> I bet that all of you guys that are complaining about the ranking system, are the same people that don’t have a mic to communicate with your teammates. This ranking system should encourage you guys to find people that are willing to create a fireteam with people you meet online so you can win games and get your ranks up
didn’t every Xbox come with a mic? And I thought we were playing Halo, not find-a-friend. Maybe I’m wrong on both.
I’ve been disappointed by the ranking system as well. Halo 2 had it perfect. The level system is much better. Now you cannot go down if you tier up into a new tier which is not good. With the level system you can be matched more with your actual skill level. I have been kind of disappointed with what halo has become since the good ol’ days. Lack of variation on maps, bad ranking system, very few gameplay modes. We can only hope 343 tries to make it right. God bless

> The whole ranking system is a mess, they should had used the halo reach ranking system
Agreed. Check out this scenario from last night…
My friend and I both needed 8 SWAT matches to achieve a CSR
We both played 8 SWAT matches together
I finished #1 on my team all 8 matches and with a better K/D ratio than my friend 6 out of 8 of the matches
I achieve Platinum rank
My friend achieves Diamond rank
Explain how in the hell that works lol. The system is so majorly flawed. The notion that you can’t ever be dropped from Diamond to Platinum or Platinum to Gold is also -Yoink-. People will not be evenly matched up because of this.
I don’t mind the new ranking system, aside that even if I have a great game, (18-8; or whatever) and am really the MVP for my fire team, I still lose rank! It’s really frustrating and demotivates me to play Halo. I realize it’s very difficult to make the “perfect system”, however, when I have one bad game, or, if my individual character did well but my fire team did horrible, I shouldn’t lose rank for it. I know 343i has a lot on their plate, however, I do think that this issue should be addressed soon.
Considering that “teams” are a temporary construct, assembled by the matchmaking system, with no persistent game-over-game rank, it seems a little dysfunctional that the team outcome effects the individual rank. When its the individual who holds the rank game-over-game, and the team is disbanded.
I think that specifically for slayer based games, some ranking value should be placed on individual performance. Not all, but some. Getting kills, getting assists, preventing deaths is literally how to score points and win a slayer game. This is something you can actually quantify in player stats.

> Why would we go back to Halo 3 Ranking system? It was broken completely, ESPECIALLY after playing a few hundred games. You would get stuck at a rank, we’ll say 45, play 10 matches, dominate the other team, get the highest score on your team and never go up. The next game, you lose 49-50, go 20-4 on your team and you lose a rank. That’s BS and I can’t believe people want that back.

> This tier system is where the world has been for the last 5 years. Halo caught up to it and MS’s TrueSkill ranking is a beautiful thing. It makes teams FAIRLY even. If you have someone go 3 - 20, they may have had a rough game or they were letting a friend play, can’t rule that out.
Halo 3 system was not broken, if you got stuck in a level you simply were not good enough to level up, also you could have played in lone wolves or team doubles and that definetley takes the team factor away.
I’m not saying it was perfect, but 343i can make a few adjustments. I agree with the part that the team factor can make you lvl down even if you’re a great player, but maybe with a few adjustments like giving priority to the kill ratio instead of the w/l ratio.

I understand this. However, I wouldn’t want to drop from one tier to another. I’m not a “perfect” Halo player; I have bad games. So, if I have a bad day of games, I don’t want to be kicked down from Platinum to Gold. That’s not fair to me. Now, if I’m just horrible for mutiple games in a row, then, maybe…but still. I think if they just fixed the ranking by not punishing good players on losing teams, we’d all have better ranks.
Also, if you could drop down to Iron from Sliver, I feel like then you’d have the problem of people who are really good at the game getting bored and do what they did in Halo 2.

This is an excellent point… They create a ranking system that emphasizes team play – and then remove the post-game lobby where you can actually PARTY UP.

> I have had so many games where I go 20 and 10, or something along those lines and still lose skill! This is due to all of my other team members going horribly negative. They need to revamp the system fast because so many players are in the wrong tier. If somone goes 2 and 17 they are not Diamond, and I shouldn’t suffer for their poor play!
Do you win or lose the games you’re describing above?

So I think the answer would be to add an option to customize your matchmaking experience. Obviously the game would have much more problems if they automatically prioritized narrow ranking over speed of matchmaking and everybody would be QQ. Having an option to set your own experience would be preferred. If you don’t mind waiting and want to be matched better according to your skill then set the option, sit back and wait. I think I remember Halo 3 had options to prioritize your matchmaking.
I think I will make a separate thread to see if we can gain enough support for it so 343 will take notice.

> Is everyone forgetting that Reach had BPR? Battle Proficiency Rating? BPR was what determined who you played against. 100 being the highest. And it takes a lot of things into account; KD ratio, W/L ratio, betrayals, quits, etc. And it was awesome. It was never visible in game and you had to find it here on Halo Waypoint. Seriously people? Go to Service Record - Halo: Reach, then click on “More Stats” or something like that to view it. I loved Reach’s system. I ranked up with time/experience (with what I thought was cool military ranks) - showing how much I put into the game, but then my BPR went up or down based on my actual performance in Matchmaking. The way it should be.
BPR was always broken because it wasn’t instituted until about two years after the game was already released… so, people were playing the game in a certain way for two years, only to find out that the ranking system penalized that style of play and it was too late to statistically reverse the results.
If it had been implemented clean using statistics going forward, it might have been useful, but incorporating prior stats was just a fatal mistake. That’s why people ignored it – and that’s why, as you say, nobody remembers it.
I agree, they need to make a system where if you go very positive and do well but you still lose due to a poor team you don’t go down. However, if they do that the same needs to apply for the other end. If you suck and you win the game, you don’t go up. But in the end halo is a team based game so if the team wins you win, if the team loses you lose.

But you see you nailed it right on the head, it works perfectly “if it had been implemented” right away with clean stats, yes? I’d have to say most people probably didn’t know about it because it wasn’t really advertised in game, I stumbled onto it by accident way back when. But when it first came out, I had a BPR of about 56, and that fueled me to play better and get it up, it’s currently 81 I believe. So I know personally that it works and it works well. Just get a good KD, assist, win, don’t betray, don’t quit, and you’re ranking system goes up for good QUALITY play, and it goes down if you play poorly, the way a rating system should be, right?

This. Skilled based matchmaking requires skill to match players. A cr rank in reach meant nothing.

what the no-life rank system of reach? play more get more rank, never go down ? pathetic rank system.
it should be more like Halo 2 ranking system, skil based were you can go up and down a rank. none of this happy teletubbie reach, go play COD if you love that so much
