So after a long break from Halo games, I’ve decided to try out Halo 5 and holy crap it’s an amazing game. I and my friends really try to enjoy it but we have a major issue with matchmaking. Even with Focused search, we keep on getting matched with guys lvl 9000000000 diamond all the time while I’m in silver 1. New players get their -Yoinks!- kicked so bad that it makes them quit the game before they even get started with it. I understand that the game is hard and I love the learning curve, but for the love of God, let me learn. if I select FOCUSED search I want to play against people with my rank. I don’t care if I will wait 10 hours for a match. Waiting is much more fun than not being able to do anything because I’m matched against some esport champions all the time that -Yoink!- me just because I’m a newbie. What’s the point of the focused search?
343, if you want to get ANY new players in the game, add an option to limit the search to players from the same division. I and my mates are seriously about to give up on this game.

Anyhow, I agree that the game is amazing. I myself took a long break for some time, and as a veteran Halo player and lover, it took me months to get into it. I played MCC for the longest time because of it.
To address your concerns about searching focused, I completely understand. If youre playing social, try playing ranked. Though I cannot confirm, I have heard and felt that it matches you better than social. H3 days used to be much more kind to newer players in social. Now its the opposite, or so it seems.

Sorry about Bungie. I just watched D2 video so Bungie came into my mind. ;] I should be lynched for this awful mistake @_@ I’m a halo fan since the first game and I can see 343 is doing much better job. Actually, in ranked it’s even worse. I’ve played 15 matches together with my mate in team doubles. we had 3 matches with people around the same skill level. All the other matches were against people level 120+ and platinum/diamond divisions.

Back in the day I’ve played a lot of team doubles in h3 and it worked perfectly there.
I think FOCUSED search should not even try to look for players from other divisions in ranked matches until you get to 6th stage. It’s really frustrating. I hoped to get my friends into halo and it worked…almost made them buy it…until we tried pvp matchmaking.
Just play another game that has more than 2 players. Go to the social games or play one of the games that have more players so you get teammates that are higher ranked on your team to level the out the mismatch. It’s luck of the draw in matchmaking with this game…lol.

Thanks for the tip. I don’t think it fixes the issue though. I also know pro players don’t like to have noobs on their team. It’s very often that I get bullied by my teammates (they run after me and shoot me until I got my shields down, so the enemy player can easily take me down).
Bottom line is that I still believe the only way to let new players enjoy the game is to rework the FOCUSED search, so it will really be FOCUSED even if it means waiting an hour for a match. If I would want to play against the elite, I could always switch to BALANCED search.
I would really love to see Halo 5 get more population, but with the way it currently works, I don’t see it happening.
Currently there’s been an influx of new players. Almost all the guys in my Spartan Company went on to other games after we got the Achilles armor set. The population seems to be pretty low right now. 343 after a whole bunch of complaining by the players about mismatches finally gave us focused, balanced and expanded. It helped some, but when there’s not a large pool of players in the same rank you get what is available. I agree with waiting for a match, It would at least make the game balanced. Unfortunately everyone complained about having to wait too long for matches. That just what I’ve observed the last 2 yrs. What I said above was how I dealt with it so I could at least have fun some of the time. Properly matched games seem to be few.

Now that Halo 5 is in the game pass, I think 343 has a chance to get more people on board if they pull it off right. Solution: make focused search REALLY FOCUSED, and if someone doesn’t want to wait, switch it to balanced. Right now it’s like choosing between hard, hard and hard.

Very rarely do see the devs. Usually they appear when they add something new.

This phenomenom happens from time to time. I’m playing mostly HCS playlist and I’m Gold 3 and I have been fortunate enough to have just platinums on my games and I can put a game against them (couple of diamonds here and there sure). Thou I played one free-for-all match first time and one guy just destroyed all the players. From after match stats turned out he was champion 1 and all the others were gold or platinum??? Don’t know why that happened.
The dev don’t do anything its like they try to put a bandaid on a bullet wound if you want to have a good fun time playing halo 5 either play custom games warzone firefight and some of the action sack games are not horrible 90% of the rest of time your stuck playing against players who are almost invincible that shoot faster run faster lunge farther
