I think constantly about how to improve Halo mechanics and I want to list them here in the forums.
-
Rapid Melee; Melee traditionally is slow with high recovery after the impact. A rapid melee allows you to melee multiple times by tapping the melee button killing in 4 hits and two at the back. You can counter this by ducking, jumping, or thrusting out of range. - Heavy Melee; briefly holding the melee button triggers a heavy melee killing in two hits and one in the back, and a longer range but has a longer start up and has a higher recovery then the rapid melee. - Stagger; stagger occurs when your shield is down and are hit with a rapid melee, a Spartan effected by stagger is briefly frozen giving time to be killed by a opponent. It takes 2 rapid hits to take down a Spartans shield the 3rd triggers the stagger. One heavy takes down a shield then a rapid will stagger. - “New” Assassination; Assassinations are traditionally optional in Halo and are purely cosmetic and usually don’t provide an advantage in a competitive scenario over the backstab which is the better option. If we remove the backstab and replace it with a faster assassination we can finally see the mechanic used in more competitive scenarios. The “new” assassination no longer puts the player into 3rd person due to it’s speed. It can be used on Spartans facing towards the opponent under one condition; can they be killed in a single hit. If an opponent’s shield is down and Spartan attacks them with a heavy melee the animation will change to an assassination over a hit even when facing toward the opponent. Its not instant, you still must briefly hold the button however it doesn’t have to be done with a heavy melee either. If the player is at half health with no shield a single light melee triggers an even faster assassination. - Energy Bar; Energy can be spent on thrusts, sprint, or melees. If you sprint your energy slowly dips down. Thrusts take energy as well removing about a quarter. Rapid melees use a small amount while Heavies use more. Without energy you can no longer do these. But don’t worry energy recharges very fast. - “New” Driving Options; Optional first person, break, reverse. - “New” Melee Weapon Options; Using an energy sword you can now rapidly swing killing in two hits and one in the back, and a single hit when held down for a heavy swing; the weapon still has its staple long range it just acts a little more like an actual sword instead of a gun. The Hammer has a rapid melee and a heavy as well. rapid kills in two/one in the back and heavy in one. Rapid attacks create small gravity blasts while heavies make large. - Clash; When two energy swords are hit at the same time it triggers a “clash”, during which both players must mash the attack button, the winner destroys the opponents shield or kills the opponent. - “New” Hijacking; If you attach your self to an opponents vehicle you can choose whether to melee them to death or pull them out and take the vehicle, or choose to switch to a different seat or weapon on the opponents vehicle. The opponent can get out of the vehicle while being hijacked before being pulled out. - “Super” Thrust; Holding the thrust button allows you to boost further than a normal thrust at the cost of more energy. While holding you are frozen still until fully charged you can aim in any direction; front, left, right, back. Doing this mid air or during a jump causes you to freeze mid air until charged giving the option to ground pound or thrust to a side. This costs a significant amount of energy - Jump "Boost’’; Holding the jump button on the ground charges your jump making it higher, pressing jump while in air allows you to hover and aim freely, holding jump in air allows you to achieve slightly more high after a brief amount of charge costing a significant amount of charge. - “Bash”; To hit an enemy with a “bash” sprint till you reach maximum speed the thrust forward, this shares the same effect as a Spartan charge just without pressing melee. - Weapon Assassination; If you are within melee range and the opponent can die within a single melee if you shoot at the enemy a unique quick “weapon assassination” is triggered. - “Smooth Landing”; If you fall from a significant height you will stagger when you land, unless you crouch right before you land triggering a roll quickly recovering you back to your feet. I would really like to see these ideas implemented into Halo game in the future, if you have any ideas please share them.
