Hey guys I’ve been playing Halo since the original back in the ole Xbox days. Now I’ve been trying to get better at Halo 5 and I feel I am no where near as good of a player as I was on the previous games.
So there’s something different that I’m not picking up, what’s different and how do I improve my game and stop dropping negative K.D. ratios.
Calling all help out there.
Hmmmm well I’d start first by running around the maps in customs and learning the call outs (it tells you in the lower left hand corner I believe. Other then that it’s keep practicing, maybe play some warzone or btb, the number of players may allow you to get your aim down, also play around with the acceleration and dead zone settings, find ones that feel comfortable to you.
When you move, move from cover to cover. You don’t wanna constantly be out in the open.
Avoid direct encounters. Stay near corners to thrust behind when shot and focus on team shooting. Always switch to your AR in close quarters and swap out the magnum for a BR/DMR/Carbine/LR whenever you have the chance. Also, spam grenades. If you get a hit marker, spam more grenades.
I feel nooby giving this advice but that’s literally what I do to be successful in H5.
10/10 xbl name.
Best advice I have is to stop sprinting unless you’re dashing through a really open space, keep your weapon up at all times, pick a direction and stick to the edges of the map and rotate around. Or alternatively, pick a part of the map and claim it as your own. As Hot Juicy Pie stated learning the maps and how they flow is a big part of the initial hurdle, but make sure you do it in game, focus on learning where people tend to be and the routes people tend to take.
Other than that focus on your aiming, - h5 aiming is different, much less aim assist but the hit detection is good if not generous. After you’ve got that down pat focus on your own movement while you’re aiming. Standing relatively still is a death sentence in h5, duck weave, learn to incorporate crouches and jumps and thruster into your strafing and keep it unpredictable.
Other than that just keep playing
Idk man, but if you haven’t figure it out yet your shields don’t recharge while sprinting.
Flank!
Don’t be afraid to push the power weapons eventually you’ll get them rockets and make your life easier.
Turn up your volmen and listen for where the shooting is happening.
Pay attention to friendly X. This is your biggest indicator of the enemy if your not in a full team.
Play to the style of the weapon you hold. Autos, sprint the walls, play the radar. Precision… Well I suck with them so I couldn’t tell you.
Use grenades and learn how they bounce. This is the ultimate defense against a good shooter or simply outnumbered.
Here’s some of my gameplay notice there’s not many precision kills in there by me. My point being use the autos! There’s great great shooters in this game and if your like me your not going to be able to outshoot them so don’t. Use cheesy tactics and hog the power weapons/power ups (learn timing and positioning yourself to snag them). One more thing! Don’t underestimate the beginning sprint off. Probably the most important part of a slayer game is he beginning grabs it really is a way to go up 4+ with ease.
I personally had a big issue getting into this specific game. New to xbox but hundreds of hours on PC and PS4. I had to turn down the “acceleration” slider…Personally I like my movement to be linear. I do this on mice on PC too. Once I turned that to the lowest setting and increased overall sensitivity it changed everything. Take a look, hopefully it helps.
Honestly, if you are just not getting into the game you are probably playing with people that have far more practice with the game. I’ve had it since launch and had the same issue, was pretty decent in last few games, but couldn’t figure out this one. a few weeks later just from practicing it seemed to help. it is a new way of playing buy a few tips i can offer.
1)go into forge/customs and just run around the map! learn sight lines, and paths of escape. i used to ALWAYS do this, but as ive gotten better I just jump right in and play super slow and cautiously. I tend to honestly learn the map better just from playing it on xbl. forces me to really pay attention!
- i don’t really ever sprint much. allows me to aim better. i will sprint if i need to escape an issue or quickly get to a power weapon about to spawn.
3)play the campaign and learn how each weapon is used well. in mm i will either run mainly using the pistol, or the AR, almost depending on the map. shorter range maps i can use the ar pretty well. more medium to longer pistol or dmr/br
- just practice and youll get the flow of the game.
I was bad at first too but I learned many important things. I have some few things for you my friend.
- Never rage and try not to panic
- Learn how to use your radar and sprint when you need to (Not when shields are low)
- Crouching can make you not show on radar
- Playing SWAT really helped me practice shooting people’s heads, now like 90% of my kills are headshots
- Know when to run or hide behind cover
- When you can shoot the enemy, do it and don’t throw grenades if you can shoot them (Sometimes situations are different)
- Find the right controller settings
- Just keep practicing and learning

These are just some few of my “tips” that I remember and I hope it helps
Edit: Watch videos of people like Pingy, iSpiteful, Vetoed, FazeKrampy, and some other good Halo players

Thanks Thorolf it was just available lol.
I’ll give those tips a go guys I’ve changed my sensitivity down to 5 use to have it on 7 back on halo3, 4 and reach and also changed the acceleration up to 5.
Guess just need to put some more hours in.
