New to Halo, what do the gametypes mean?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but could someone explain what the different game types are?

They have names like “Slayer” and “Oddball” but I don’t see any explanation in the game of what these things actually mean…

Could someone give a helping hand and just explain what all of the game types are?

The game types are here: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/intel/playlists But they have no explanation on the website either:

Thanks in advance!!

Slayer is Deathmatch.

Oddball is basically Keep-away. You hold an object to gain points, hold it till you get enough points to win.

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping for an explanation of all the game types though… :stuck_out_tongue:

Slayer ~ Kill the most players to win
Big team ~ Slayer, but with much larger teams
Regicide ~ Free for all, where the leader with the most points is a bounty target worth even more points
King of the hill ~ Control the hill (area) designated for the longest amount of time to win
Dominion ~ Control every base and defend them on the map to win
Capture the flag ~ Grab the enemy flag and return it to your base to win
Oddball ~ Grab the Oddball and wield it for the most time to win
Slayer Pro ~ “Throwback”-esque slayer, without Ordinance and Armor abilities.
SWAT ~ 1-hit headshots, think of a quick-draw
Team Snipers ~ Team Slayer, but with Sniper rifles.

If you need any more assistance or a gaming buddy, PM me @ Wiiwillrockyoup.

I could sit here and explain them all day but it’s not too hard to read the general playlist.

Capture the Flag, self explanatory.

Dominion, base capture and defend game mode.

King of the Hill, self explanatory.

Regicide; Free for All Slayer, person with the most points becomes the King. King gains a large bounty that is visible to all as they get more points, killing the King awards you the bounty in points.

Flood; Zombies, infected kill Humans to make them Zombies. Humans try to survive.

Grifball; two teams of 4 armed with only melee weapons rush to the middle of the map to grab the ‘ball’. The must then plant it on the opponents side of the map to gain a point. Ball resets each capture.

Extraction; Don’t know really anything about this yet haven’t played it.

Don’t do that within minutes of your last post, it’s considered spam.

Thank you both!!

Can’t believe they didn’t put an explanation in the game lol

about half way down that page there is a heading “Gametypes” you can click on each of them for an explanation

To be honest, most are self-explanatory, or appear in other titles and series’, which is why they never give a description. Only ones I could see being confusing are SWAT, Extraction, and Oddball. Good luck mate, hope you have a blast with Halo ^^
