Hey guys, just wanted to start a new post around positive goal setting. A bunch of people are angry, I know I have been all over the place emotion-wise with this, but I have a legitimate idea to turn stuff around that could instill confidence back into the franchise and get players back on board.
A bunch of flack surrounds the microtransactions, the costs of items, the lack of free customization, and overall poor store items we have available. This isn’t the most aggregious problem, but it is adding to the stress of everything, and sort of blankets the whole game in negativity.
So what about this: awarding a small amount of credits per match. Yes. In game currency.
343 did this in halo 5, but the whole system was bogged down by loot boxes allowing you to bypass it. Loot boxes are the most hated type of microtransaction by gamers, so it hurt players perception of the system as a whole. However, there are many merits to awarding currency. 1, you award players for playing the game and gain player support. Your most dedicated of players get rewarded for being dedicated by getting cool stuff from the shop. 2, you still earn money. Whales will be whales. There will always be some 12 year old somewhere willing and able to max out their parents’ credit card for skins. Also, because of the U.I. limitations, the store’s rotation is limited, and thus incentives regular players to still buy stuff.
I think this would be very easy to pitch right now. I’m sure 343, and even microsoft, is very aware of player frustration right now. They could easily bring this up, and it shouldn’t be too hard to implement. Maybe tie it in to weekly rewards? Maybe add weekly quests that reward credits instead of xp?
It might sound a bit predatory still, but it would be a huge step in a better direction for the game, and clear up one of the biggest issues right now.
Thoughts?
