NEW PLAYERS PLEASE READ

If you are just getting halo please take the time to read this. There are some people on these forums that will throw out false information on you. People don’t realize 343 has been responding to their comments and a lot of people are receiving wrong information. It’s spreading like a virus and Im just trying to shed some light on many negative issues. New players, it will be difficult to learn at first but I promise it is worth it.
Everything i I have found out is from 343, Microsoft, or many hours spent playing this game. I have put a lot of time into it, I’m not someone who played for a week and came on here acting like they knew what they were talking about. I play with skilled players who are very competitive. I can honestly say I’ve done the research and can prove it.
Radar- let me go ahead and say, don’t rely on it. It’s basically showing you when someone is about to kill you.
The weapon balance is perfect. The noob combo is even balanced. It’s good enough to were you can get kills but you can’t go around the map and dominate. All the guns have a purpose and serve that purpose, IF THEY ARE USED CORRECTLY. I was going to create a list of each gun and when to use it but I figured people could figure that out themselves.
This game requires knowledge of how to play and move around the map. Each map is played differently. You have to be able to adjust your playing style to do well on them.
One of the reasons why 343 has decided to slowly put out new information is to make sure all game play is well balanced and make sure there was no bugs. This is why they kept a small number of maps and playlist. 343 has officially come out and said they will be releasing more maps, more playlists, and more social playlists at that. It takes a long time to create these maps with the detail they put into them. I promise you they put a lot of thought into them as well. To the common player I’m sure they don’t look like much, but I promise there is a lot you’re missing. The best way I can tell you to learn is watch some of the pros and how they move around the map. This is not a basic halo were you run around and shoot. This game requires a lot thought and insight. I think this is why some people completely hate this game. this game does require skill.
There were some issues at the beginning for some people such as spawns and turning slowly with certain guns. 343 responded quickly and changed what they could. If you’re getting spawn killed the team you’re playing on is not very good and most likely the team you’re playing knows what they’re doing. The best advice I can give for this is use your mics. These are 4v4 plus matches. They were made to be played with teamwork.
No split screen, why? Regardless if people think the campaign is garbage (matter of opinion) 343 came out and said the reasoning. Which is, they wanted to create a larger and longer campaign than any halo. Which they did, split screen takes up A LOT of room in the game so they made the decision to go without it. Plus with this being 2015 I’m sure they thought most people have their own Xbox and TV, plus we have a new invention to where you can play online with anyone in the world, cool I know. Now for warzone, it’s a new concept that I enjoy. Not something I play everyday but I dabble here and there. As far as the micro transactions go, well it’s your money do what you want. Buying them will not make you better than anyone else, you’re just unlocking things before other people. If you think it’s unfair to in warzone, well the created the whole certain things cost certain req points which stops people from spamming op weapons. If you don’t have anything unlocked then buy them or put the time in to get them. I’ve not bought a single one and Warzone has always been a fair fight for me. The best way to unlock everything without dumping money in to it, buy bronze packs first, unlock all common, then sliver, and so on. This is by far the best way to Get everything out of your req points. What people don’t understand is how much the people at 343 enjoy the game of halo. Most of them if not all play this game. They’re not trying to create a game that will try to ruin halo or a half -Yoink- game that they don’t care about. 343 has come out and said why they’re doing the things they do. As far as sprinting and all of the abilities, they’re great, they work perfect in the game. The hard part is figuring out when to use them and when not to use them. All the new abilities have sped up game speed and this has been intimidating for some. If everything is done correctly nothing is over powered. The thing I love the most is the pistol. This is the pistol I have been waiting for since the first halo. The halos before this have either made it way to powerful or made it to were it was the first thing I dropped. Before people flip out I would like to say I have experience playing this game and the record to prove it. I’ve been in many fights with every gun vs pretty much every gun. I’ve watched the pros play and I keep up with 343 and what they say to the public.
Side note: Microsoft does not release any information on sales or population of a game. If you hear people talk about population or “the worst” sales in halo history they are getting their information from invalid sources. Actually Microsoft released one bit of information and that was halo 5 generated 400 million the first week in sales. Which made it the most ever in halo history. This is the only thing Microsoft has said about the sales. The one source I know many people quote is some VGC gaming doucher who ESTIMATES the total of copies sold. His crazy formulas are made by asking people who bought the game, and seeing what some stores sold. Even if he is close he doesn’t take into consideration copies dl. For population, people get their information from the XB LIVE top 10 most POPULAR game list. This is not even remotely close to the population currently playing. Again, Microsoft does not release this information but they did throw out some numbers as to time spent playing the first week.
Edit: this game is -Yoinking!- awesome, the weapons are all balanced, and there will be more maps and playlist to come. If people have any rebuttles to what I have said I would ask that you cite the source you got it from. I will go and read it and we can go from there. I’m not responding to uniformed people with false information that think they know what they’re talkining about. Most things I’ve said are not my opinion. They are facts coming from game creators and the big boys Microsoft. If you want any more information on other topics I will be happy to discuss with you. One more topic I’ve seen a lot, the HCS. regardless of where the money is coming from its money that they’ve made from this game. It’s 343s money to do what they please with it. From first week sales 2 million is change to them. They say it’s from micro transactions but technically it’s from money in their pocket. If you disagree with micro transactions then don’t buy them. Simple as that.

The fact that you felt the need to write all that just to defend 343i is telling enough of the current state of the game. If halo 5 was everything you claim it to be people would be able to figure it out themselves and not have you tell them.

your post in summary says “hey don’t listen to the bad opinions about halo 5 because they are not true, listen to my good opinion”. And that’s exactly what it is, an opinion. Your one fact was that there was $400 million sold in the first week. Anything with the name of halo on the cover would have done that, funny how they don’t tell you the sales of week 2 or how many returns they got in stores. Most likely because it would be an embarrassing number.

so how about you let the people who got the game over Christmas form their own opinions instead of shoving yours down their throat?

Do you really expect us to read that wall of text. We are halo fans not Harry Potter Book Nerds

Can’t we be both? I mean I enjoy the Halo novels.

I feel like you just skimmed through without actually reading what he had to say. And sure, some points were opinionated, but not to the point of “shoving them down our throats.” Additionally, he added that as a sidenote to the main post. What’s important to take away from this is that he is giving explanations for a lot of the same questions and concerns that we all had when the game first launched.

Thank you for sharing your opinions TC with the rest of the community. I find myself agreeing with many of your points. Halo 5 Guardians is an incredible game and I cannot get enough of its white-knuckle, rock-solid, edge-of-your-seat gameplay. Halo 5 online is a visceral and thrilling experience, one of the most exciting games I’ve ever played.

I also feel that the weapons balance is amazing, I played with all the weapons and not one felt too strong or weak…just perfect. The new Spartan moves are such a joy, and I adore ground pounding someone from a high altitude.

Halo 5 gameplay is pure gold, but just like many incredible games that came before it, there are many nuances to it that people can learn over time. My advice to others who are having a rough time is to keep practicing and try to find a group of players you can play with regularly, it will likely increase your enjoyment of the game

Happy holidays all

To be honest, this seems like a long winded way to try and cover for 343’s blunders. This part of your speech in particular seems flimsy.

First you disregard the near universal dislike of the campaign, from both critics and the community, by stating it’s just “opinion”. Then, you say 343 created a “larger and longer campaign than any Halo”, which is just objectively false. Then you disregard all the disappointed fans who don’t get to play the game with their friends and family by saying they should all have their own Xbox’s (what world do you live in where every family member in a house has their own Xbox and TV?).

I did in fact read the whole thing, but didn’t want to counter every single point and create my own wall of text so I stuck to the one thing that stood out in my mind. “Shoving” was probably a harsh word to use you are also right there, I just found the whole post ironic that he wrote an opinionated essay about not listening to other people’s opinions.

however, there is one undeniable fact that the OP is ignoring. Halo 5 was rushed to meet the release date. If you don’t think that’s true then you are lying to yourself. Providing more game modes and maps as DLC content is a facade. If 343i wanted to do what’s best for the game they would have delayed the launch until it was ready. Can halo 5 be a great game? Yes I think it can. Is it a great game right now? No I do not think it is. The same thing happened with MCC. Bad launch, population slowly decreases, and by the time the game is fixed the majority of the population has moved on.

i want halo 5 to succeed but I am not going to drink the kool-aid while it fails.

Great info for new players OP.

Good to see some light in these dark times lol.

Halo 5 Guardians is an amazing game!

Pro tips to new players: If you want even half-decent stats, do NOT jump into matchmaking and hope to learn your way as you go. Get full lobbies of 8-16 players in Custom games and play a LOT of custom games before you even touch matchmaking.

  1. No one read all of that. Especially not newbies. GG.
  2. ROFL at the implication that the “basic” Halo’s where you “just run around and shoot” didn’t require “thought, insight, and skill.”
  3. “343 didn’t make it splitscreen so that they could make a longer and and larger campaign than any Halo, which they did.” Reality: 4 hrs and 30 min. You honestly lost me here. Your blind worship and fanboyism to 343 have driven you to the point of pathologically lying for them. Have some integrity for the love of Christ.

Didn’t that number also include the LE Console? If so it in no way shows what the actual game sold.

Why would they need to update on sales after that? Mfs just made more than all other halos. Yes it includes consoles, and so do the others. What I was trying to say with these is people keep talking about declining population when in fact nobody knows. What I wrote is no longer than you going through each thread on each subject I try to cover. Yes some of these are my opinion but who would a new comer what to get an opinion from? Someone who has put a lot of time in the game or someone who played for a week, put it down and returned it, then just sit here and bash the game.

And yes im a mother -Yoinking!- fan of halo. Been since day one. Adapt or die.

I didn’t say much about campaign bc I never really played it. I’m not going to touch something that I haven’t put time in. I’m just stating to why 343 didn’t put split screen in and yes 343 came out and said all of that themselves. It’s very annoying for people to ask why no split screen when they told us why. As to the world we live in? Yes most people have their own tvs, and a lot of children have two xboxs. Actually there’s a good amount of kids that have every system. And it is just their opinion, there are some people who enjoyed the campaign so therefore, it’s an opinion.
Umm yes, yes it is the largest campaign. I will tell you, you are wrong bc it is a fact, not your opinion.

I am also a halo fan since day one, check my career, played halo2, 3, reach, odst, 4, and 5 all on this account. Also played tons of ce lan. I wish halo 5 was awesome and succeeded so I could get back into it but it just isn’t, I refuse to drink the 343i kool-aid.

And you must not understand marketing very well, if sales continued to hit record levels you would damn sure be hearing about it from them. They chose not to tell us because they don’t have to and it would not look good for them.

Lastly, if you are so naive to think that the population isn’t declining then there is no point having this discussion because you are delusional and clearly not going to listen to rational logic.

I have never seen someone suck on 343’s -Yoink!- this much. Does it taste good?

Hahaha I wanted to say the exact same thing at first and then decided that I should try and present a valid argument as to why he OP is wrong. Unfortunately that thing is so far down there I think he is suffocating and losing brain cells.

.

The hate filled posts in 343’s direction are so over the top it’s refreshing to see some of the same over the top arguments from the other side thrown back into the conversation.

We all have our opinions of his game. 343 did not make a perfect game not even close. The lack of content is a problem, one they are slowly working on yes but there should have been more to this game at release. Way more.

No split screen is another huge problem. I like 60 FPS. Love the feel of this game. But I don’t think that 343 took into account the wants of the halo fan base when they took out split screen.

I was 19 when CE was released, a lot of gamers in their low 20’s and late teens represented a huge portion of the community back then. These players now have kids who want to play with their dads online. They are old enough to play half decently and halo is by far the most kid friendly shooter. Warzone is a perfect playlist for this kind of thing. Father son, 2 siblings, a couple friends getting on and playing some split screen is really a staple that shouldn’t have been removed.

So no 343 didn’t do everything right. They did do a lot more right than wrong though.

I play the hell out of halo 5. It’s a good game, not perfect but no where near the abomination waypoint posters make it out to be. And judging by matchmaking times, im not the only one still enjoying this game. There’s a lot of us.

The only thing that players need to know… If you play solo, use the mic and stick together.
