Okay, we know that the orb that scans Master Chief is a Cryptum, my question is, if The Didact or Faber or whoever is in it is the ‘Ancient Evil’ then surely he could have killed the defenseless Chief there and then? If he was the Evil then he would kill his opposition without hesitating. This leads me to assume that the Ancient Evil will be the Precursors, and the reason The Didact has not exited his Cryptum is because his body is being regenerated and he is preparing for battle, possibly the Precursors?
This is obviously just a theory, I have read the Forerunner novels so I’m educated on them and the situation, so feel free to bash my theory or whatever! The only reason I posted this is because no one on the forums (that I’ve seen) has brought this up, so I thought I’d examine the situation and throw it in the mix
Actually I brought up that the Cryptum may have a built in device that restores his body like a normal vat would over the course of several days. As well as him not attacking the Chief being the reason why I don’t think he’s evil, and I assume its the Didact in that Cryptum.
That’s a pretty reasonable idea. In the book Cryptum, the Didact spends several days recovering once he’s ejected from his cryptum. It does stand to reason that if he finds it’s time to stretch and walk with his feet once more, he may need some time to recover first – it took him days to recover after a mere 1000 years. This time it’s 100,000 years.
Exactly, if The Didact was evil he could have easily crushed Chief with the Cryptum (his body wouldn’t be battle-ready, obviously). I dunno, I’m new to the forums, well, forums in general so I just wanted to get involved And I saw someone on another topic say that the Precursors are too much of a mystery and potential antagonist not to be involved in the next trilogy, and I completely agree! Learning about the Forerunner in the recent novels was fantastic, but the Precursors have even more mystery around them.
I think the Didact, or whoever is in the Cryprum needs the Chief. Because we know that a Forerunner of some sort, and Humans with the right geas is needed to open a Cryptum. Perhaps the one in the Cryptum needs the Chief to open the Cryptum, so he obviously has to stay alive. But then why would the Prometheans attack him… unless the one in the Cryprum lost control of them for some reason?
And yeah that’s true. I just think that The Didact wouldn’t be gallavanting around like that while his body was still regenerating, because he knows that humans are a formidable force. Plus then he boosts off to ‘inspect’ the Infinity somewhat. Maybe he’d indentifying the ship/race? To see if they can help him fight, I dunno
