So in the brief clip we saw of a “BR Slayer” or something similar to it, we could see that the scoring was very different. How do you feel about this? Should slayer matches be kept to 1 point per kill, nothing else? Or should a new system fall into place? If so, how should it be? Like (dare I say) CoD, or something different?
I’ve talked about this many times bro. The original Slayer system had NOTHING wrong, and didn’t need to change. Who even buys a game for it’s scoring system anyways?
“OMG guys check it out Halo has a cooler scoring system!!”
Like really, what made them think of changing it?
Good point. I’m fine with the old way… the video clearly had a different system… but it’s still in the early stages, so maybe it’ll change.
Hopefully.
It’s only a few hours old and it (sort of) discusses the issue. I’m still waiting for a cogent response to my post in there, which perhaps counters my argument in a way I’m willing to consider*, so by all means… shoot.
*by this I mean, something more substantial than the simplistic view that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Although I hate to join the “OMG HALO IS BECOMING COD MW4 FUTURE WARFARE COS IT HAS SPRINT, CUSTOM LOADOUTS, PERKS AND A PROGRESSION SYSTEM LIKE COD!” crowd, it seems the system is a lot like the one found in CoD, as it’s clear the kill we saw showing a user headshotting with a BR was judged on two things, the headshot and the kill itself. In Call of Duty you’re given points similar to this, although I think only the kill counts for the game’s score and anything else is added as experience, but I’m not sure that’s how it works in Halo 4.
I’m pretty sure they said something about changing some things to test with the HUD elements.

That’s what I thought. I remember reading somewhere saying that people should disregard the scores in the preview video, as it was just a test of something.
EDIT: Ah, we are correct. In March 7th’s Bulletin, it’s explained in zNiTeY’s question.
> In the new footage we see the game type set as Slayer yet the score goes up not by individual kills but by points. Is this a custom game? A new Slayer variant? Or is this how the default Slayer scoring is going to be? –zNiTeY

> The footage of MP you saw is taken from our internal Network test build and actually features a mashup of various game styles and UI elements, so don’t spend too much time trying to figure out what’s happening in it, because outside of surface elements, it’s not going to teach you a lot about any particular game mode. However, our new implementation of Slayer will score differently than the traditional 0-50 method of yore, and is one of 100 things we’ll share with you more deeply in the coming months.
Alright here’s the Quote:
