I donât actually mind the whole bird-dinosaur relationship in the Jackal. My issue is simply that the new Jackal looks bad, its head is too big compared to its body, and the new look doesnât match the Jackals gameplay style or character.
I like to think the Covenant are a collection of different and unique alien species that could survive on their own individually. At present the H4 Covenant look like they come from the same planet, and that Jackals are just feral animals. Theyâve lost their look of intelligence, and they are meant to be very smart.
I think if they toned the dino stuff down a bit it would look pretty cool. And the neck has too much puppy flab.
I doubt 343 will have an explanation for all the Covenant looking like lizards. If they did they would have to explain other things like MCâs totally different armor set. Which they already âexplainedâ with the lame -Yoink- excuse of⌠because art.

Itâs mostly because art, but there was a big thread discussing that it is nano-tech and mjolnir upgrades and maintains itself while in cryo
Yes, I know they wanted to change the chief up a bit, but it could still have a decent explanation. Also, the nano tech is in the Mk VII and that tech was made after the chief went into cryo, there is only one Spartan 2 with that tech and itâs not the chief.

I assume your talking about Naomi? But you donât think that they just put nano-tech in her armor? I mean, it had to be a thing when mark VI was made and they really pumped money into those suits, Iâm sure his had nano-tech
Iâm thinking âStormâ here just picked the short straw. All the athletic, in shape jackals went to other teams of covenant and Storm got stuck with a bunch of defected moray eels. I still think they look pretty BA, though.
Naomi was given MJOLNIR Mk. VII which has the nano tech. Chief has Mk. VI.

They look pretty badass. I love 'em! All the newly redesigned character/enemy models just look fantastic.

Itâs too large a leap from what we know though. There has never even been mention of nano-tech in Mjolnir Mk VI or lower, and we have never even had any suspicion of it. The Chiefs badly damaged chest-piece being a great example, nano-tech would have repaired it after all, and the chest scar is STILL present in his H4 incarnation as well. We can all imagine that nano-tech could repair something like Mjolnir, thatâs not the issue with this explanation, itâs simply that nano-tech is not part of Mjolnir Mk VI.
The Forward Unto Dawn has been changed under artistic license, the same should be applied for the Mk VI. There is no need for canonical reason, as it just serves to confuse all of the changes in H4.

No, I get that. Weâve all seen Jurassic Park. But this is in reverse. Also it didnât take 100,000 to 1,000,000 years. And the skull structure of the 2 Jackal variants differ completely. From the neck down the new jackals make sense but Iâve never seen anything in the Halo universe that has a head that looks anywhere near what the new Jackal looks like. Iâm interested in what the explanation will be.

> Hmm. I believe you may have caught onto the reason why the storm covenant look different from the actual covenant. In the books it was said that certain forerunners can cause a species to devolve as the forerunners did to the humans after the forerunner - human war. Humans were on par with forerunner intellect before the devolution and even found a cure for the flood but alas, all was lost after they were devolved and lost their intelligence. So maybe the covenant were devolved by the forerunners in an attempt to stop them from searching Requiem for artifacts. However the storm may have been more advanced that thought so even after being devolved they still scavenge Requiem for artifcats, quite a persistent bunch.

Best I can come up with. These jackals are probably ancestors. Just primal and have yet to really evolve.

Or just some splice friendly genetic at the Covenant homeworld(s) who though it would be a good idea to mix a brute and a Jackal, the best of two worlds? ^^
Well, I like their look, they look mean and dangerous, might just put up a fight for once unlike the usual Halo enemies 
They canât look this menacing for no reason right? I mean in a ctuscene the elite/knight got in your face as an intimidation method or maybe even to bite you if you werenât quick enough to conquer it.
So maybe the grunts will attack you like jockeys in Left 4 Dead 2 and the jackals may bite your arm or seomthing. Who knows.

The only result I can see from a Jackal and brute crossbreed, is the skull coming out looking like the Halo 4 Jackal. Other than that, lol I donât see the resemblance and would be silly.

I actually like their new look and the rest of the covenant too. They actually look scary for the first time in the series.
