I think some of the features 343i is bringing into to Forge are cool but it still has a lot of limitations.
There are only 3 forge maps I believe, not that bad but it still has a lot of limitations.
Also Halo 4 forge (from what I have seen) looks like a re-skinned forge from Halo Reach with a snap tool and some new boundaries. Reach forge was cool but it had many limitations.
I was hoping for a limitless map editor that allowed us to create things like trees, lakes, elevate terrain, etc.
The current forge is good but it is far behind compared to other map editors for some other big games.
Halo Reach took Halo 3’s forge to the next level but Halo 4’s seems kind of stagnant to the Halo Reach version.
> The Xbox simply can not handle a full map editor on the scale of halo 4. Wait till halo 5.
Yeah you are probably right but I think the intention of Halo 4 forge has always been to be like Reach’s.
There are some cool ideas added and probably many more secret things coming but it still looks to me like Reach’s forge and the fact it is only on 3 maps makes it actually more limited than Halo Reach was.
I atleast hope we can change weapon spawns and other things on other maps.
I think the lack of ability to manipulate more maps for replay ability is going to be a crippling blow like in Reach how people were bored with forge world.
My question is… What will fully inclosed maps look like? With forge objects casting shadows fully inclosed maps may be a bit too dark.
BTW, I’m okay with the limitations. I guess it’s what I expected. I limitless map editor (PC style) would devalue DLC. For that reason I do not expect a full map creator to be on consoles any time soon.

I am excited for shadow casting and I would imagine you could make a fully dark map in an enclosed space.
I actually don’t think a near limitless map editor would.
Have different DLC maps in different terrains like ice, jungle, etc. Then people can buy the maps and have manipulate the local terrain to make a unique map they couldn’t make by using the other forge maps.
I would think a full map editor would want people to buy more maps to manipulate.

I said on the scale of halo 4. Its has far better graphics and detail in its map editor than far cry’s map creator. Halos scale is much larger and the with the other things on that one disc, the Xbox wouldn’t be able to handle it.

> Man the Farcry 2 editor was so confusing. As long as the palate is expanded in Halo 4 ,from grey Forerunner I am happy.
That is a good thing, Far Cry 2 let you do whatever you wanted. I really don’t see why 343i couldn’t of done this with Halo 4.
My guess is they recycled forge from Reach and edited it for Halo 4.
I think in order for Forge to evolve, we need to be on level with games like farcry that allow infinite possibilities. hen the player has that much power to create, it makes the game have a huge replay value and 343i will keep having fans come back again and again.
A better Forge would have to be very carefully designed. I know 343i spent years on Halo 4, but to me it’s obvious that they mainly focused on what they consider the core of their game - War Games, Spartan Ops, Campaign. The fact that they had Certain Affinity design Halo 4’s Forge mode says this to me. To be blunt, yes, it seems kind of tacked on as far as cohesiveness with the rest of the experience goes.
But yeah, hopefully with the next generation, we get a much-improved Forge, the return of Firefight, etc.

I got the same feel with them not including FF.
To me, Forge “3.0” looks like a 2.1, like if Bungie added DLC to Reach’s forge. It isn’t bad per say but it just isn’t much evolution for forge. I agree that 343i seems to of focused more efforts on new things rather than things like forge.
I think it is kind of confusing too considering forge was one of the biggest things that kept Halo 3 and Halo Reach alive because they allowed us to change how we played and why we play.
> To be fair, it’s a map editor and not a map creator. Hopefully we’ll see a map creator in Halo 5 but don’t take my word on it.
I think the smart thing to of done would be to make maps different biomes.
Don’t let the player be able to change the biomes, just let them be able to alter the terrain in any way.
Like have a grasslands halo ring biome to a jungle or a beach.
Then, as DLC, create new biome themed maps for the player to purchase.
With this strategy, 343i has to spend really less time on maps rather just make a map a certain biome and from the there the player can create their own experience.

That would be great as long as the objects fit in with the terrain.
The nice thing would be to have a seperate forge disk, or “editors disk”.
You would create everything on that disk, it would be testable of course… Then you could be able to import those maps to your harddrive to be used in the actual Halo 4 game. Since its a whole other disk, we would basically have no limitations.
I would say the next big leap for Forge will be on the next gen console.
They could put a lot more into it if they wanted to in terms of content but that would mean losing a lot of the rest on the disk e.g Multiplayer/Campaign.
