New to Halo...could use some help.

Hi there i’ve just purchased halo and despite not liking the previous games (mainly due to not giving them a chance) i find this 1 fun and refreshing. Ive grown sick of call of duty games over the last few years and usually the only games i play online are the likes of mass effect. Anyway as i said im enjoying halo 4 but because of my complete lack of knowledge of the series i have no clue what im at and i suck big time. Im not sure what sort of loadout i should be setting up and what i should spend my sparta points on so if any of you’s vets of the series could help me and save the me the shame of finishing last every game it would be much appreciated.

Welcome

You can spend your Spartan Points on whatever you want you´ll unlock them all by level up so choose what fits your playstyle and the maps for example: on BTB you should use the DMR or BR instead of the AR. Learn the Maps thats very importent too

yeah all in all, learning by doing

see ya on da bf

Welcome to the battlefield spartan!

The most important part is to remember a few things:

  1. Body shots before head shots. There is no point in lining up a head shot until your opponent’s shields are down, unless you have a sniper rifle/beam rifle. So aim for the body and when their shields break aim for the head.

  2. Stay as a group. A lot of people here on the waypoint forums will tell you there is no point, but this is just false. Strength in numbers!

  3. DON’T SPRINT EVERYWHERE. If you don’t know where your opponents are. Walk. If you’re sprinting and someone finds you who isn’t they will kill you. It takes a moment for your spartan to re-shoulder your weapon.

  4. Take corners wide. A lot of people like to hide with the Boltshot so be prepared to jump and take corners wide.

  5. Your radar is confusing. It took me a while to get used to it. If an dot has an arrow on it depending where the arrow is the enemy is either above you (arrow on top) or below you (arrow on bottom). No one explained this to me in my first 3 weeks of halo 3. Thank god they added this and gave us a useable mini map for Halo 4.

As for load outs and packages you need to figure out what works for you. My brother is awful with precision weapons so he uses automatics. Bolt shot is a popular choice for secondary I’m awful in CQC so I don’t use it. I find dexterity a must in any load out, and regen field is my preferred AA. I would highly suggest going to reddit.com/r/halo to find some players to play with you there. The community is a little less abrasive than this one.

Stick with your teammates. Chances are no matter what you are using (unless it’s a rocket launcher or something like that) you will die if you try to take on more than 1 person by yourself.

Once you learn the maps and grenade throwing angles, you will see yourself getting better. It just takes time.

If you feel like your accuracy is a bit off, try heading into SWAT (that’s what I do anyway) No shields and any headshot equals a kill. It can be kind of frustrating since whoever is host has an advantage, but it’s not insurmountable. I find that it helps target acquisition and accuracy in all gametypes overall.

Pretty much, just enjoy yourself and you will pick up skills as you go along.

Have fun!

That’s because it wasn’t in Halo 3, yet another reason why that game is superior.

Like said above, you can spend your points on anything you want. You will unlock everything once you are SR-50.

Personally I think it would be wise to buy the precision weapons first (the DMR and the Battle Rifle). They are easy to play, very effective as long as you not miss, and both have a zoom, so they are suitable for mid-range-combat. The Assault Rifle is only effective in close-quarters.

The most important thing in my opinion is, you need to get to know the weapons, maps and anything else. If you know how the weapons work, how the enemy-AI is reacting in specific situations, it will get way easier.

Also, take any hint you can get from anyone here ^^

Ahh you’re right. Far too early in the morning for me. I will edit it.

Thanks alot for all the advice everyone, hopefully ill get better over the next few weeks…its early days yet! Hopefully i wont see you’s on the bf (unless your in my team). Thanks for the help.

Best advice I can give - don’t come here too often…

Too many butthurt and bitter ex-MLG wannabes who can’t accept the fact that their precious baby has grown up.

While there are roses amongst the thorns, if you will, the general amount of hate and negativity around here really starts to get old after a while.

Damn ungrateful children…

Other advices: do not quit games, and check out every Kill cam. You can learn from them.

Also, whenever you meet people with way higher ranks, like an SR-130 (which is maximum), don´t be afraid. The rank doesn´t say much about the skill, it does only say, how experienced that player might be (unless he played Spartan Ops Matchmaking only, which is by the way the easiest, fastest and lamest way to rank up).

Also, if you see my name, you should go the other way, or the same way, if you´re in my team ^^ (nearly any achievement in all Halo´s, almost five years of Halo Online Experience and a K/D of over 1.5 in all Halo´s, even one over 2 in Halo 4, speaks for itself, I think).

If you want to play together, add me, Gamertag is the same as here.
But we can´t play together yet, I need money for Xbox Gold first
