New system

I just don’t understand I really don’t. I play against high onyx and win almost all my matches ending with a respectable 3.3 but I get put diamond 5. I just don’t understand

Edit: this isn’t a rant or anything like that I’m just hoping someone can explain this to me.

Last year I was a middle of the pack Gold player. Since then I barely even touched Halo 5.
Last season I barely got into Platinum.

Last Saturday I played fine, but not great. I got placed into Diamond this season.
Now I’m a Diamond player all of a sudden.

Bro, I don’t get it either

Something seems strange, I played slayer yesterday to get my season rank, now I usually a high bronze/low silver player, not because of lag, poor teammates or anything except the fact that I’m not very good. After the 10th game I got Gold 6, WHAT, where did that come from?
My highest ever CSR before yesterday was Silver 4.

The new system doesn’t only take into account wins and losses, it looks at individual performance too.

The new skill system is in effect now (TrueSkill2) Here’s the thread if your interested…MatchMaking

The system makes sense in a way. Keep in mind they are ranking you excatly at what used to be your hidden MMO rank. Which for some people it was different than the CSR you saw. For people ranking lower your hidden MMO must have been lower. For the players ranking higher your MMO must have been about the same as your CSR, however previously they used to shave off some CSR points after your placement matches. They aren’t shaving off any points this season.

I mean, I always get a lot of assists, most of the power weapon spawns, top 3 highest damage in the match and in general, I’m a good team player. But I’m no Slayer, don’t get a lot of kills and I often go negative because I’m just not that good to be able to slay.

Maybe I’m better than I thought I was

I don’t play ranked because I suck…lol. I play mainly WZ. When I ranked way back when, I was put at Gold 2. I noticed after the new system was implemented, all of a sudden I’m in games playing against full teams of Onyx, Diamonds etc. getting my butt kicked… hahaha.

Which is what I think it is. But that doesn’t make sense to me. A lot of champ players are getting placed diamond. So now plat players are being matched against champ players grinding back to champ and I’ll tell you it’s not even a match. It’s a joke how badly they get mopped with. How is that true skill? How can that be right?

Which if read but I’ll take my elimination placement. 10/10 wins with a 4.5. Easiest 10 matches or my life half of those were against high onyx. Placed my diamond 6. That’s what doesn’t make sense to me. What it’s suppose to do makes sense and I like that part. I just haven’t seen it in action yet.
in swat I was playing against swat champs I didn’t win all the matches but I went positive in almost all my matches by quite a bit. But I got diamond5.

I wish I had a perfect answer for ya, but I don’t know all the ins and outs unfortunately. There is a research paper on Microsoft’s website going into a lot of the specifics. One overview of note:

> The TrueSkill2 model modifies the classic model in the following ways:
> 1. A player’s latent skill is inferred from their individual statistics such as kill and death counts, in addition to team win/loss.
> 2. When a player quits or drops out in the middle of a game, it is treated as a surrender and their skill is updated as if they lost a game (regardless of actual outcome).
> 3. A player’s skill in a game mode is assumed statistically correlated with their skill in other modes, so that when a player starts a new mode, their skill rating from other modes is borrowed.
> 4. The random walk of player skill is assumed biased toward increasing skill, with larger bias during the first matches a player plays in a game mode.
> 5. When a player is part of a squad, their performance is assumed to be better than normal.

Imo
the new csr system is amazing.
pairing with players of your skill level however, is very poor. i match teams who out tier each of our 4 players. sometimes it will be 2 onyxs and 2 high diamonds vs me (a diamond 1) and 3 plat 6 or usually below.
i love halo, i play the games and read the books… i will continue playing when my hearts in it, but halo 5 makes it hard to do that.

Before it was “team” ranking now some individual performance goes into the ranking. It’s not going to be a smooth transition at first. When ever they make changes to how the ranking works there is going to be some hick ups so to speak. Especially when players had essentially two different CSR ranks and one they couldn’t even see.
