New spartan ability ideas

I was thinking about what some new abilities could be and one idea I thought of was ‘Horn’.
When activated it could emit a loud horn type sound that frightens and confuses the enemy. This could be interesting and could add alot to the gameplay and would be very strategic.
For example you could hide behind a corner and when someone runs past you activate your horn AA which will scare them out of their wits and as they’re turing around in panic trying to find the source of the noise you could get behind them and assassiante them… all thanks to the Horn. Maybe steam or something could issue out of the joints in the armor as you’re honking the Horn. Anyway it could be a good way to distract enemies.

Another good idea I thought of for a new spartan ability is “Hack”.
This allows you to hack into the armor of someone on the other team and gain complete control of their actions for a short time. While you have control over them you could make them commit suicide by blowing themselves up or jumping off the map etc causing them to lose a point or you could make them betray their own teammates.
This ability would be balanced as the person who is doing the hacking would remain stationary in their own armor and left vulnerable while they are controlling an enemy. I was thinking the Hack would last for only 10 seconds and be limited to perhaps only 5 Hacks available per match so it’s not abused too much.

Another idea is “Undercover”, this gives you the ability to change the color of your spartan to the same color as your enemy.
For example playing red vs blue… if you’re red then you activate the Undercover ability making your spartan appear blue so that you can trick the other team into thinking you are a friendly. By going Undercover you will infiltrate your enemy team, gain their trust, learn from them, become one of them as you bring them down from the inside.Obviously for balance purposes the color change will only be temporary.

Next one is “Play Dead”, when activated your spartan will fall to the ground and appear as a regular dead body.
For example, as an enemy is running along minding his own business and runs straight past you thinking you are just another body on the ground you will deactivate the ability causing you to be able to jump back to life and kill him…
You would need to make sure that no enemy actually sees you activate the ability otherwise they’ll kill you while you’re down because they’ll know you’re just feigning.
Another good example of how this would be useful is if you’re in the middle of a fight with someone you could activate the “play dead” ability making them think they won the battle only for you to surprisingly jump back up and kill him…

I suggest mini-titles for each new ability for easier reading.

All of these seem to “force” animation onto players characters which isn’t wanted in most cases. For AI it could work.

These abilities are way too game altering. Having the ability to control someone else’s spartan or switch team colors requires no skill and would be a nuisance to play against. It completely throws out the competitive and strategic roots of Halo and seems like more of a gimmick than anything else. The only way I could see these abilities possibly working is maybe in some custom games.

THIS IS A MASTER CLASS IN 3 BILLY GOATING

These are pretty good ideas on paper, but in Multiplayer it would be extremely broken

The “Horn” ability sounds more like a nuisance that could be exploited for easy, probably undeserved kills. Plus, not totally reliable. You can never predict your enemy’s movement, so that “Horn” could either give you a free assassination, or it could be your downfall, a gamble I’d rather not take.

That “Hack” ability being more so. Easily the worst idea of the bunch. There is nothing fun in control being taken away from you and being forced to watch as “you” shoot and kill your teammates, while at absolutely no prejudice. The fact that your own Spartan is left wide open while using the ability is not enough of a counter to this broken ability. It simply has no place within Halo. The idea may be creative, but doesn’t mean it’s automatically good.

Your “Undercover” ability would be my favorite, but I’d still be against its inclusion. Reason being that it can be used to easily trick your opponent and get easy kills, like an assassination. I would never trust my teammates anymore. Even if it’s handled like the Spy’s Disguise Kit (from Team Fortress 2), where you can’t change weapons, attack, or board vehicles without your disguise wearing off, it’s still an exploitative ability. And, unlike TF2, Halo has much fewer counters. Spy-checking in TF2 has more than just the Pyro mindlessly shooting flames anywhere. Spies retain their collision, meaning they won’t phase through enemies like they can with allies. Spies who use the Disguise Kit can often been seen by enemies as one of their teammates with their melee weapon out. That, alone, is a sign of a Spy.
In Halo, there are no classes, therefore, no Pyro. In Halo, everyone has collision with one another, allies or not. In Halo, whatever weapon you have, active or not, doesn’t matter.
I could go on, but these examples should suffice.

Finally your “Play Dead” ability… it’s probably the most stupid and Yamcha thing of the bunch, although the easiest to counter. Another rather annoying deception ability. It’s pretty much paying extra unnecessary attention. Unless the enemy’s body retains collision and remains fully visible in the motion tracker, then it’s probably fine.
What isn’t fine is the fact that you’re playing as a super-soldier, the best of the best. You should be helping your team in any way, be escorting them or helping with flanking… instead, you’re playing dead, like a coward, waiting for your opponent to dismiss your dead body so you can just stab him in the back.

Spartan abilities might be cool for custom game inclusion but beyond that I don’t want to see them ever return.
