New Gamemode: Team Defense

For the longest time I’ve been looking for the most tactical gamemode from any game. I’ve seen examples from Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Day of Defeat, and other games. Halo has a good sense of tactics but it should be pushed further where it brings a new sense of a futuristic tactical shooter. Now leave Halo 4 as it is but this gamemode should bring a new type of gameplay.

Instead of the random spawning actually have a specific spot where each team spawns (for Matchmaking because it will always vary for how the creator of a custom map is).

Now there are two types of Team Defense: Complete Domination and Neutral Defense. Complete Domination is where 1 team attacks and the other defends but they still have to do objectives. Neutral is where both teams attacks and defends and still have to do objectives.

There can also be a Flood version but they can only attack!

The maps can always vary but for Matchmaking the maps should be the size of Sandtrap or a little bigger and should only be for 16 players (more players is no problem :D).

The Objective System:
Your main objective is to defend your Headquarters inside your base. The Headquarters is a machine around the size of a table. Plus this item is forgeable so if you make a map you can end up putting it out in the open if you want! If your Headquarters is destroyed you automatically lose.

There are secondary objectives in the whole map which will appear after a certain spawntime is reached. You can forge secondary objectives and put them into the map and put a certain time at which they will spawn and you can also have multiple secondary objectives spawn at the same time if you wish (again this will definately vary on Customs or the maps 343 plan to include in the gamemode for Matchmaking) which will mean you can have 20 Secondary Objectives during the course of a 15 minute game. If the secondary objectives aren’t completed they will remain there even if the new objectives spawn. You also have the option to make an objective exclusive to the Red or Blue team.
Secondary Objectives include:

  1. Bombing a Communications Device (Exclusive Objective for 1 team). When bombing a Communications device like for example the Blue Communications Device, the Blue Team who died during that time will not spawn for 20 seconds.

  2. Taking control of a Capture Point

  3. Snatching Scientific Experiments and bringing them back to your base

  4. (Leave the rest of the Secondary Objectives for 343 to decide!)

The Resource System:
Finishing Secondary Objectives or killing enemies grant you resources so you have the option to not even do the objectives but doing objectives will give you more resources. Everyone starts with AR and Pistol but after you gather more resources your team unlocks loadouts, vehicles, gadgets or equipment, and drop-pods. With Custom Games you can also decide what each loadout has, and the order you can unlock items. However not everyone will get the unlockable items because of set limitations. For example with loadouts (if there was 5) only a few people can pick a certain loadout and if all the spots are filled they will have to pick another class. Like the Sniper only 2 people can pick that loadout in the team. Plus there needs to be an LMG for better defending! :wink:

You can decide if you don’t want a Resource System where all the loadouts, vehicles, etc don’t have to be unlocked but there will still be a set limitation for everything so everyone doesn’t end up being Snipers with Tanks.

Conclusion:
This whole game is highly dependent on tactic/defending and will not be your ordinary Halo gamemode. Spawns are not random so it can give an incentive to defend easier. Tell me what you think and should it be our new Halo Gamemode?!

A combination of Halo Wars with Halo: Reach’s credit system (loosely)… lets go one step further: Spartans versus elites with flood “containment centers” being released. Think Grunt War/Flood War videos from Halo: CE LAN days and your on the right track…

Overall, this would be a great idea without my suggestions.

You sir have earned a sticker.

This a great idea and it seems to me basically for the secondary objectives you want ivasion slayer but with a actually objective to complet but rewards would be the same.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I wanna keep this thread up because it is a pretty cool idea IMO and I want more people to see it for feedback and to hopefully this this idea more popular

Not really there isn’t phases anymore… plus now your defending something also if your playing Neutral like the HQ. There can be many side objectives, and the reward system is better and you actually unlock more depending on how your team plays

I like the idea of an objective being to destroy something–WITHOUT a bomb. Think of the possibilities!

this is a good idea but isint there a game type smiler to this in section 8? not
