I don’t know what it is but I enjoyed the odst firefight way more than reachs firefight. Maybe its because you had weaker stats in odst making it a little more challenging. Anyone else or is it just me.
ODSTs Firefight was more strategic compared to Reach, but a lot of other things consolidated to why Reach’s FF simply isn’t as fun as ODSTs.
-
Bloom: Nope, I’m not going to complain about spamming, I’m going to complain about how hard it is to aim, with bloom, while lagging, with four players, it made it really hard, however, in Halo 3: ODST, the lack of bloom made it a lot easier to aim.
-
The lack of ODST style rounds: In ODST, every round would activate X skull then it would activate a permanent skull for the next Set, however, in Reach, this isn’t possible, making it harder to reproduce a harder, strategic approach.
There are many others I am sure others would contribute for as well.

Sounds about right
Its to bad that the new skulls that they made for Halo CEA couldnt have been added in. They did reuse a bunch but there were around 4 i think that were new and should have been added in
You guys are bang on the money!
But here’s another thing… BRUTES! (specifically Jumppacks and Chieftains)
In Halo 3/ODST they were much funner enemies. They were much more interesting. There were different types that specialised in different equipment, weapons and tactics. They looked so much cooler too. The Chieftains in Halo 3/ODST were actually scary.
And the bad -Yoink- soundtrack of ODST was super sweet as well.
You know what Reach has that ODST didn’t that solves all of your issues? Options, options, options! Well, except for music and aesthetics. And I would say that firefight could definitely use dedicated servers for online play.
ODST was more fun for the sheer difficulty of surviving wave after wave of increasingly harder enemies, while reach is all about ‘surviving’ and having fun.
Even Firefight Limited in Reach is a breeze compared to ODST’s standard Firefight.
I loved playing ODST FF, it was intense.

Options are nice, but they can’t solve much. Reach can’t even have different skulls for advancing sets.
Its just that FF on ODST what so much better for me only because of the maps and because it was a challenge and because you could play for as long as you wanted well only until you lost your last life.
plus i could use the Chopper which could take down those annoying buggers
Firefight is a game of survival.
ODST enhanced that survival mode feel by making your player weaker, having the rounds never-end which added endurance into the mix, etc. All of this encouraged you to take advantage of the fact that you had teammates to help each other survive together. The fact that you had to ration ammo and health was just icing on the cake.
Reach took that and turned it into an arcade mode where the players are now powerful Spartans again but now with added abilities, unlimited ammo, etc. to help you out even more which doesn’t force you to lean on your teammates and work together. Now you could just run and gun without anyone’s help. The rounds would eventually come to an end so basically it was just about who could get the most points in the set amount of time.
Basically, Reach just took ODST’s awesome game mode and turned it into another free-for-all match.
The reality is that Firefight is a survival mode and should be treated like so, not just some other matchmaking gametype.
ME 3 MP wave mode > Reach FF
At least in ODST it was a challenge; you actually had to “survive”
.
Now “surviving” means just fire your rockets and die without penalty with stat boosts. I would hardly call not raising the perfection commendation a punishment.
ODST firefight had it’s levels designed like a multiplayer level, then had enemies come in, and that worked REALLY well. Think about it: You had to memorize weapon spawns, you had extra pistol/SMG ammo in the main base in case you needed it. It was all around more strategic than Reach.
Reach POINTS OUT the power weapon ordinance drops, instead of refueling ammo of the primary two guns (Should be AR and magnum ammo), it gives the weapon box of unlimited ammo. In ODST, you had X amount of ammo to refill for your guns. Reach gives you either infinite, or only your beginning mags.
They do need to have an option for the old school rules.
My problem with new FF is unlimited lives and ammo, but no with limited time. These factors eliminate pretty much all the challenge and skill out of FF.
Most players ran in fear from Brute Chieftan’s if they didn’t have a plasma pistol ready. They’re a joke in Reach FF.

Not true! You, my friend, need to look over the firefight settings! As long as you are playing with your friends, you can play it almost any way you could ask for!
All of you seem to have not noticed how many options you have when designing Firefight gametypes! You can even make custom skulls! Sure, you do have to play with your friends or alone if you are going to use that gamemode, but the options are there!
Reach has options, but that doesn’t mean they’re good ones. I can make my own game type for custom firefight, but unless all your friends like to play firefight playing solo just isn’t the same. In reach it says Infinite Ammo, Infinite Awesome. I disagree; it’s so easy and hardly anybody will want to play custom firefight because anything you do, anything you use or kill won’t be recorded into the commendations. As painstakingly as it is to increase Riflin’ Through past gold, I still want what I do to be recorded. I want it to be more than just who can kill themselves and use a FRG and rocket launcher as much as possible from the start of the game, it needs to be harder. I see community made maps in matchmaking all the time. I know it’s because matchmaking has a much higher population than firefight, but there should be options in firefight arcade for gametypes outside of ‘unlimited awesome’. Unlimited awesome would be if you gained the Hero medal in a 4 person game on legendary with mythic, tilt, and tough luck on. You know what reach doesn’t have? Good firefight maps. They’re all the same, enemies come from 1 or 2 directions, and it’s always a holdout in 1 or 2 locations. I want to see FireFight on Forge World. Take some of the multiplayer maps and use it for firefight, or different campaign settings. An extremely limited but challenging idea would be to have firefight on a section of exodus - when you need to take the jetpack across the gap after the first battle and subsequent elevator ride. That spot could also be used for an Invasion map.
There used to be firefight limited. I loved it, but I guess not enough people played it. They even had FF limited legendary. As usual, these things are killed by Halo’s continually degrading community.
What I am saying is, " Yeah, I miss the challenge too, but simply not enough people apparently want the same things we do."

Exactly! Limited was basically Firefight ODST, but the population would drop to 50 people most nights and never exceed 300 in the day. I played it as much as I could at the time, but fact is no one played it, and that’s why it’s gone.
I agree with many people in this thread though: it was a huge mistake to make custom firefight games not count towards your commendation progress. Sure people will jack the system to achieve their 100% commendation, but I don’t care if they do that. Doesn’t affect me in the least. Not letting me play custom Firefight for commendations DOES affect me, and is incredibly frustrating.
