New IGN article

> BY LUKE KARMALI:
> Fresh details have been released about Halo 5: Guardians, including the name of the mysterious “Mirror Chief” and how both Ridley Scott’s digital series and Steven Spielberg’s project will link into the upcoming game.
>
> Speaking to Eurogamer, 343 Industries boss Bonnie Ross explained that the Spartan character revealed in the game’s announcement art is called Agent Locke, and the Scott-produced series will tell his origin story.
>
> The aim, according to Ross, is to give fans a handle on Locke “so when you end up with Halo 5: Guardians you have an idea of the background of this new character”. Fans of Master Chief needn’t worry however, as the iconic Spartan will remain the star of both the show and the upcoming game. Speaking about the journey he’s about to go on in Halo 5, Ross explained you’ll be going deeper inside his head than ever before.
>
> “He is human, he’s always been human, but at the end of Halo 4 he really is reflecting on who he is and why he exists,” Ross said. "That was very deliberate because the story we want to tell on Xbox One really is an important part and the main part of his hero’s journey. It’s more about what he’s searching for versus what the UNSC is asking him to do.
>
> “[Halo 5 is] a continuation of Master Chief’s story.”
>
> As for the Spielberg project, its story will take place concurrently with the events of the game. While Scott’s digital series will release alongside the Master Chief Collection this November, Spielberg’s live-action show should arrive in autumn 2015 at a similar time to Halo 5. Though Ross avoided getting too specific, her hints seem to suggest the projects will be inextricably linked in multiple ways.
>
> “Halo 5 is a lot about his future, but as you’ll see through all of the linear pieces we’ve woven through, his past is key to his future,” she added, cryptically.

- IGN

Sounds like they really have everything worked out with the story, which is great. It seems like ONI and UNSC want the Chief to do something morally wrong, making him choose between what is right and what is necessary.

if it’s anything like Halo 4’s story then I am fine, obviously I want it to be better and preferably less depressing.

Well at least we have an idea of what the Spielberg tv show will be about and in what time period it will be taking place in. It’ll be great to see John as the main star in this tv show and to be able to follow his journey during Halo 5 seeing as the show seems like it will be linked with Halo 5.

It’s IGN, what do you think their review would be like? It’s usual bias with a hit of sell out.

People think that this article is hinting at Chief’s death and Locke becoming the protagonist for Halo. I HOPE NOT. If that happens, I will riot.

Chief dying is a bit of a stretch. However, it is heavily foreshadowed by 343i that Chief will follow the same path as the Ur-Didact in that both of them will have been mind–Yoinked!- by the Flood.

Chief will be driven to insanity. YAY!

Call me biased, but I will NOT accept a replacement for Chief. Partner, yes.

I will gladly accept a successor to Chief.

Depressing as in the storyline wasn’t perfected well in the game or as in it was sad because John-117 lost his companion?

I agree with you on that Stream.

Same. If they replace him, I’ll lose my mind.

> That seems a bit too black/white to be put in halo main game. Not gray enough I find.

I get worried when they start touting how far into Chief’s head we’re going to get when they were doing something similar before Halo 4. The campaign for Halo 4 was the first one among the major titles that I have been bitterly disappointed in.

Nothing lasts forever, my friend…

Tell that to Bond.

Which Bond?

I’m glad that the shows and games will be linked. I’m really looking forwards to see what they did with the shows because I thought Forward Unto Dawn was quite good (being made by Machinima instead of a full-on Hollywood studio).
