It seems to me that this SAW gun is a replacement for the SMG. It would be kinda weird to put a weapon meant for dual wielding in a game without it. I think they needed another fast firing low accuracy weapon and created this awesome gun. What do you think?
The SAW LMG is an SMG?
I don’t think you quite get what the SAW is intended to do and gravely exaggerate the power of the SMG’s of Halos past.
Dual SMG’s equate to a single AR. Dual AR’s equate to a SAW.
According to the bulletin, the SAW is an ordinance drop weapon. This means that it is going to be regarded as a power weapon. The SAW easily trumps the SMG of past Halo titles in power and is no way a replacement for the SMG.
I mean just a weapon to fill the gap, I see that it is more powerful and is definitely not the same.
The SMG alone wouldn’t be able to do enough damage to anyone. That’s why the SAW came a long! And I’m happy with that! 
EDIT: But I could be wrong! Because that’s not all of the weapons to be revealed! There could be more UNSC weapons, Covenant weapons, Forerunner weapons and Brute weapons (possibly) :3
From what I’ve heard they are bringing in the MA5k for Halo 4, this would more than likely be the equivalent of a SMG, the LMG fills a different roll.

I’m not sure what to make of it yet. Only way to know for sure is to try it myself. Sounds like a redundant weapon right now, though. 
This is the level of automatic bullet firing guns in general:
SMG - Pistol Ammo, fires fast
AR - Rifle ammo, fires fast
MG (in this case SAW) - High caliber rounds, big heavy that usually must be set up, fires fast
The SAW is actually quite the opposite of the SMG, but i do get where you’re coming from on this. It fires very fast and chews up lots of ammo, plus is mobile enough to be carried around at normal speed. I think im going to like this weapon…

Ummmm… In case you aren’t aware, 343 just released a video confirming ALL the UNSC weapons in halo 4… its not there and they arent adding any new weapons at this stage…

It’s all over the forum, it looks like the AR and I think it is referred to as the Assault Carbine but it seems to be an SMG replacement.

Assault Carbine was a placeholder name for the Storm Rifle.

If you have a look on IGN there is a confirmed list with Assault Carbine (MA5k) on it, but no picture. Apparently it was confirmed on Game Informer.
I see what you mean OP.
Here we see a fast firing, high ammo gun that tears people up quick. It’s similar.
I think it seemed more accurate though. I have such a hard time seeing reticules now.

So if the IGN Weapons list is right, what is to make of this weapon? Is it the Ma5k Assault Carbine or Have IGN gotten things mixed up?
If it is the Ma5k, then it will probably fill an SMG like role as I was saying.
