new rocket launcher vs. SPNKr launcher

Who out there prefers the new rocket launcher? I personally miss the SPNKr launcher in regular slayer, and find it odd they offer it in Warzone and BTB (one map) but nowhere else. They seem to play the same but i will always prefer the older launcher, but I’m wondering what y’all think

They are identical in terms of game play but are just visually different and have different animations.

The new launcher’s name is the Pilum, if anyone’s interested.

I prefer the old classic one.

SPNKR EX is my favorite variant so far

Prime is nice but the secondary explosions increase the blast radius on the EX significantly

I like them both but the SPNKR EM is definitely my favorite

Funny…the one everyone is called the “new” one is the SPNKr…because it got added to the game.

I hate the one that shipped with H5. Not visually appealing at all. SPNKr is Halo’s rocket.

The SPNKr is way more iconic! Hopefully we can get a Plasma Rifle to replace the Storm Rifle next!

Not entirely true. Spnkr can fire both barrels in quicker succession at the cost of a slower reload time. Whereas Pilum takes a little longet to fire a second shot, but reloads faster.

SPNKr sounds better; and doesn’t seem to delay on the trigger press like the new model does. SPNKr also shoots faster.

Dont believe me? Test it in Forge.

I feel like they are pretty much similar and the preference is purely aesthetic. And since this particular community likes to reject anything new just on principle, I would assume most people would prefer the SPNKR.

BTW, when did it start being called the “Spanker,” I was always under the impression it was called the “Splunker.” Maybe that was just my Halo circles.

Spanker started during Halo: CE; when the forums were still covered in purple. Way before your time.

I prefer Spanker because it has a very distinctive physical appearance. The new Pilum thingy is relatively generic; If you removed the UNSC logo from it, you could probably port it into almost any other modern shooter without anybody noticing a difference.

One of the things I like about Halo is that we have lots of weird and exotic looking guns and vehicles. Stuff like Needlers, Energy Swords, Banshees, Warthogs, and so on are vastly different than what you see in other games. The Pilum launcher, however, is not. :\

well said.

the SPNKr has always been called “spanker”, but i am now aware people call it the spunker also. i guess you’d have to ask someone from original bungie staff to clarify. maybe someone can dig up some old article.

the new rocket launcher looks straight out of CoD to me, which is why i don’t like it as much. Yes it reloads faster, but it is not very unique in any way. I wish they would just get rid of the Pilum and go back to the SPNkr (ideally i would say they should just update it instead of just making it seem exactly the same as its always been). However halo “lore” apparently claims that the SPNKr is “outdated” or something of that nature.

To me it would be like if they changed the sniper altogether. Taking a power weapon that is iconic to the series and changing it is very odd. I want innovation and change, but that doesnt mean you can’t keep updating something that isn’t broken. The Beam Rifle was the new sniper in halo 2 but it never replaced the original sniper, it just was the covenant version. To say the old rocket launcher is outdated would mean the sniper should be too, and other weapons for that matter. i just don’t understand the need to change the rocket launcher.

A good case study for my argument could be the Storm Rifle. As we know, the classic Plasma Rifle was taken out of service in exchange for the Storm. And yet, I personally haven’t seen nearly as many complaints about the SR as the Pilum. There are certainly some requests for re-adding the PR as a Req in Warzone (some of which were made by me), but I have seen very little hate for the SR (besides a few people who think it’s OP).

The reason for this, I would think, is because the Storm Rifle still manages to look unique and “Halo-ish” even though it’s vastly different than the vintage Plasma Rifle. If 343 had created a unique replacement for the Spanker, then I think the number of complaints about it would have been far fewer.

I don’t like the pilum launcher.
Sounds strange.
Pilum

SPNKR

In terms of basic, I prefer the Spnker. Fires faster reloads slower. Reloading isn’t a problem though. But in terms a freaken sheer awesomeness, the High Five.
