I have to say, I do think Invasion could use some new maps. Cause I don’t like the fact, that the last time I played, all you had was Spire and Boneyard. So I agree some new maps would be handy.
I still believe that Beakpoint shouldn’t have been DLC only since it’s geat, and new original maps are welcomed. Probably ones that aen’t so campable as Spire or Boneyard phase 3.
I really hope invasion gets some love soon, its about 99% of everything i play and while i love bone yard and spire I’ve had my fill of both. But i do not think community maps are the way to go.
Invasion is very touchy with providing equal opportunity for players with weapon placements and spawn locations and i’m not hating on community maps, but from my experience this is where they fall short.
I think at least adding Breakpoint to the standard playlist should happen, even if people didn’t pay for the DLC. I have all the DLC and would not complain if i got to play a map i paid extra for more often.
If community maps are added then i think they should be given a very thorough once over by 343. The worst thing would be having locations where great invasion players can just stump new or inexperienced invasion players (eg. spawning alpha offence on boneyard).
I would be more interested in invasion type games on the bigger anniversary maps like ridgeline and breakneck than some new grey and green forge world bs.
But these are just my opinions i don’t think everyone should agree with them but i have raised some food for thought.

Breakneck could definitely be worked into an invasion map.

Spire is for full teams to wreck randoms, Boneyard is for full teams to play against one another and have an even game. What else do you need?
I laugh at the community map hate… Yeah, the majority of community maps are crap, because most people just throw together a few pieces, toss some weapons, and set up spawns and objectives. What you don’t see are the relatively few GOOD maps from people who take the time to playtest and tweak their maps a hundred times before calling it complete.
At this point, there’s really not much 343 can do EXCEPT add community maps (after rigorous testing by 343 to ensure quality). These maps don’t necessarily have to be on forge world. (though FW is by far the easiest map to create on, so it will be the most common one) Before they can do any of that, though, they need to drop the number of local players allowed in Invasion to maximum 2. You want Invasion updated? Support that change.
Regarding the “grey and green and blue and boring” forge world maps, I would blame that on a couple things. First, the fact that we really only have grey set pieces to use on one green-and-blue map… There really aren’t any other maps that give us the same versatility and freedoms we have in forge world to truly CREATE playspaces, as opposed to just adapting an existing one. Secondly, I would blame the tendency of most forgers to be either heavy-handed in their forging (merging 17 pieces to get the design “just right” rather than adapting and evolving the design as they work) or intentionally sparse to avoid that heavy-handedness (just a couple of bases built from two or three pieces and the rest is unaltered open ground with a handful of rocks).
Honestly, instead of camera filters they should have given us a “theme” filter so we could switch from “green grass, blue water, grey structures” to “charred rock, lava, covenant structures” or “snowy ice fields, dark water [nighttime], human structures)” etc. These filters could have just switched a rendering theme, basically, which would load textures from a different palette while leaving the actual structure of the forge pieces and geometry the same. THAT would do wonders for alleviating the “sea of grey” or overall blandness of community-made maps.
