New Radar Changes Question

The CU stated that the radar update will change its effective range to 25m, but it will also only register unsilenced weapon use and spartan ability use. Does this mean that the radar will no longer be able to pick up motion (that isn’t sprint) from other spartans?

Sprint will count as part of the abilities

I know, what I meant was “will the base player speed (not sprint)” be picked up by the radar?

Guess I misunderstood you. That’s something I believe everyone’s been trying to figure out as 343 never really elaborated on if base speed would show or not. Guess we’ll have to wait and see till someone else knows.

From what I interpreted from the post, the motion detector would only detect weapons fire (with the exception of silenced weapons) and spartan abilities, that is sprint, ground pound and assumedly thruster moves as well.
Basically, unless you’re sprinting or shooting, you’re invisible on the motion detector.

I hope they just worded it wrong, because that sounds awful.

As do I

As do I.

The update phrases it like this:

Only two types of player activities will appear on the sensor:

  • A (non-silenced) weapon being fired - *A Spartan ability being used (Sprint, Spartan Charge, Ground Pound, Stabilize and Clamber)*Additionally, the functional range has been increased from 18m to 25m.

From what it said it would pick up sprint and other spartan abilities including non silenced weapons, and with my guess walking is not non detected.

So they’re using Call of Duty’s radar now?

It might as well not be in the game if that’s what they’re going to do to it.

Nope… doesn’t sound like it.

Seconded. If the motion tracker can’t pick up players running at base speed (not sprinting), then there is no more point to crouch, and it defeats the purpose of increasing the motion tracker range to 25m.

I don’t why they didn’t just keep the motion tracker the way it was from Halo 2 to Halo 4. It worked perfectly in those games and all in between. But no; they nerf the range down to a pathetic 18 meters making it useless in the new sandbox, and they take more than a year to even address it.

343 Industries needs to stop listening to the so-called “pros” and the vocal minority who want the motion tracker removed. The motion tracker has always been in Halo, except in more competitive game modes like SWAT and Halo 3’s MLG playlist, and it has always had a range of 25 meters… and the only circumstances under which it could detect enemies were if they were crouch-walking. That’s the way it should always be, and that’s how it should’ve stayed.

They could have clarified that but if it is only shooting and SA its going to be a campers wet dream.

A motion tracker that doesn’t track motion isn’t much of a motion tracker.

Wait I’ve actually have seen a radar that only picks up shooting before but not player movement. coughCoD’sMinimapUAVcough

Why not put it back at 25m like it was in the past and call it a day? The wheel isn’t broken. It doesn’t need repair, you don’t need to reinvent it.

IKR? Like I said before, trying to fix what isn’t broken has become 343 Industries main MO.

They really need to stop listening to these vocal minorities, particularly those who think the motion tracker should be removed completely. There were playlists in previous games- like the MLG playlist in Halo 3- where the motion tracker was disabled, and then of course there have been other game modes like Slayer Pro.

They should just make separate playlists without motion trackers featuring those kinds of game modes, not remove the tracker from the game entirely… nor should they nerf it into the ground as they’ve done with Halo 5 thus far.

Your BMS (like walking) will not be detected on your radar. Essentially, you don’t need to crouch walk to stay off of radar when moving.

No one in the competitive community (team beyond) has ever asked for the entire removal of motion tracker for the game. We’ve simply asked for a pro playlist that disables radar and leaves every other playlist on their own, without this idea of “universal settings.”

A few people on the forum lately have been asking for the entire removal of the motion tracker from game. The appear whenever the topic of the abysmal motion tracker range in Halo 5 is brought up… and for some reason 343 Industries is listening to this minority, even when those threads are filled with 100x as many posts from people asking for the tracker range to simply be returned to 25 meters.

How is 343 listening to this minority? This new motion tracker is only appearing in a test playlist for motion tracker. Everything else is untouched.

They specifically mentioned the people who want the motion tracker removed entirely in the Community Update.

If they just ignored those people, we’d have the motion tracker range back up to 25m across the board where it belongs without the need for a month-long test playlist. But no; 343 has got to impose these universal changes that are meant to please the minority, and run them through a public test instead of just making a separate playlist with no radar.
