I get this message every time I log in to play multiplayer online. What does it mean? Do I need to adjust some settings to fix it?
“Your NAT type is not open. Matchmaking may be slow.”

If you’re on Moderate NAT, you can’t connect to or communicate with anyone on Closed NAT. Closed NAT can’t connect to Moderates or to other Closeds. Open NAT can connect to everyone.
What all this means is that if you’re not on Open NAT, the game has to spend more time looking for people you can connect to. If you’re Open, then the game can just pick anyone it sees.
I hear having your Ip address “static” helps open your nat.

This. There’s a whole thread that covers it, which I think is either stickied in the Reach section or easy to find in a search.
What does “NAT” mean?
I am not on HALO REACH at this point. I am Halo Combat Evolved. I need to know what NAT is.
So far what I have learned from this is that most of the replies on all responses is mostly HALO REACH and not HALO COMBAT EVOLVED. If you read the forums you will see that most people are having problems with that edition of the game. I want to know what, and how, to fix my NAT problem.

NAT is the same thing no matter what game you’re on. The thread is in the Reach section simply because Reach players encounter NAT issues more frequently (since there are more of them).
It’s “Network Address Translation”, used for routers. The outside world sees only your router, and sends traffic to its one IP address; the router uses NAT to ensure that each computer or game console connected to it receives only the data that it is supposed to receive. Apparently, there are certain levels of “strictness” that apply to NAT, and some of these can cause problems with online gaming.
The solution, for Reach or any other game, is to get Open NAT by changing certain settings on your router or modem.
> I think this is the thread Cobb is talking about. Hope it helps!
That’s the thread and if it isn’t,I haven’t seen any others as knowledgeable as that one…
Wait you can play this game online?
