This was revealed at a meeting for a Microsoft Quality Control evaluation board
Armor Abilities
According to UI Designer Sal Teyrick they are
Overlock- allows your shields to recharge instantly. one time use per spawn.
Firebreak - causes your closest enemy’s weapon to jam or overheat temporarily
DragLine - Releases a false heat signature to fool thermal sensors
DropCube ( Spartan Ops Only ) - allows you to carry two portable Overshield’s that can be dropped to the ground and used. once dropped they require ten seconds of wait time to charge in order to be usable by the players.
LeadCore Reduces weapon bloom by 25%
JuggerNaut - Increases player shields by 25%. lasts for 30 seconds.
Overkill - Allows you recover from Melee 25% quicker than your opponent
NOTE: These are not all of the armor abilities. Only the ones he mentioned.
He has also confirmed that the “new enemy” of Halo 4 will be called the “N’jan” or the “Guardians”.
They are a race of Angelic beings designed to enforce the Mantle and apparently many of them have aligned themselves with the forerunner known as the Master Builder.
Designer Sal Teyrick describes them as being like “dark angel ninja assassins with shimmering armor.”
-
He also mentioned that new weapons will be required to defeat them and that ammo will be scarce throughout the campaign.
-
He says that you can use the new weapons to defeat easy enemies early on, but when you “face more powerful ones later” you won’t have enough ammunition to make it past that point. In order to prevent players from being stuck at these sections, there are hidden weapon caches with more ammunition that are heavily guarded by forerunner machines. Those machines can be defeated by conventional means to access more ammo for the new weaponry.
-
Forerunner vision is described as being “A moment when your screen flashes with dots above the heads of enemies that are in your field of view for several seconds.” If the enemies move out of your field of view or are too far away this ability will not show them in your HUD.
-
The ranking system is called “Spartan Honor” and is a 1-20 system. Once you reach 20 you receive an “Honor” and you can choose to start at #1 again in order to obtain all 30 honors in the Multiplayer. The first Honor is called “Grunt Bane”.
-
There is a new giant vehicle in some multiplayer maps called a “War Sphinx”
-
There is a forerunner equivalent to the covenant ghost in multiplayer. It is more angular in design and has multiple weapons on board. It is also much more difficult to control than a ghost. It is silver in appearance and is a shielded vehicle.
-
Campaign and Spartan Ops are on Disk one. Multiplayer and “Myriad/Forgeworld” are on Disk two.
Intrepid
There is now a campaign difficulty called Intrepid.
1 - In Intrepid mode you don’t get any Respawns for the whole game.
2 - Weapons caches can be only unlocked only by hacking into the weapon lockers. you get two attempts at hacking before being locked out.
3 - upon completion of Intrepid mode you Recieve a small Gold Symbol next to your Gamer-tag in Multiplayer lobbies.
Campaign misc.
-
In the Campaign you get to play as a female forerunner named “kali”. There is a sequence where you fight MasterChief while playing as her.
-
343 Guilty Spark returns. ( somehow ??? )
-
there is a new halo ring in the game that you go too. It is described as having similarities to The campaign missions of “Metroid Prime” with narrow corridors and more of a focus on exploration than combat.
-
The reason that Precursor artifacts can’t be destroyed is because they are built out of a material that causes them to exist in Slip-Space. They also have a neurological structure in them which is why they were destroyed by the halo rings
-
The covenant at the beginning of the game are part of a commando unit tasked with executing the Arbiter. Chief must help to save him at one point in the game. This theme is played out more in Spartan Ops.
-
Spartan Ops is only for two players but two more players can observe the game in real-time.
-
Cortana has a “love interest” and it is not John.
Forgeworld/Myriad
- The new Forge-world takes place inside of Requiem and is called “Myriad”.
When creating in the new forge-world you play as the Master builder and can create detailed structures and change things like the weather( you can make it rain, have fog, ,create thunder and lighting, sandstorms and make it snow), and there are various background environment Skyboxes you can use.
-
You can modify the terrain
-
You can paint various textures on an object. There are 500 textures to choose from
-
you can create custom weapons from various parts in “Myriad” mode. These are limited to custom games only.
-
Myriad gives you the Option to play halo in 3rd Person with an OTS ( over the Shoulder ) camera.
-
Myriad pit’s Spartan IV’s versus Forerunner slave soldiers of the Master Builder. This is separate from the main “Infinity” multiplayer playlist.
You can also play against bots in Myriad.
Spartan Ops
-
Pelicans are Flyable in several missions
-
The cutscenes for Spartan Ops are being developed by an outside company working with 343i
-
There will be a level in Spartan Ops were you play as a Spartan ( not masterchief )that was present in the Battle for New Mombasa. This level will be very similar to the Campaign Mission/trailer from E3 2003 for Halo 2.
So far this is all of the info that has been revealed at the meeting.
