New ranking system needed - Not challenging enough

I’m an Onyx in FFA, and from what I can tell, it’s the highest rank you can get, apart from Champion which I believe is the top 200 in the playlist, which I’ll never play enough to achieve.

I was ranked Onyx after my unranked matches, and I don’t really feel like I’m against quality players. At least half of the players in an FFA game are just spraying with AR, and I own them easily with my pistol.

I’m a good player, but I wouldn’t say I’d done enough to obtain such a high rank.

I’d personally prefer a ranking system similar to Halo 3.

I want a visible 1-50 ranking system please. And I’d prefer the symbols to be similar to Halo 2’s.

On Halo 3 I was 47 in Lone Wolves, and that was my highest rank. 44 in Swat. 40 in TS.

So I’m good, but not THAT good.

If you are that good, go pro.

I’m way above the average player, but not pro.

That’s why I’m saying, the ranking system needs to be changed.

The 1-50 ranking system in H2/3 was much better.

They just need to iron out the flaws in the placement system atm - so far ive seen a tonne of people placing onyx in FFA and SWAT, when in other playlists they are gold scrubs.

Just wait till the game can better identify CSR and scale wins and losses a little better… its the first ranked season bro just wait it out for the reset

If your Onyx the idea now is to increase your CSR in Onyx to get as high as possible. Halo 3’s ranking system was boring a grindy it takes an age to rank up where you should be before you start playing players at your skill level. I hate to break it to you but just because you are Onyx doesn’t mean you can’t improve if you look at your CSR then right now probably you are equivalent to perhaps what was about level 40 in Halo 3 etc.

The new ranking system doesn’t give me that same feeling of satisfaction though.

Halo 3 had it right. You get a skilled based rank between 1-50 in each ranked playlists, and you also had EXP on the side, and would get an overall rank.

However, you also needed to hit a high rank in at least one playlists before hitting the high overall rank.

So you could have like 5000 exp, but you wouldn’t get general rank until you were a 50 in at least one playlist. You follow me?

That was WAAAAY better. It satisfied casuals who just wanted 1337 armour, and also people who wanted their 50.

MAIN POINT THO…

You had to be good to get to the higher ranks!!! On Halo 5, the average player seems to be able to get to Diamond or maybe even Onyx, which shouldn’t be.

I can say the same thing about the CSR ranking for H5. I feel that H5 is much more grindy and takes an age to rank up in Onyx. I enjoyed the 1-50 much more than the current ranking system. Cool, I played 10 games in all the playlists and I’m in Onyx for all of them except Breakout. I will never get to the top Champion rank, so why put the effort in getting to a higher CSR in Onyx for it to be reset in a month?

could not agree more.
this system is alright, but lackluster. we need 1-50 in addition to this system.

Your title is misleading. This post is just about reinventing Halo 3 ranking system. There have been posts for that before, please use the searchbox. What’s your gametag? I’d like to see if this game isn’t challenging enough for you.

Yes, exactly what i think too.

The ranking system is a little “iffy”. I’m a good player, but had some bad luck with this game. I didn’t understand the mechanics or the maps, I had TERRIBLE teams, and so on. My first rank was platinum because of that; but when I got used to it, I shot up to diamond in less than three days of casual playing. I expect to be in Onyx in a week or so. I say this in agreement to you. It is rather easy to rank up, if you can find a good team. I just hate how it is so team focused. Most people play solo, and this system is unfair to them. Some of the better players will never be ranked fairly due to their team sucking all the time. Most ALL of my losses were caused by me being left solo or 2v4. This ruined my K/D and W/L ratios. I wish they would make a system that would reward players for being awesome, and not for winning. If the MVP for a mach is on the losing team, he/she automatically loses stats. SUCKS!!!

It’s the first month. If you get placed on the first day then there was a chance you’d make it into onyx cuz noone else was filling those ranks.

I’m diamond and platinum yet when I play I demolish people unless they team up on me or I get spawn killed in swat.

What confuses me about the ranking system is that I feel like it may randomly be assigning folks ranks at times. For my placement matches into Team Arena I won every game and placed Onyx. I was able to do this easily as I ran in a team of 4. However, one of my teammates, who had played all his placement games as well with me and a had also finished top of the list(even though that is said to be irrelevant) was placed Platinum.

Platinum rank for my friend for all the same games that placed me Onyx. That is something that needs to be addressed.

To help you better understanding the Ranking system in Halo 5: Guardians…

Microsoft’s TrueSkill system is still the backbone of all Xbox games including Halo 5: Guardians’ matchmaking. A player’s TrueSkill level going into a new game brings with it a provisional rating based on their overall matchmaking history on Xbox Live; though, under the new game their standard deviation will be wide which means the initial performances will be quite impactful and is also the reason why 10 matches are necessary before assigning someone a Competitive Skill Rank (CSR) for a playlist.

The placement matches that a player plays to earn their CSR within Arena is measuring their individual performance against all the other individuals within the match; teammates included. The CSRs use Microsoft’s TrueSkill system to determine whether or not a player is performing above or below expectations according to the TrueSkill levels of their opponents and teammates. Prior to earning a playlist CSR the matchmaking system depends solely on a player’s TrueSkill level to find relatively fair opponents.

Once a player is given a divisional rank for a particular playlist based on their “placement” performances in relation to the TrueSkill levels they competed against and with then moving up and down the tiers within the division they got placed into (or numerical number within Onyx) is based solely on match outcomes (wins verse losses); in other words, within team-based game types their CSRs are no longer influenced by the individual performance they put up, but instead by the team’s performance. If a player is able to win consistently enough they can earn the ability to go up to the next divisional rank, but they can never lose enough to drop below the divisional rank they’re in (this is meant to prevent people from trying to delevel).

All in all, Microsoft’s TrueSkill system is the main component factoring into CSRs and the matchmaking search system; although, the playlist CSRs do provide the matchmaking system further refinement in trying to locate more ideal match-ups by being game type specific. The individual performances during the placement stage and the ability to win matches after receiving a CSR seem to be the means by which most try to understand CSRs, but people need to understand that there’s much more factoring into it then just those two things on the surface. Also, the more experience a player puts into the game and playlist the more reliable and accurate their TrueSkill and CSR should become.

What’s your real gamertag? Because I cannot seem to see your “Onyx” on here as this profile has you never played the game.

I just looked up your service record. You have not even played 5 minutes of the game.

I would have liked to have seen this guys (OP) Stats, have a look at the opposition he played against and how well he did, Always found it interesting to see how the top players fair amongst themselves

But his Service record is blank !..

Come on Son, reveal yourself, lets see how powerful you really are, this is the first post in any FPS game where a player has said such things that I’ve seen.

Should even do a live stream, watch you cream the enemy, it’s always a pleasure to watch talent, dont think there are many players here that would come out and say what you have, you got balls of Iron mate…

LOL, exactly… hahahahaha… A man cant come round ere make statements like you have with nothing to back it up,

Well i played my 10 games of Shotty Snipers, and i played pretty horribly in just about all 10… (still trying to get used to it after spending years off of halo) and somehow i was put into the Diamond tier… Makes no sense to me.

I dont think the rank system is bad but the older rank system is still Better.
