I watched the video with Halo 4’s in-game footage, and does anyone else think it’s odd how the Battle Rifle and Master Chief’s armour have suddenly changed? I mean, he was lost in space. I know a lot of time may have passed, but he was still lost in space. What happened? Did fashionable aliens come along and sproose things up a bit while he was sleeping?
I can say the same thing about Chief’s jetpack in E3’s announcement trailer. Where did that come from? I don’t remember Master Chief wearing a jetpack at the end of Halo 3! I’m fine with all these new looks. But only if 343 add a cutscene, line of dialogue or even an easter egg explaining how he got all these new fancy gadgets. Does anyone agree?
I remember someone saying something about his version of armor being able to change in cryo sleep.

I am sure they’ll come up with something. I bet that’ll be part of the first 5-10 minutes of the game.

-Thats actually really funny. Im picture elites coming in skirts and bows and having a chief makeover.
But there was also talk that chief won’t even start out looking like this. For all we know, we wake up as halo 3 chief, play a level and get the MJOLNR mk VII. Im sure 343i won’t just be like yea so he has a jet pack, deal with it. It seems as though they really care about staying true to the halo series and pulling off a, “oh its always been there you just never used it,” dosnt seem like its their style. BUT we will have to wait and see!

The armour he had when we last saw him was Mark VI, the armour with the ability to upgrade and repair itself in cryo is Mark VII.
Alright, let me get this cleared up right here.
The Battle Rifle looks different, because it’s a newer model (Halo 4 takes place 5 years after Halo 3).
John’s armor looks different due to two things. The first thing is an actual canon reason, but 343i has stated that the canon reason for the change is only a small part, the main part of the change in just an aesthetic update. Meaning, it’s still a Mk. VI, it’s just sometime during the game it gets an update like the zero-g thruster pack on his back (don’t ever take early trailers as gospel truth. The original teaser showed John with the new look, but that doesn’t mean he actually starts with it in the full game).
It’s Mk. VII armor that can update itself, and it does it while in Cryo. John still has the Mk. VI, which doesn’t update at all (Mk. VII has some kind of nanotechnology which allows the updating and repair).
> I can say the same thing about Chief’s jetpack in E3’s announcement trailer. Where did that come from? I don’t remember Master Chief wearing a jetpack at the end of Halo 3!
Thruster pack* there is a difference.
Also, the Chief has always had it, he just never had to use it.
why he looks so different: Bungie legally owns the rights to his image, so 343 simply had to make a new one
why the BR looks so different: same as with Chief, but also its been a couple years since chief was lost, the UNSC could of upgraded the BR
why he has a jetpack: …no idea… maybe he just had the jetpack in the trailer to show off that the jetpack will make a return
youve been living under a rock

Read my post above your’s
> Thruster pack* there is a difference.
That is a thruster pack, not a jetpack, even Frankie said so. Also, incase people get even more confused, the thruster pack is meant for zero G.

sorry they look the same

Nope. Microsoft owns Halo, not Bungie, and Bungie’s already handing the mantle to 343 Industries anyway.
-
Read my above post. BR looks different because it’s a newer model, because Halo 4 takes place 5 years after Halo 3. John’s armor looks different, partly because of an actual canon explanation that will be given when it’s given, but mostly due to just an aesthetic update.

It’s a zero-g thruster pack, and either the MJOLNIR Mk. VI suits have always had them and we just haven’t seen them in use before, or they’re part of the canon reason for the updated armor (the Mk. VII suits seem to have them too, perhaps John gets some kinda downgraded version of the thrusters that are designed for Mk. VI, i don’t know). You’re right that they were just showing it off to show that you’ll get it at some point or another.
It’s not a jetpack like in Reach, it’s a zero-gravity thruster pack, which is designed only for zero-g enviroments due to being weaker than a jetpack. Perhaps there will be zero-g enviroments in the game that will make use of the thrusters, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Frankie already said there was a reason why he looks different, which is most likely the inclusion of Mark VII.
I don’t know where that stupid theory of the armor changing in cryo came from though.
> I remember someone saying something about his version of armor being able to change in cryo sleep.
That reminds me of that one time a hobo changed me while i was sleeping
Halo 4 takes a few years after Halo 3, and the armor in the trailer is not final, it is there just to show of the new armor Masterchief will probably get in the mid game or beginning, and as for the jetpack, its a thruster… EVERYPONY spartans have those…
