Heyya
I am new to the Halo series and Xbox in general, I recently bought an Xbox with Halo Wars 2… is there any advice or things I should know? I haven’t played that much yet been trying to beat the campaign so far.

My advice. Play the campaign, once you beat it, beat it again on heroic. Then legendary. Then try to beat the legendary AI on legendary in custom games 1v1.
Do you have any experience with RTS games?

Starcraft 2 and Age of Empires from way back in the day
That’s good that you have some RTS experience. I’ll admit HW2 is a lot faster paced then most RTS titles, so take your time to get used to it. Don’t get upset if you lose a lot of games early on.
If you’d like someone to practice against I’m available next week, feel free to add me!
Heros are important now.
Check vids and twitch maybe for some opening builds.
Only play the campaign over and over if you find it enjoyable. I personally find it stale, and only really worth the fantastic cut scenes.
Play 1v1 against heroic and legendary AI in skirmish, and do multiplayer versus AI to earn XP and get a feel for team games and the different game modes.
Domination game mode teaches you early game tactics as it rewards building units quick, and always having a force on the field. Don’t Turtle.
Strongholds gets you familiar with your leader powers as they are all already unlocked and charged at the start, and shows you what all out battles are like, teaching you how to micro effectively. Side note: Unfortunately people will leave the game a lot vs AI Strongholds because they feel like it is a waste of time, if they do this then you will lose. So go ahead and save yourself the trouble.
Deathmatch is the standard game mode, and the best one.
That is a link to another topic where someone asked for a quick guide to all the leaders, I did the best I could in remembering every leaders unique abilities and units. Note: Ranking these leaders by tier shouldn’t deter you from picking a low tier leader as their units and effectiveness is relatively equal to all others, it’s only their effective leader powers that truly separate them into tiers. And in the case of Forge, his hero.
Play team wars with each leader and learn their leader powers, strengths and weaknesses. Find who you like the best and really practice with them.
Starting build orders are very important.
Scouting at 1 minute
be prepared for 3 minute rushes.
Learn to micro your units by highlighting and moving individual unit groups not just doing All units all the time " ALL UNITS"
donthe tutorial and learn how to group units in groups so you can easily slide with the D pad between unit groups.
The D pad helps a lot with moving around quickly between armies and ur bases
Learn what counters what. This is a Rock Paper Scissors game
Infantry beats air
Vehicles beat infantry
Air beats Vehicles
bur each infantry and vehicles also have counter units to beat their respective rock paper scissor advisary.
Power nodes and map control are very important aspect of the game.
Watch BTC “breaking the clutch” YouTube videos
Watch twitch Halo Wars streams.
Good luck!!!
Is there something like Meta characters in game? Or are all the leaders evenly balanced?

Right now Sgt.Forge and Serina are the strongest, both will probably be nerfed soon™
If you want to jump in and try blitz, don’t be discouraged that your cards are low leveled. Skill wins the game more than card level.
Always for for energy cores. After the initial spawn at the start they drop every 2 minutes at 9:10, 7:10, 5:10 etc. Don’t go for the zones early, rush to the energy drops. Try to take map control and leave a grunt or scout at every energy drop so they’ll grab them automatically when they come. IF you see your enemy taking these positions around the map, build a small 2-3 unit force and separate it from your main to go around the map and clear these out.
Keep you deck cheap, don’t have more than 2-3 cards that cost more than 110. Infantry balls are cheap and effective with just about every leader. The more you play and watch others, the more leader-specific strats you’ll pick up and develop.
Good luck and remember to have fun. Welcome to the community!
