New patch broke BTB

Since the last patch when i load into a btb game it goes to a black screen. After several minutes I’m booted back to the lobby and I’m banned for unsporting conduct or inactivity!?! This is for the xbox one

There was a reddit thread about this recently. The best theory, that seemed like there was some evidence to support it, is that when this happens it’s a JIP game. It seems like Infinite joins you into a server, but won’t actually spawn you until a big game event happens, like a flag capture.

So the theory goes

  1. You join in, and the server adds you to a JIP game.
  2. The game starts your AFK timer, but doesn’t spawn you in because no major trigger event occurs.
  3. If no major event occurs within the 90 second afk check, you get booted for being AFK.

People in the thread indicated that if you just press buttons occasionally, you won’t get the AFK boot, but it can sometimes take a while to actually get to be running around on the map.

JIP= Join in Progress.
I don’t remember if the AFK timer is 60, 90, or 120 seconds, but I believe it’s one of those.

I’ve had this happen to me once the other day as well. I wasn’t banned for it but it did say I was sent back to the lobby because of inactivity and I was stuck on the pre load graphic until being sent back to the lobby.

The xbox one version of this game is especially chalked unfortunately. Biggest disadvantage is you’re stuck at 30 fps even if your tv/monitor can do 60 or better. The last halo game that was 30 fps was Reach on 360.

Yo if you think JIP a flag game is bad, try JIP a Total Control. TC is the one mode which can literally end in 5 minutes and it’s hilarious when it ends during the loading screen and you can even hear the end-of-match jingle.

They should really do a check for JIP:

  • Time left 10 min >
  • Score progress 50% or < (which means it will never put you into a 2 scored match)
