New Species Proposal

I have a brand new species proposal for the Banished or other Covenant Splinter Factions, this is a work in progress idea so it may not be very well polished.
Sangheli name: The Charumgheli (This is a species somewhat related to the Sangheli, yet is very very distant, to humanity it is known as a Dragon). This species isn’t intelegent in the way that most species in the Halo Universe are, they are very animalistic and intelegent in ways of hunting and such.
I got inspiration for this creature from Comodo Dragons, the actual animal I can image looking is basically a scaled up Comodo Dragon as they’re cool.
The Dragon is rather fast, agile and packs a nasty bite, yet it only has that melee weapon.
The Dragon has armour all over it’s body (although shooting at this armour causes damage to a Dragon, it’s fairly little and it’s not the intended way for the player to kill it)
The mouth of a Dragon is not armoured (duh), so when it charges, you can shoot the insides of the mouth as it opens it’s mouth.
To get side by side with the creature, you must either let it charge and dodge or you can shoot the insides of the mouth and it will eventually stop to shield itself from the bullets.
There are many ways to kill this creature, I will now list them:

  • you can just shoot it untill it dies
  • you can shoot it in the mouth when it charges untill it dies
  • (although quite difficult) you can throw a grenade into its open mouth when charging, this is always an instakill (apart from a dynamo, a dynamo stuns it and give you a chance to get close)
  • you can wait for it to charge or stop it from charging or stun it to get close to it, when close, you can (in order):
  • rodeo the Dragon and begin to tear off its armour
  • Shoot, punch or plant a non-dynamo grenade into the exposed area of the Dragon.
    When the Dragon has a rider, it is generally less agressive and will only charge when close or it’s rider/s are killed.
    To kill get the rider/s of the back of a Dragon, you can either:
  • Kill the Rider/s
  • Hyjack the rider/s of the Dragon to rodeo the Dragon, yet the rider/s can hyjack you off too (if they are brutes or sangheli that is, grunts and jackles cannot)

Due to me running out of blog posts for today, Imma edit this post to come up with more ideas inspired by those in replies below this post.
I guess the Dragon could almost stand up (or move it’s posture up) and spit acidic spit at the player, yet I quite liked the idea of a rodeo. Possibly, when the creature does open it’s mouth and such to spit or charge, you can shoot it, yet if you throw a grenade it backs down. With regards to the armour, I could be possible that you could break bit of armour off and those points on the Dragon become weak spots that you can try to shoot out, or possibly the armour idea could be ditched (or made less important) and firing into it’s mouth becomes the intened mechanic. I would say that the most possibilities that could come from the Dragon could be the enimies that ride it that you have to kill independently of the Dragon.

Overall though I feel that this is one of those things that is extremely difficult to pull off, 343i probably don’t even care about ideas for things like species because basically they’ve likely heard thousands already and scrapped even more, so what they’d value is actual sketches and/or lore moreso then just a cool idea.

Edit: fun is more important than anything really, surprised we haven’t seen alien dogs already idk.

So a scaled melee crawler or guta with a hyjack? Interesting.
I think we can do something more interesting tbh.
A straight komodo* deaign feels a little plain so it prob add some arthropod elements.

With the dragon theme I think a chemical plasma breath would work well.
A long wind up and wind down so when it is standing tall mouth agape you can get a few timed shots in before dodging the breath attack.

I’d consider the tail also, perhaps it sweeps you if you get too close to the near and a gap in the scales on its lower back is a weak point to have it rip off its tail but if left alone it regrows it?

Maybe an extra set of limbs to give it some animation variation and as ita a distant relation to elites like say chimps to man retain some kind of mandibles.
I dont know how the komodo being poisonous could be introduced without it being disruptive to the gameplay loop.

I like the idea of them maybe communication with push ups? And perhaps blending in as rocks or other geometry again like they inspired active camo and connecting them to elites a bit more.
Perhaps they have claws of tusks shaped like classic energy swords? Kept in cages like durandels would have been in halo 2 and if you shoot the locks they go berserk and attack both covies and unsc?
Maybe the have a collar like aperatus to keep them obedient and a skill shot can blow it off?

Theres potential for sure but a standard hunter melee charge lizard sounds a little bit vanilla to me. If they were to do that I’d rather see dobermangators or blind wolves just because they were cut from early games and seem visually more unique. Cool idea though just think it needs to be iterated on before it is sandbox worthy.
