Halo 2 had the most competitive matchmaking system, hard to rank up and nobody liked ranking down made people play better and become better.
I suggest the new Halo have this implemented. I feel it would bring back the game to the forefront of online multiplayer games

You’re thinking of the ranking system, not the Matchmaking.
The matchmaking system find and match players together based on specific criterias, out of which rank ( hidden or not ) is one search parameter.
As far as Halo 2’s Ranking. I do think we have progressed somewhat in terms of Skill Ranking systems, that what I remember was a sort of xp system.
Neither do I believe it will make Halo the forefront of competitive multiplayer, were it to be implemented. I’d attribute that to the gameplay.

Yeah and Halo 5 has that type of ranking system anyways.
