New MatchMaking Player Sort Idea!

Alright, Reach’s matchmaking has some pretty good preferences for player sorting, like Similar skill and such, and has a pretty good psych profile list too, like chatty competitive etc.

Now some of the main things people seem to complain about (other than sprint, AL etc.) are:
A: DLC doesn’t get selected very often.
B: Favorite Gametype doesn’t get selected often
C: Can’t get an achievement because the Gametype/DLC combo is rarely selected.

Now, what if H4 had extra sorting preferences. For example, I might put in my preferences that I prefer to play with players who select Headhunter and Slayer Pro, then H4 would find players that often selected Headhunter as a gametype, Slayer Pro as a gametype, or BOTH! WOOO!
(I imagine the gametype preferences being a list of all MM gametypes and you simply checkmark the ones you prefer, or maybe a scale like how you change your controller sensitivity, with 1 being I don’t want to play it ever and 10 being I want to play it always.)

Same would go for DLC. I’d set a search restriction to “DLC preferred” or something like that.

By combining both we’d also solve problem C which relates to achievements.

This would also make playlist populations go up much more, because we wouldn’t need separate playlists for everything. E.G. Like TU Slayer? Put it in your preferences and you’ll be paired up with others who like it in the same playlist. On the offhand chance that there aren’t enough people to do that, it might take a couple people who don’t like it.

Thoughts.

Neat idea …

I think more playlists should require DLC …

But that’s just me.

I’m thinkin that with this “DLC” preferred sort we wont need that. I guess DLC required playlists would be good for a guaranteed DLC game, but the player sort idea won’t alienate new players.

EDIT: Then again, new players might not bother with DLC if they know the playlist is so huge and there’s always going to be other people to play they might not buy the DLC.
Maybe a few DLC req. playlists then.

I think that the system should be a bit more complex. I think without a player setting preferences, because if that happened there would become a small few groups of players who could never get what they wanted because no one else likes what they like, you know?

I think instead, the MM system should be somewha similar to reaches. However, a bit more complex.

The first option should be the most played gametype/map combo that month, The 3rd should be the least played, and the middle should be absolutely random. Then, half the players in the MM playlist your in should be common playyers of the most played, and the second half should be common played of the least played, or atleast this should be aimed towards, but not required to keep matching speeds up.

This way, the most played and least played Maps/Game types are always playable according to a players preference, and the third, random option in junction with the other two allows for easier adjusting to changing preferences or trends in the mass of the players.

Honestly, all we need is a DLC search restriction option, not the ability to search for people who vote for the same things as you. At least not in ranked. The voting system was bad enough, now we’re deciding exactly what we play before we even press search? Besides, Halo 4 shouldn’t have multiplayer achievments at all. Definitely not in team games.

I disagree. I rarely ever play the campaign, and i get really dissapointed when i stop getting achievements because im playing MM.

Right on. MM achievements need to stay.

In regard to how complex the preferences should be, maybe we could lessen the complexity a bit, but just keep the idea. I kinda like how your idea accomodates the minority a little more.

Halo was originally a Campaign, and whether or not you realize that is your problem. Halo should keep at the minimal number of Multiplayer achievements with around 90% staying for campaign. It gives campaign loads more replay-ability that multiplayer really doesn’t need.

And there is a problem with this? They could just put achievements everywhere for everyone.
