Here’s a pic of the new vehicle:

And another: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/156/3/a/halo_4_new_elephant_by_haseoyashimora-d52dsrf.png

So I made a new poll with updated options. So far the most popular name for the new elephant-like vehicle by far has been the UNSC Mammoth, I think this name suits it very well. But the vote is not over! What do you think the name of this new vehicle? Vote above^ and if you didn’t get the chance to catch my justification on why it should be named the Mammoth I posted it below  If you have any other suggestions for names please feel free to reply. thanks!

My Justification:

> So we know that this new vehicle is obviously not an elephant (seen in halo 3 and halo wars, halo 3 odst, etc…). Almost all military ground vehicles are named after some terrestrial mammal (with exceptions like the scorpion) that has relation to the vehicle in size (and no I’m not saying that the mongoose is the size of an actual mongoose) the relationship can be observed between the change in vehicle size and the type of terrestrial mammal, for example the mongoose is smaller than the warthog in halo and in real life. So it is only natural that the name of this new vehicle would be a large terrestrial mammal that is bigger than an elephant, which at the moment doesn’t exist (on earth at least). It is also unlikely that it would be named after an aquatic species seeing as it is a terrestrial vehicles and all of the other terrestrial vehicles are named after a terrestrial mammal. But if they were to make an exception the possibility of this vehicle being named a “Whale” is quite likely. There could also be the possibility that they could name it after a prehistoric creature, again I doubt it would be reptilian so dinosaurs are excluded, but there are many prehistoric mammals to choose from. This includes many species of proboscidean that are much larger than today’s largest mammal “the African elephant” but the complexity of the names of many prehistoric creatures eliminates many options. Because the name that would be chosen is more likely to be a uncomplicated common creature(so not something like Archaeobelodon). One prehistoric mammal that does stand out above the rest is the “Mammoth”, it meets almost all qualifications for a suitable name to this new vehicle, it is a terrestrial mammal larger than an elephant, but again it is prehistoric so I don’t know the likely hood of them picking it. But it does sound quite suitable, Therefore I believe if this vehicle is truly a *NEW * vehicle it would be named a “Whale” or a “Mammoth”. What do you think sounds better? What do you think could be another possibility for it’s name?

They should at least mention thats its the predecessor to the elephant. I still don’t understand why they just can’t keep it as the elephant.

It’s called the mammoth, confirmed sometime last week by David Ellis on neoGAF.

Well this new vehicle is immense, way bigger than the elephant, and a new vehicle deserves a new name

Gimme proof and I will believe you.

Not a bad theory; it even makes sense, but I still believe that this vehicle is a newer version of the elephant and is still called the elephant.

I hope there is a level where we can run over grunts in that thing !!

We know it’s in Campaign and I believe Spartan Ops aswell. Will it be in Big Team Battle? Gosh I hope so! Imagine trying to assualt that sucker.

I think it’d be cool to pilot the cyclops and fight scarabs for a part of a mission, like the sabre mission in reach.

other holes in your vehicles named after mamals of similar size

Scorpion tank is huge and named for an arachnid
Wolverine is similar in size to a SAM (surrface to air missle) not a small creature
Vulture is a huge gunship 4x the size of the pelican, not a mammal
Pelican is a huge ship and not a mammal, its named for its transport uses
there are other halo wars vehicles that dont fit and also the escape pods have a name i cant recall that wont fit your rule you listed either

actually come to think of it has anybody heard that this picture is the new giant vehicle thats drivable in halo 4 for certain cause i think maybe it could still be the cyclops and this is just a vehicle you fight aboard or start a mission based out of, and also it looks similar to a vehicle in halo wars that functions as a mobile barracks, or was that called the elephant, yeah it was it was just an elephant variant with a top and the halo 3 elephant was the convertible version, i still think its the cyclops thats drivable

The cyclops shown in Halo wars is a robotic suit, used for repairing vehicles and is decent against infantry, it’s not a massive rover/tank/elephant thing/

but the one shown on warhouse is a huge thing and does appear to have guns as well

Mammoth would be the most suitable name. It’s a land vehicle and a lot bigger than an elephant.

I have no idea how this vehicle plays out in the halo world… But just from look of it, i hope its main purpose is transportation for infantry teammates. Put weak guns on it and make it be a transport. That sounds like a neat vehicle to add to btb sandbox

> Mammoth would be the most suitable name. It’s a land vehicle and a lot bigger than an elephant.

I completely agree with you.

Mammoth looks more refined and powerful then the Elephant, and so does a mammoth compared to a modern day elephant. While the mammoth were dangerous in every way and looked dangerous, and elephant looks big and bulky, not much more.

Here’s the proof that it is the mammoth

That doesn’t say anything bro, while yes he seems to be hinting at something, It’s name has not yet been confirmed.

do you know what this vehicle does besides provide transport… does it have turrets or any offensive capabilities.

Save the name mammoth for a scorpion heavy tank variant with dual cannons and missile pods. That would be cool.
