*New* Halo 4 Radar System!

Hey everyone, I’m surprised no one ever brought this up, and I haven’t since I was waiting for the screen shots to not be “leaked” anymore. Anywho, onto the topic.

The radar system in halo has never been perfect. You could never tell whether someone was below you, above you, or on the same level as you. Halo Reach tried to change this by having the red dot turn solid dark red if the enemy was on the same level as you, faded red if it was below you, or red that dragged when they were above you. However during heated gameplay moments this proved to be confusing. I introduce you to… Halo 4’s radar.

In Halo 4 the enemy as well as friendlies are no longer a red dot but an arrow EX: http://halofanforlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Screen-shot-2012-04-17-at-11.59.57-PM.png

Now, the rest is quite simple. If your enemy or friendly is above you…the arrow points up, it they are on the same level it looks like the picture above, and if they are below you the arrow points down EX: http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/screenshots/Halo4/Halo4_Multiplayer-Wraparoun.jpg

So its so simple! I’m so happy they came up with an easy solution! What do you all think? Discuss!

Don’t really like the arrow tbh. It’s not a bad idea at all just I wish it was a bit thicker and not so skinny. I feel dumb for saying it because it’s such a small and useless detail though.

I see what you mean, and hey aren’t we all perfectionists? I guess the arrows could stand to be thicker, they are a bit hard to see, and in the heat of gameplay they need to REALLY stick out.

I’m so hot right now… I need to get cOLD.

I’m sorry but this has been been talked about before in other topics long ago.

Ps: I really do like this new system of radar.

I honestly come on here ALL the time and have NEVER seen a topic on this. So I’m sorry for re-posting, but I’m sure there are MANY people who haven’t seen this though; and I’m glad you like the new system

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: 343 is changing too much just for the sake of change. They are trying to fix something that wasn’t broken. I liked the old system better.

There are several pics with the red and green dots being used like this one for example.

Maybe they use arrows for up close and dots for farther away? IDK.

I may agree with you that they do this on some things, but I think this was a good change the old system always got me mad cause I just want to know where they are! Haha

It’s not a radar…

Wow that BR and DMR looks amazing!

Interesting, but I think they must have changed it since, that picture was from an earlier build.

Meh I found it a challenge to find exactly where they were in the first trilogy. Sometimes Reach’s system even tricked you so I preferred the old way a bit better.

> It’s not a radar…

Radar definition:

A system for detecting the presence, direction, distance, and speed of aircraft, ships, and other objects

> It’s not a radar…

um…yes it is…

As long as the radar is functional, I will like it. I think radar use is one of the little things that seperate the good from the average. If you can pinpoint a grenade at one’s feet before you even see them, you’re gonna have a good time.

Tell me, if it is a radar, then why don’t people who crouch show up on the “radar”? Radar uses radio waves to detect objects and other things, so even if a player was crouching, the “radar” would still pick them up.

It’s been stated numerous times both in the games and in the extended fiction. It’s a Motion Tracking Sensor. It tracks movement. That’s why when players either stop moving or crouch and move they don’t show up.

Tell me, why the F do you always post meaningless comments like these? Arguing semantics doesn’t get any one anywhere. You know exactly what he means, yet you choose make an ambiguous comment based on his imperfect choice of wording.

I’ve never noticed this or seen any topic to do with it. not cOLD

i think its funny and kinda nice that they cater to color-blind people with the different shapes for allies and enemies.

The fact that 343 keeps changing things that don’t need changing (i.e. the dots) is really annoying. I find Halo Reach’s radar (inb4 Motion Tracker) to work fine in most cases for height-wise battles. No problems, why change it?
