its a class based mode. Everyone still starts with the same stuff but everyone gets to choose an ultimate ability that is unlocked with several kills only or fighting for ultimate pickup on the map.
As you get kills and level up to get your ultimate, you will visually level up too so that enemies know when and what you could be capable of.
the type of ultimate abilities I would like are ones that alter and change how a map is played to keep matches fresh kinda like the game valorant.
To make classes more interesting I guess you could have smaller buffs. To activate your smaller buff you need just one kill. the buff could be one of either reload faster, slide around corners, frag grenades that now leave smoke behind if you hold the button down etc. All of this should be visual too so you know what your opponent is capable of. For example, I see an enemy kill someone and then they power up which is a permanent visual effect for everyone to see and now i know their buff and potential ultimate.
edit- maybe the smalller buffs could be get 1 kill, get one grappleshot, repulsor, pullse radar, or dropwall etc. mayybe an invis or overshield that lasts 5 seconds
This is just too far away from what Halo is built upon. I think something like this is better for Destiny or overwatch which already have ultimates.

i dont think its far away from halo. everyone still starts the same but with a twist.
i feel like a lot of pvp shooters are heading in the same direction where they offer similar things but with their own twist. I think its foolish being scared to add new class based modes just because halo has never done it successfully before.
Feels more like it’s own game than a Halo Infinite game mode. Bringing in classes and ultimate abilities would deviate from everybody having equal starts.
If you move away from the principle of equal starts then why not bring in the option to play as different species? Like Battlefront where you have your B1 droids but then a limited number of spawns of B2, Droideka, Commando droids etc.
I am not opposed to that. But it’s very much moving away from the core gameplay. Doesn’t Gears 5 have something similar?
gears 5’s class mode is a pve mode. it didn’t interest me.
the reason i didnt suggest complete new species is so that the mode works in tandem with all your spartan customization. what I suggested is not actually that complex. It works with current maps and all that is needed is to design ultimate abilities(aka equipment) and extra visuals for gameplay information.
halo 4 is a poor game and not just because of its poorly implemented class based system
Sounds like Halo 4. I’m glad we moved away from class systems

every other class based shooter is halo 4 too i guess then.
halo 4 is a create your own class system. My idea is closer to halo reach class system but not as bad.
The equipment in halo infinite already ruins equal starts. We don’t need Halo to move more onto that. Direction. HOWEVER. Everything you mentioned should be a custom game option
do weapons you earn on the map also ruin equal starts?
The thruster pack, repulsor, and grapple give you movement options. Movment options that guns don’t have. So no. Weapons don’t ruin eqaul starts.
why is movement buff pickups worse than weapon buff pickups?
This sounds more like a soft MOBA or… well… any Hero based shooter really, and not something that I would particularly want for Halo.
I don’t like the idea of “leveling up” in an arena shooter, just leave it based on skill not someone getting lucky with a frag and now has a boost.
This also sounds like it would be way too much work for one game mode, even Warzone was just a culmination of already existing features, excluding reqs.
Halo already has powerups and equipment, we don’t need “ultimates”, Halo has it’s twist to gameplay, we don’t need to mimic other games and try to mesh them.

Because you can move in different ways than others.
If someone has a sniper and I have a BR. that person is still moving the same as me. No matter what power weapon he has, he still has the same movement.
you already get a boost when you kill someone. you send them back to spawn and are able to make additional moves because theyre gone.
warzone required massive maps and a monetization system. My idea is incredibly simple. 343 are going to make more equipment anyway. And ultimates are basically just equipment
ok… and with power weapons you can shoot “in different ways than others”. please tell me the difference that makes you disagree with movement buffs but agree with weapon buffs.
Ok, I have to disagree with equipment stopping equal starts, considering you don’t start with them.
A feeling I always think about whenever someone says that is when I’m on spawn. Every weapon is picked up. Every equipment is picked up and your just left with what you spawned with. No where in my mind do I feel “equal” when that happens. If I’m going to a battle and someone is using a sheild wall and then next battle all of a sudden he uses his truster pack, the fight isn’t “equal”. When it comes to guns, every gun can out shoot every gun. A side kick can out shoot a sniper. A mangler can out shoot. Rocket. When you have equipment. You can’t out move. If someone has a grapple. You can’t out move him. If someone had the thruster. You can’t out juke him. If someone has the sheild wall you can’t defend yourself like he can.
Movement. And shooting are two separate things. They shouldn’t be lumped in together when talking about advantages and disadvantages. You can pick any gun and face it against any gun. Both players will have equal opportunity to kill within shooting. Once you add equipment you are just giving certain players an advantage just for the sake of having an advantage. You not only spawn near some of the equipment but they are also on your side of the map when you spawn. People say that the ablities are something t be at you should earn through game play but what’s the difference between walking a couple of seconds to the equipment spawn and spawning with it instead?
Take bazaar. Each team has a thruster on their side of the map. That means any and all times that spawns flip the team on spawn has the possibility of gaining a free thruster. To that someone will say “but doesn’t the other team have one on their side of the map?” Thats correct. However the problem is you can pick it up. Die with it and now it’s sitting in any part of the map the player died in. The more players engaging in battle. The more these items drop. Some kills happen on purpose like killing the flag carrier but knowing you’ll die in the process because your one shot. These deaths even tho nesscary drop the equipment. There is Millon and one scenarios that could play out. Once you begin to see the scope of how equipment effects the arena you will see that equipment isn’t something you earn. It isn’t something you fight for. It simply exsists as an advantage and nothing more. In this same map the grapple is in the middle. Here is where someone can make an argument that equipment is fair. The fact that it’s in the middle. But even then I say to myself “why does he get to have all the fun” when someone picks it up and uses it. Someone could say “couldn’t you feel that way about the sniper if you wanted to?” Yes. Yes I can. However shooting and moving are two different things.
Other than behemoth(horrible map) there is no map that has in the middle equipment spawns. There is no evidence that equipment is equal. There is evidence of it being one sided. Evidence of players getting free equipment just for Spawning. Evidence of it breaking the pace of objective game modes like when a grapple flings himself into the flag spawn to kill a flag carrier. Evidence of it just being straight up unfair when you are on spawn and your facing someone with a repulsor AND a power weapon.
This is a core mechanic of most if not all shooters, otherwise what else would happen? You just have two people stare at eachother? This is also far different than getting something like a damage boost for the rest of the game.
No, your idea is literally a whole new game, and here’s why:
- You want ultimates, ultimates are done in games with champions or heroes, or whatever label you want, they have preset personalities, stories, and abilities to explain and compliment their playstyle, or at the very least, a class system to dictate a playstyle. Halo has never done this, they did loadouts in reach and 4.
- The issue here is that we need ABILITIES, if players spawn with these, there’s no reason to have the weapons and abilities on the maps, you spawn with what you want! This means Halo is no longer an Arena shooter, it’s some weird RPG amalgam.
- We can’t have loadouts becuase there’s a painfully limited selection available already, and CQC and Sniper loadouts would spawn with a power weapon, so all that’s left are rifles, rifles that are already easily accessible on the map and have no reason being a loadout.
- So, we have to do classes akin to destiny, but what classes are we going go have, how are they going to work, be unique, justify existing at all, not take away from the core game, and change the game itself, all while still maintaining the feel of Halo? You would be trying to cram in a feature that has no reason to fit in.
- The entire point of Halo being the way it is, is so that you fight for your advantages, you fight to get grapple (movement boost) and OS, it encourages map knowledge and coordination, making it so that everyone spawns with what they want negates a lot of what makes Halo unique.
