As I’ve played around in Forge and Custom Games, i’ve notice that there’s a lack of options when it comes to objective gametypes. Sure, we have Assualt, CTF, and Invasion, but these are really quite limiting; with the exception of speedflag (where the flag is on your back), it’s impossible to get to the objective with everyone shooting. I know the reason for this is strategy, and I’m not suggesting this as a replacement but rather an alternative.
Instead of planting a bomb, there could be an object you need to destroy–with or without a bomb. This has already been done, in a way, with the second phase of Invasion Breakpoint. The walls of the lab get blown off, allowing access to the core. This same type of thing would work, but without the bomb.
Say there’s a gate you must destroy to gain access to the next area. Instead of going through the pain of grabbing a bomb and walking very slowly all the way to the objective, only to get sniped as soon as you get there, you and your teamates could make use of the vehicles and power weapons at your disposal to destroy the gate.
To build one of these, you could just place any object through Forge and use the Properties menu to set it to a destuctable item. You could change how much total health is has, how resistant it is, and (to prevent spamming a DMR or other “normal” weapon) what types of damage can affect it. For example: Momentum (slamming into with a vehicle for a very flimsy gate), small arms fire (for DMRS, Assault Rifles, etc. etc.), light vehicle fire (Warthog turrets, Falcon Turrets, Ghost plasma weapons, Banshee plasma weapons, Wraith and Scorpion turrets), heavy vehicle fire (Wraith, Scorpion, Revenant, Rocket/Gauss Hog shots and Banshee bombs), heavy arms fire (Rocket Launcher, Splaser, FRG, etc.), and any combination of the above.
For the sake of custom games (who knows what people would come up with), nothing would be automatic, and it wouldn’t be an option menu like the existing “Vehicle Use” menu–it would be a checklist and you check everything you want to damage the object. For further customization, each seperate weapon category could have seperate hitpoints that don’t contribute to the overall health–for example, a gate could take forever to get killed by a Scorpion, but a Ghost boosting could destroy it immediately (I have no idea why anyone would ever do this, but hey! This is the Halo community–we make chess, skee-ball, hockey, soccer, and everything else!
