New to multiplayer

I am fairly new to online multiplayer, is there any way to learn/practice or am I out of luck? Most games (Competitive or Casual) is filled with a bunch of high level players who have been playing for years, and there is no way to find custom games as I get instantly kicked for not knowing the modes. Is there a way to learn? Halo is just extremely unforgiving to new players and it really just makes me want to not play multiplayer.

What game are you referring to here? Halo 5 or MCC?

What game are you referencing, if it is Halo MCC or 5 I’d be happy to help you in-game, although I wouldn’t call myself a professional, but I think I can help you learn some basics

I have recently found my self in a similar boat having not played in years. I got MCC on the X series and jumped in. Nothing really prepares you for Arena type modes like Slayer. It really is a mode that you have to play and suffer through Noob status while learning how actual people move and think. The sheer anxiety of wanting to do well and competitive pride has kept me away from those modes for now. In the mean time, Firefight has helped me get used to movement and weapons as well as map familiarity which to me has proven to be a HUGE contributor to your success in any mode. I’m still a noob my self but the more I learn the maps , the more my skill seems to increase.
I’ve never been good at arena modes other than Griff ball and Capture the Flag which i cant seem to find on MCC.

For me I learned by myself. Playing ranked matches or quick matches back in Halo 2. You can kind of practice playing like fireteam but it’s not the same.

You could probably watch skilled players on Twitch or something, and learn from their gameplay. However, I really think success in any FPS game comes down to map knowledge and weapon practice

He may be talking about Halo 5 since he gets kicked out of customs and the custom game modes.

I recommend watching some vids and honestly just play warzone or PvE modes. I havnt played Halo 5 in a while, been into Halo MCC a lot, I went back to grind out the game for a bit and its very different. I admit it has the most difficult mulitplayer to get good at (i think because it was too competitiv, this made the multiplayera boring for me, I like to just chill with halo most of the time when I solo que). I recommend playing with friends and try more fun game modes to break the feel. Then work your way into strait up slayer. That’s how I got used to Online Reach when I began and I find thats how all Halos are, learn the game and just work on skill later. Halo 5 is like that but more difficult to learn because of the more mechanics it has, but the basics still stand, don’t rush into situations and learn how to strafe and take your time in slayer. Keep your cursor at head level to get the first shot off faster and out pace the guy your 1v1 with shots being made on each other. Thrusters are life saving or unforgiving, depending how you use it. For custom game modes there is a good amount of modes that you would want to do a quick look up to find how to play.

they have a bunch of unified control schemes that are consistent across all the halo mcc games. pick the one that is best for you - helped me a lot.

Try out custom browser PvP, or just do balanced on casual multiplayer probably. If you do expanded you’ll get higher levels and die a lot and make your teammates mad

Campaign on a high difficulty is your best bet to familiarize yourself with the games mechanics. After that, being good comes with a lifetime of experience. I’ve been playing Halo for 20 years and I still come across players better than me.
Just jump in and be prepared to have your -Yoink- whooped until you learn whats what. Halo has always been notorious for it’s learning curve - play until you know how to win,

Agreed. Play through the entire campaign on a few of the games on Heroic or Legendary to get familiar with weapons and equipment. The custom game browser should be launching soon where you cold hos/find a new player match to learn as you go as well. Good luck!

That’s why I just play to have fun. K/D, ranks, all that stuff’s fine for pro players but I just don’t worry about any of that. Never have.

If anyone would like tips I’ve been a top social player since Reach and have had multiple players I used to play with (and beat badly!) go pro. I like helping people get better and making Halo more competitive with higher level play.

What is a top social player? :open_mouth:

You can also load up a custom game on maps for the multiplayer you wanna play n walk around the map to memorize where certain weapons/vehicles/powerups spawn.

OP let me know which game your talking about and I can hit you up with a few youtubers that make excellent videos on how to improve.

When I’m new to a game I like to watch YouTube videos of pros or other content creators and try to soak up some of their knowledge and try to emulate the way they play.

The best advice I have to give is to respect and understand the fact that learning Halo is like learning a new language. The dance of Halo’s multiplayer is much more intricate and complex than many gamers give the series credit for. The more focused time you dedicate to lessening your flaws and analyzing situations, the more you will improve. Here are some channels and videos that have helped me these last 15 or so years, I hope they assist you and anyone else truly committed to the journey.
