New Equipment Ideas

Now that equipment is back, I’d like to share my ideas for equipment that could be added, perhaps in DLC after launch. Feel free to add your own ideas.

  • Banished Mortar Cannon: Similar to the real mortar cannons we know today, but with a Brute/Covenant twist. Toss it on the ground and it automatically assembles into a ready position, pointing towards the direction the player was facing when the item was thrown. Fires a red Wraith-like arching plasma shot. Can be reloaded by throwing plasma grenades into a chute at the back of the cannon. Breaks down after firing three shots, so one free shot upon first use and 2 plasma grenades for full use. Fragile, can be easily destroyed with minimal gunfire. - Proximity Mines: Similar to the Brute landmine in Halo 3, but these can be stuck to walls and ceilings as well. Explodes with spikes that ricochet like a spike grenade. - Rear Defense Shield: Creates an overshield effect on the back of the player, making them immune to assassinations until the shield effect depletes via enemy attacks or the time runs out. Lasts for a short time, maybe 10 seconds, give or take. Charged plasma pistol blasts to any part of the player will deplete the shield. - Plasma Aura: A charged plasma aura extending about to a Spartan’s arm’s reach around the player, which will drop the shields of any player that comes into contact with it. The player using it is unaffected. Useful in close quarters, lasts about 10 seconds give or take. Essentially the player becomes a walking Power Drain, but with less range than the standard power drain. - Overdrive: Increases power output and force amplification of Mjolnir; the player gains minor sprint speed increase and slightly more jump height. Player becomes immune to splatters from vehicle collisions, and can sprint into a player or vehicle to impart force and minor damage, shoving players and potentially knocking the vehicle off course. Limited effectiveness against massive vehicles like tanks and wraiths. The player is not slowed down by making contact with other players, instead other players are displaced when contact is made. Melee strikes on boarded vehicles are twice as powerful. Shields remain unaffected, so while a Spartan is immune to splatters, the impact will still damage their shields. Lasts about 25 seconds. - Hardlight Barrier: Forerunner artifact, similar to the Covenant portable covers, except it covers a wider and taller area and no projectiles can pass through either side. Rockets, Plasma Aura, or a charged plasma pistol blast will destroy it in one hit. Best used for area denial in close quarters. - Ammo Pouches: Hold up to 50% more ammo. Found on map, appears on your character. Cannot be retrieved from your dead body, however can be swapped for other equipment, in which case another player can pick it up. - Wrist-Mounted Flamethrower: Occupies the slot that the grappling hook uses. Limited fuel/ammo, best used in bursts in close quarters. - Wrist-Mounted Shotgun, AKA the Cragshot: Occupies the wrist slot, fires a single, wide-spread, short range shotgun blast. One shot only. Best used in emergencies in close quarters. One-shot-kill range is almost point blank, damage drops off greatly beyond about 5 feet from the Spartan. Think of it as a single-shot Mauler mounted on the wrist. Large and obvious to spot on a player. - Wrist-Mounted Tracker Shot: Occupies the wrist slot, fires a tracking node or bot that, when it successfully lands, tags a player or vehicle on your HUD and those of your teammates. Lasts about 20, maybe 30 seconds. - Wrist-Mounted Energy Blade: Occupies the wrist slot. The same kind of wrist blades Elites used in Halo: Reach, either lifted directly from Elites or reverse-engineered technology made by the UNSC. Extends Melee range slightly and increases melee damage by 50%. Limited battery. Maybe 4 or 5 hits, max. Energy Swords negate this item’s usage when held in conjunction, as the Energy Sword is used when using melee. Alternatively, could also be a metal blade that breaks down after a certain number of hits. - Ammo Crate: A crate that, when thrown, opens, containing all replenish-able types of ammo except for heavy/power weapons like rockets and shotguns. Can refill 3 guns-worth of ammo, after which the crate is empty. - Snatcher: A bear trap-like device designed as an anti-UNSC vehicle and anti-personnel weapon, will latch onto one of the feet of players and the wheels of a vehicle that drives over it(mongooses and warthogs), which creates drag and prevents that wheel from moving or turning. Can be shot off or will eventually wear off after driving for a certain amount of time with it stuck on. Will not wear off if the vehicle remains stationary. For players, the player must look down and shoot it off or melee it off. Continuing to hold a movement direction or repeatedly moving the left thumbstick will also free the player after a few seconds.
