New to Halo, Terrible K/D ratio, need advice

Hi all,

I enjoy the Warzone mode. Huge map, many different ways to make points to win. It’s fun!

However, I suck at this! My ratio is around 0,300 to 0,325…

I feel that everytime I am see an enemy, Im getting killed. I tried to move a lot, jump, etc… Doesnt help. Feel that i am shooting 10 times on the enemy…but they don’t die. And i got killed real quick.

Because I don’t have many frags, i don’t have req points, so that means im stucked with the basic guns too.

I need some help please. Some Halo mp 101 i guess… What may i be doing wrong?

much appreciated

Don’t listen to half the guys here because they’ll tell you to “git gud scrub” probably the first thing to do. Second thing to do is just play, there’s no other way to get better than just playing the game. Everyone starts from somewhere and just gets better as they play.

I agree with DarkLILPLAYA, Most of the skill will come with just successfully playing the game. In fact, this advice could be applied to any game. The harder it seems to get into, the less skill you feel you have, the more you need to play it. Take the little victories well and get over the losses. If I were to add any additional advice, I would say to look for what you’re good at and hone that, but don’t let it be a crutch either. I find that I’m the best at short-range combat, rapid-fire weapons or shotguns, but I try to force myself to use more precision-oriented and explosive weapons so that I won’t be useless when it comes down to using it. Know your strengths, and prepare your weaknesses.

You may want to try playing some Arena first. Everyone starts with the same stuff in arena so you have a better chance and you can still earn req cards to use in Warzone.

Also, one thing that helped me significantly was trying different sensitivity settings. Finding the right setting for you can make a huge difference. Keep playing, you’ll get the hang of it. Try not to worry too much about k/d and just have fun.

if you have a BR use it. i think you get one as a pre order bonus, although the one i got is a tier 5 req thing so getting there would be hard. i would say play campaign on a harder difficulty to learn all the movement. I cannot teach you to play in 7500 characters (buffed from 7000 i notice…) but i can hint you towards teaching yourself. maybe get a friend who is good to play customs with you or play campaign. and if you can’t aim well, just practice in campaign. I thought i was bad not moving from platinum 1 xD

Play campaign and learn the weapons, movement and controls then come back to matchmaking to refine these skills.

^^^ This here.

With what weapons do you play? If you’re facing an enemy with auto weapons it can get frustrating when they headshot you with pistol or BR so you probably should try to get better with the BR. Don’t jump around a lot when you face someone because it will make it easy for him to kill you since you can’t strafe and it also makes it difficult for you to hit him. Try not too mess around too much with the right thumbstick while aiming, but more with the left. Use the right only to for the fine tuning of your shots. If you use the left thumbstick more you’re also strafing at the same time. play passive and use your motion tracker even if it’s kinda useless in this game. Watch some videos on yt on how to get better in halo, they help a lot but be aware that h5 is very different than previous halos.

In all seriousness, consider playing a game that is geared towards casual gamers like us. Games like COD3 BO3, Star Wars Battlefront, BF4, etc.

HALO5 multiplayer was designed for pro gamers and tested by pro gamers (or at least those who have countless free hours to devote perfecting their HALO5 multiplayer gaming skills).

First word of advice. Stop worrying about you kd or kda. Neither mean anything.

This one here. Also, try and find some gamers to run MP with. You will find it easier to win with a team.

I’m pretty much the same, new to Halo and having these problems. Only way to improve is keep playing , some good advice above.

Great advices so far.

Should I focus on headshots or shooting on the chest gives significant damage too ?

I actually think that your kd in objective game modes mean something because of how you’re creating more opportunities to score by dwindling the enemy numbers and creating successful pushes. I will say this, KD may not mean much if you still end up losing your games. I have seen a random with a 3.5 kd and a 1.8 win loss ratio in mcc. Compare that to my friend who had a 2.8 kd in the collection while maintaining a 5.2 win loss ratio.

There is no additional damage that you will give off by shooting at the chest. However, it is an easier target, and the only time you want to worry about headshots is when you break the enemy’s shields. When engaging an enemy, you need to first maintain accuracy within the chest area. As you put in more damage, you want to slowly move up your reticle to the head so you will have no delay in your kill once you break his shields.

Yeah you’ll just get better with practice pal. But I would say try and get a team together, get your Mike if you aren’t in a party and try and communicate. Even though automatics have been buffed precision weapons are still dominant too. Figure out which guns are good for you and see if you can learn where they are on the map. Don’t be afraid to run from a losing battle either

Agreed. K/D & K/D/A are nice and all, but winning is the ultimate goal. You don’t have to be a great shot to help your team. If you know that your skills aren’t where you would like them I would suggest running with your teammates. Literally follow a group of them everywhere and try to assist them, even if you don’t get a kill or a flag capture or whatever you did your part by helping a teammate survive. Best advice, keep playing.

I’d suggest going on FFA to practice your aiming skills with pistol.

Or better yet, try getting some people in custom games and practice.

I’ve always found a metric like kdr a bit superfluous if not misleading in a team- or squad-based game. KDR is a measurement of personal performance, and unless one plays Free-for-all exclusively, the number is going to be skewed depending on the skill (or lack thereof) of your team as well as your opponents.

That being said, the other comments are correct: there’s only one way to get better, and that’s to play more. I go into it knowing for certain I suck…at shooters in general, and Halo in particular. So I ignore kdr and simply go in to have fun and earn some REQ points. If I find I’m getting too frustrated, I just back out of the next match before it begins and cool off, play something else for a while, and then come back to it with a fresh perspective.

Dont worry about it and have fun. Dont let it stress you.

feel free to add me if you wanna practice magnum duels 1v1 or just wanna play in general. Just keep practicing.
