New Grifball Updates (Some Feedback)

Well Today Apparently 343 had a secret Update to the Playlist without any notification.

If you played it you may have noticed the new settings and maps.

Some “Intellect” decided it would be a great idea to make Grif. a 5 win point instead of its awesomely cool 3 points. They didn’t stop there. They went ahead and slowed down the grifball carrier probably to 75% speed and uped the jumping to either 110% or 125%.

Not only has the Grif. carrier been slowed down but also weakened. I could only get an overkill with the ball. The grav. hammers would kill me in one swing. Then the grav. hammers feel uneven with damage and range.

But wait there’s more. A new system of loadouts was designed so the player can evade or run with sword/Hammer. Then not only can the player run but also the Grif. carrier as well. I’m shooting blind but i might have seen the infamous “Forsaken Mango” evading with the Grif. which indeed was frustrating.

The “New” maps are just terrible compared to the over-used boxy feel of Grifball. More boxes and grey walls. Excluding the newly built Foundry which took my breathe away.
The map designers should learn from the cool designs in Blargball.

Basically i don’t enjoy the updates. 343 is trying to revive and live in the Halo days which can never be achieved again. I loved Grif. how it was, but if where’re keeping the updates PLEASE MAKE THE GRIFBALL CARRIER HAVE AN OVERSHIELD.

Thanks for the feedback!

I can help answer some of your questions and concerns about the update:

First, playing all five rounds was an oversight, and we are asking 343 to change it back to ending at three points as soon as possible. This change was only made to Vanilla Grifball and Grifball Dash, though. If you play Blargball or Jetpack Grifball, the game still ends when one team hits three points.

The carrier strength, shields, and hammer damage are all unchanged in this update. The jump height and gravity settings in Vanilla Grifball were tweaked, however, to make it easier to hammer jump and launch, much like it was in Halo 3.

Regarding the runner’s speed, in Vanilla Grifball he is still at 150% speed, the same as it has always been. In Grifball Dash, however, the runner moves at 120% speed, to compensate for the fact that you can sprint and evade with the bomb.

Mango loves to roll with the bomb (a move we call the Barrel Roll). If you would like to learn how to do it, check out this tutorial video on GrifballHub.

The Vanilla Grifball courts pretty much all have the same layout and just vary in looks. We like to put the crazier courts with different gameplay mechanics in the second and third voting slots so folks can always play basic Grifball if they want and no one is forced to play the more out-there gametypes and maps.

If you have any other questions or more feedback, please let us know! We hope you give the playlist another shot.

Here’s my two cents: Please for the Love of all that is…Halo, LOL, get rid of the 5 Rounds no matter what! That helps to Encourage Stat Farmers! It’s bad enough when people grab the ball and intentionally Force the round to go to the last 10 seconds of sudden death then attempt to score.

Like last night, my friend, and I were in a match where I clearly heard two people on the other team: Person A: So, should I score? Person B: No dude hold on we’re killing people hold the ball till the end…

If that’s not a direct violation I don’t know what is.

Aside from that here’s my second thought.

I understand some want new GB variants and that’s fine, some, myself included, Like and Enjoy the Good Old Fashioned Variant, Minus the 5 rounds no matter what. By all means keep Evolved and what not as an option but please make Old Fashioned, Non-Evolved or anything, Regular 3 points to win, “No Dead Rubbers” GB as the First Option!

Now after my ranting here’s a positive note.

The new maps, they look nice  but please take out the ridges…

Thanks

I personally enjoy the the extra 2 rounds. It makes the game last longer than usual and I think that’s important when it involves a playlist with a population that isn’t always high enough to get quick search times, and I would rather spend more time playing than searching.

In regards to people concerned about it helping stat padders I assure you it doesn’t matter at all. If they are able to get you into a spawn trap then they only need a goal or 2 and will simply let the time expire to get all 5 rounds, it won’t make it any easier.

Well for a first, thanks for the support on 3 win points.Though Vanilla Grif. was the only playlist that stayed true to H3’s playlist. But now apparently it’s ruined beyond recovery.

To that,H3’s Grif. had only one Minor problem…Jump clutch or as i like to call it “The Batman”.Now,they have the “Barrel Roll” with the Grif. which Mr.Goody “Mango” used to outrun from everyone. This should be a type of cheat since it denies a fair game. Not to add but the maps are the size of a football field, by the time you reach the bomb plant everyone already spawned.

The way i felt the Grav. Hammer and Grif. carrier was absolutely terrible. I always carry the ball for my “Team” or at least try to. So for me, its bad running slow and jumping higher; makes me feel like i’m playing Blargball. It’s an fairly-well designed gametype but it’s not Grifball.

This is what should be happening when i get the ball…
Me Using the Ball
You can see how i use the jump as an advantage.
But now it’s just not going to happen.

Thanks for the heads-up. Love Grifball, will have to check out the new gameplay. I like the idea of a slower/weaker Grif, mainly because of the host advantage involved in the gametype. It wouldn’t be bad on a neutral connection, but when you get in a bad host-advantage game, it’s like Grif is a God (And the whole joke of Grifball, was that Grif was SUPPOSED to be taking a beating not dishing them out).

I love to barrel roll. It’s something I’ve been doing for over a year now in customs when I play in the GGL (grifballhub’s grifball league). I was very excited when it came into matchmaking so of course I was going to use it, and I don’t feel sorry about it either. I can assure you that the barrel roll is not a cheat nor does it make the game unfair. Everyone can do it, not just me. And it’s easily defend able if you’re willing to put your hammer away and pay attention to what the bomb runner is doing.

I don’t know how I became “infamous” but I assure you I’m not that bad of a person. But I guess that’s a matter of personal opinion. (By the way, nice t-bagging by you and your friends in that game. Really classy of you.)

Community playlist. They threw something in the community liked.

What was done was fair. Your stat padding however, was not.

love always,
One of the winners of that game.

I don’t play Griff ball, because I did not like it before. Sounds even worse now. Anyway I might check it out to see how it actually turned out.

Well if you noticed the big Half-pipe map we were playing then you would conclude that that’s impossible to catch up.

Not to say the Grif. Carrier is like a toothpick agaisnt Grav. Hammers.

P.S. Try to pick better teammates; you might go positive next time.

We weren’t stat padding. We were just Tactically Holding the Ball in a safe location.

What we did was “Fair”.

This is funny to me because the score says “3-1” for our team. I’m pretty sure that’s all that matters when it comes to the “Win” category. Also, if you believe that going positive is the only way of winning I feel very sorry for you. Anyway, this discussion is over so might I suggest the mods lock this thread since it’s pointless to continue on from here.

This isn’t H3;winning is dead.
Ta-Ta Mr.Mango

Do what you will in game, but play nice in the forums or don’t play nice at all.

If anyone is not playing the gametype as intended (holding the ball and stat padding, team killing, etc) avoid them and move on, if they’re that irritating, take the time to see if there is anything offensive in they’re profile to report them for.

There’s no excuse for not properly playing the game.
