New machinima in halo universe, yeah. This is not bad. This is okay. This is good maybe. Coming soon.
I and my friends have 3 questions:

  1. Whether to wait to open a new file share or buy a capture card;
  2. How to make duplicates of the player in the forge, as in some videos;
  3. Do you like this trailer\ effects work on it? C:

Hey I just started doing Machinima a few weeks ago my self so I’m not realy that much of an expert, but

  1. For me it was a no brainer I already owned a capture card the quality of video is not g reat because its an older one I will be upgrading next year.
  2. You could always invite people you know who have a simalure ranking as your characters do and have them be double’s or at a distance their is the halogram glitch.
  3. The credit effects are good the shots were off though the camera shot’s it self moved around to much.

My friends and I are working on a machinima ourselves. Firstly are you all in the same room or in different states? When your in a different state things can get really tricky.

  1. You want a capture card because then you don’t have to worry about render minutes and can do all the camera techniques and editing you want without a restriction. I use a Hauppauge Game Edition HD PVR.

  2. If your all in the same room it makes it easier that way, but you will need everyone to bring their Xbox over and system link to one TV, while the other TV is used for the camera (That’s how Rooster Teeth does it). Also make sure you have a storyboard / script made out before you start recording. This saves you time. Now for them to look like you, they either need to be the same rank or higher. I like a variety of looks but it all depends on your type of machinima.

If your in different states I am not to sure how it works because you cant do the weapons ready (where you drop the weapon) when your signed online. Now to record online without should be more simple. Now I am not 100% correct on how this can work but lets give it a shot.

1.Get all the characters online in a XBL party chat.
2.Go to the level your wanting to record.
3.Make sure the storyboard & script is completely finished
4.You can either have two xboxes hooked to two TV’s in one room so you can control the camera on one and control the character on another and record in forge ball mode. Or you can use the theater mode and do all the visual recordings later.
5.You can use your HD PVR to record the others sound if you want to be lazy or they all have to download Audacity and record their lines and then export them and email them to you for the final editing process.

That is how we are doing it, but we have been experimenting with other ways too. Seeing which one fits us best. It is not easy when people are in different states.

  1. As for the trailer I would suggest you add voice to each character, turn the music down so we can hear the characters, and work on the camera technique. For an example check out my Rooster Teeth Season 9 Music Video Machinima Contest entry AKA GMV (Game Music Video). I did like the editing of the words and intro to the trailer, but try to shorten the long periods of blackness. Try fading it to the next frame.
