actual reason.

I have a 6 year old, I don’t have much of an issue with the game content, its really no more violent than a cartoon. However, please keep him off multiplayer, the language and abuse you can get from the idiots on there is not at all suitable.

Firstly, welcome to the Xbox Live community and Halo. You’re gonna have fun. If you’re banned from matching making in Halo 5 Guardians the time varies in length. Bans are issued for consistent betrayal of a fellow team mates, quoting early and behavioral problems. 5 is a bit young to play online in multiplayer but campaign would be a better fit. Hope this helps.
