New map: The Pit - coming November

I think it’s more that the release build of Forge won’t be out until then.

Doesn’t sound that far fetched.

Design. Testing. Bot implementation.

Working out which objective games work well (or not).

And I imagine it would be easier to make a new map specifically for Infinite’s game mechanics than have to adapt and old one and try to keep as much of the original feel and flow you can.

This forum would be the first to crucify them if a particular game type doesn’t work.

And the time frame has no context without knowing the amount of resources being implemented.

I can’t wait to play it, maybe hoped more but it’s better than nothing at this point.

Back in halo 5 I did love the fact that forge maps were implemented into actual matchmaking. It made it have all the more veritable selections. Along with player-made modes too. I can see that forge would be a major player in the future in fixing the content drought for sure. Now we just need a ranking system, free cosmetic system, and de-sync fixes.

Note: customs browser in mcc and halo 5 is the best by far. Speed halo was the best game known to man and will always be mah go to choice in a party game. Idk. Seeing the warthogs have seizures and get sent flying into a wall abruptly turning into a smoke cloud and the body flying over 200mph through another wall will always be the funniest thing I’ll ever see

Oh yeah. Especially when halo5s bodies did air cart wheels.

In halo 5 theres a glitch where if you ground pound an 8x stacked crate set to (normal) in physics in the right spot (corner of the crate stack, you have to be on top of the crate) it will move so slightly. But it moving literally kills you instantly and causes you to ragdoll straight into the sky out of the skybox at Mach-20 speed. So fast maverick will cry of happiness.

I discovered it in a social lobby when I was fighting someone and tried to ground pound her. My character hit the crate and it killed me sending me ragdolling to space, I began to test it over and over just dying and being sent to space over and over lol. literally the entire lobby of 12 pushes all the other loose crates near me and they begin trying. So we all go into the same party and I’m legit teaching them this and we all just scream of laughter as someone gets sent into space so fast it causes the air to split.

Halo is one of those things i have the fondest memories of. Boy I wish I could go back to those days.

I lost my voice that day but it was worth it.

(Pardon the overuse of the word “literally” this made me think back to my fondest memories and where I made life long friends, lmao tooootally not crying)

Because they’re doing more than testing that map. They’re releasing it alongside the canvas. The canvas we cannot use, without Forge.

So why release it without Forge? That’s silly. It’s a forge map on a forge canvas. We cannot HAVE the map WITHOUT the canvas map. It has ALWAYS worked that way.

Narrows was actually leaked a while back.

Making maps is far more than visual my guy, you have to playtest it. You have to make sure AI can use it now. You have to make sure the lighting is good. A 343i made Forge Map HAS to be as good as say, Aquarius. That’s the baseline.

and it is, quite frankly, that good.

They also took a HUGE risk in removing the fence for open space instead - and they added a couple of map features as well. They have to test OLD maps in a NEW sandbox. This isn’t rocket science. There are SO MANY new variables at play here and they HAVE to be playtested THOROUGHLY.

Then they have to be made presentable.

They have to make a developer quality play experience. No corners can be cut, nothing can be unpolished. They have to make it spiffy, clean, gotta’ make it play well and it has to be impressive… and it has to be as good as a beloved legacy map.

So it’s HARD work.

Gods yeah none of my maps ever really had actual mode support, that is such a pain in the neck to implement.

Bingo.

BINGO.

Hopefully it will become more than a leak :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

This is how I feel too. Like new maps and new arena maps are good. Please and thank you!

Map looks way too flashy tbh

Man, there’s no winning. Some say it’s untextured, others say it’s too flashy.

Actually I got the cat ears the first day they were available and they’ve basically never come off, love 'em to death.

They got other stuff to do, still playing catch-up.

Oh you know people would be all, “Why can’t they do it themselves? Incompetent studio.”.

No it doesn’t. It shows how a back-end new mombasa street would look like in 2560. Or, did you not see the NMPD postings literally all over the place?

It’s fine. You can call it flat but like. It’s also fine. It is perhaps too purple. It could certainly use more color contrast. I saw an orange edit on twitter that was really cool. I’d like a purple sky and orange lights version, that’d rock really hard.

Nah, I could not remake and playtest The Pit and get it working for multiple game modes and have it look real nice, on top of being smoothly playable for Infinite’s sandbox, while also ripping out the fence wall as a direct gameplay decision, in a week. I could not get new and old trick jumps working in a week. I could not, indeed, make a hyper-accurate in terms of gameplay/feel remake of The Pit that challenges what The Pit actually is, in a week.

And frankly none of you could alone either. The color palette needs a contrast to the purple. Other than that they really did a superb job… and, if you think I’m some, wack 343i defender…?

Nah. I really hate the precedents that Halo 4 set for the franchise, I wanted to like Halo 5 but ultimately was only there for Forge, and well - since Halo Wars 2, 343i has been doing their best in putting their best foot forward.

I’d say they’ve done okay. Infinite does a lot right and a lot wrong. Luckily most of what it does wrong can be fixed over time… and they are doing that.

So level artists, playtesters, enviroment artists have other things to do? What exactly?

You completely missed the point. It doesn’t matter if its new mombasa style, cyberpunk style or futurstic style. That was not my point.

Thats probably the reason you are not working in the gaming industry.

You sure about that? I wouldn’t judge so quickly.

Who cares about the purple color theme? They can go completely bonkers with the colors, I don’t care. I’m talking about the layout and testing style the map has. Even Forge maps from H3 had more unique style, not to mention the stuff forgers are producing with infinite’s version (which is not even offcially released…)

If one of the largest dev companies MS has are producing THIS for a known anniversary, teasing it with world premier… well… thta’s just sad.

Agree with many others here and on social media, this should not of been called a “world premiere” they hyped this up (or tried too) way too much. I can understand them calling this a world premiere if they were showing something like forge or a completely brand new playlist or something but not for one bloody forge map! For the 15 year anniversary celebration of Halo 3, this was very disappointing in my opinion.

As far as the map goes, some things look interesting, but I’m not feeling the look for it at all! I know it’s still a work in progress (like this game…lol) but way too much purple and grey, too blocky and for me personally, if this is supposed to be “the pit” from Halo 3, it sure doesn’t look like it. I’d much rather have “remakes” of maps. Like Halo 5 did with that map that was “midship” but it crashed (I don’t recall the name right now) I thought that was a good idea.

I don’t like playing remakes because they are never as good as the original in my opinion and just try to tarnish my memory of x map. Leave the old maps in the pass. Give me “sequels” to maps If you must or how about just making all new maps! (There’s a concept!!) So I can have some new memories.

Very interested to see where this game is at, how many people are playing, etc. come Nov/Dec.

It takes a good bit to code where the bots can and cant go and other stuff like that, ROME WASNT BUILT IN A DAY Goodnight

a habit 343 got after the original launch of halo mcc and if you want to argue halo 4 with how the flood gametype is implemented ie screwing up one of the main game modes used in custom games

I don’t run bots on my Custom Game Server! and never will!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

Thats you bro, I aint trying to tell you to use bot coding (I do suggest tho BC playing with bots on a map you love is way more fun than playing with players you dont know, Especially if none of your friends are online
:point_right:peace :point_left:

…Why do you assume I want to lmao.

Wait right, that’s the base assumption isn’t it, that every gamer wants to do it for a living, lol. No. It’d be cool to develop games but I have a PRETTY FIRM GRASP on how horrid the industry is.

No, I’m a welder, writer and artist. I spend my time making my own things.

Then back it up.

Over a week or so I made a very nice 1v1 map that my entire friend group loved back in 5. I’m quite a good forger. But I’m not forging for a multibillion dollar game competitively with the type of Q&A this game needs.

In other words, you’re out of your depth but, I imagine that’s not infrequent for you.

You don’t have to. However you do need to understand that any officially supported map needs bot support now.

If you can’t recognize that then I really do not know what to tell you.

Maybe I should explain better. In my CUSTOM GAMES MODES I make sure there are “NO” bots in my Custom Game Modes. It does not matter what map it is regardless if the map supports bots or not. I turn them off!

I don’t like bots. I like the human intervention only

Peace! :fist_right::fist_left:

I saw that too. I think it looked nicer. The orange glow kind of heralded back to the original map palette.

And I think the other thing is that I still attribute purple glow to the Covenant.

That’s cool and all but I think you’re missing my point.

That’s kinda’ funny isn’t it? Since The Covenant are basically gone, and all. But yeah I get it.
