So there’s been a lot of talk over the years about how Halo is no longer Halo or how sprint is utter garbage and needs to go and all that fun stuff. Well I honestly don’t care and find that both Halo 4 (more MCC Halo 4 than 360) and Halo 5 still feel and play like Halo to me. But I do know there are some fans who want a return to the classic gameplay with no sprint or Spartan abilities or any of that stuff.
However, there is also the middle ground, which is where I place myself. I don’t care if sprint is around or not. I don’t care about smart scope and whether it’s ADS or some psuedo in between thing. 343i can get rid of those in Halo 6 and I’ll be fine with it. But there are some things I don’t want to see leave. The thruster pack, ground pound, and stabilizers. I found these abilities to be very fun to use and really change how you approach a battle. I don’t want to see them leave Halo. So, I decided to create a custom game variant of Slayer that acts as a middle ground.
Introducing, Hybrid.
Hybrid disables clamber and sprint, and by doing so also slide and Spartan Charge, but keeps the thruster pack, ground pound, and stabilizers turned on for the player to use. Speed and jump height have been increased to 120% to compensate for the lack of sprint and clamber, which allows you to move at basically the same speed as when you are sprinting and allows you to reach a majority of all the routes you’d usually reach using clamber. Strafing has also been modified to 130%
I’ve also started messing around with the weapon damage and health of the player to work well with the new settings, these are still in testing.
So for those of you who want to play classic Halo but retain some of the new features that Halo 5 offers, invite some friends to a custom lobby and give Hybrid a chance!
