New Spartan/Elite customization options. The problem and possible solutions.

The problems as i’ve seen.

If you like some skins but hate most others you cannot pick and choose what is displayed.
The old armors do not fit the new base model, they seem to ‘float’ on the body which reveals model tearing when viewed at the right angle.
Old details have been removed and new details have been added due to the new base models, most noticeable around the elite spine area (the new base model clashes with the design the old ones had around the revealed back area) and the elbows of the elites, for some reason they have donut elbows now.
Colored skinsuits/Raven ODST armor doesnt mesh well with old armors at all
Turning off the new customization skins does not turn them off in Halo 3 (atleast for the moment)

Possible solutions to the problem that would not remove content.
Ability to toggle on/off specific season content so you can enjoy having your spartan the way you want without seeing what you don’t like.
Replace the current customization with something akin to the core system from Infinite. This allows for more body types, less potential model tearing and more doors being opened up for new season content in every game (ODST, S3, H4 base models)

I don’t really agree with either solution. I can sympathize for a legacy toggle to experience Halo 3 visually as it was, but a selective toggle is silly. What’s it matter if someone else has an ugly armor combination? Even among the base Halo 3 armors there were dumb combinations but that doesn’t warrant a toggle.

As for the implementation of cores, no. Cores in Infinite are the most restrictive part of the game. In the MCC there are billions of possible armor combinations and cores would only serve to lower that number.

100% agreed. Cores are a bad idea. Also yeah, who cares about ugly armor combos? Have we really hit the point as gamers where seeing someone else wear ugly armor ruins the entire game for you?! If so, you aren’t a gamer. Gamers take the good with the bad.

It’s the steady erosion of the games art style, mashing them together with a hammer only makes it worse. Halo 3 came out in 2007 the new cosmetics only made it look older, Mirage being the only real exception to this. Bringing back some cohesion to it might help it not be so obvious & just outright garish.

I take the good with the bad just fine, its just frustrating when things are bolted on a decade after the fact without any care for how the original looked.
We still get model tearing on the old armor pieces for the H3 Spartan & Elites too, which is probably what bothers me the most honestly. Not to mention there’s weird quirks with the body suits, like the elites having donuts on their elbows.

Do you actually play MCC? It feels like you have to be a 343 intern / employee to actually suggest this.

What you’re describing arent problems, they are preferences. We dont need to implement a previously-failed system in some half-hearted attempt to appeal your preferences.

Was map veto a problem or someones preference that got added to the game. What about the lack of seasonal cosmetics? I think its fine to talk about things that I think could improve some newer changes that come off more haphazard, I am not saying this has to be in the game.

I’m curious how you think 343 could implement this core system that wouldnt be an abject failure.

To be honest the base model replacement/hackjob they did to the original armors was an abject failure already so I would encourage them to keep swinging at it until they succeed. If you got a better idea on smoothing out the cosmetics they added I would hear you out.

How about just updating the models? We don’t need armor cores, just need people working on smoothing out the models for the armor, problem solved.

Cores are a big NO NO and should stay out of MCC. Period.

I dont believe 343 would pay an artist to update every armor piece to actually fit these new base models.

I find it more believable 343 would hire an artist to clean up the armors than them to implement the highly disliked core system.

Well people said that about a ton of other features 343 added.
Can’t forget what they spent the first 3 years of Infinites development on either.

They wouldn’t even need to clean up the base armor itself, H2A’s Campaign Mark VI is literally the model they should be using with New Visuals enabled:

all they need to do is update the much smaller permutations to match the quality of the new Base, and even then, both Mark V and ODST are already done since the former could be replaced with the CEA/Fireteam Raven set, and the Latter can use upscaled Halo 3: ODST Armor pieces from 2009.

Then they couldnt change the identity of Halo by forcing all the 343 bull onto the old games.
