New Equipment Concepts for Halo Infinite

In Halo Infinite, we have been introduced to 7 pieces of equipment. These are: The Grapple Shot, The Repulser, The Drop Wall, Active Camo, Overshield, Threat Sensor. I have written a previous article on the matter of those, yet in this one I’ll be suggesting new equipment ideas, please take this light-heartedly. I have also taken the criticism against that one when writing this one. The argument of pre-emptive equipment vs reactive equipment. Personally, I think that both can be fun yet in different ways. yet I will try and suggest more pre-emptive equipment.

  • The Autoturret
This could be a turret that the player can use. This would have a relatively slow “casting time”, meaning that the animation to the throw it down would be rather slow and the time for the turret to come out of the case would be a little slow too. This turret also could had a restricted angle window of firing. However, this turret could be quite powerful in defending a position against enemy players. Possibly when the player that used the equipment dies, the equipment is destroyed.

  • The Custom Powerup
Like the Active Camo and Overshield, I think that the Custom Powerup should return in Halo Infinite for Forgers to take advantage of. I would also say that it would need the same makeover as the Active Camo and Overshield and the way to equip it should be the same, yet like the Custom Powerup in Halo 3, it should be customisable in the Custom Game settings.

  • The Trip Mine
This equipment from Halo 3 I do believe was underrated. This is an equipment that, at it’s core, in a defensive weapon to halt intrusions into certain areas. However, the Trip Mine was also frequently used as an offensive weapon. Although a little bit more tricky to pull off, people who where skilled could throw it and then shoot it to deal damage, yet this comes at a risk of dying if the player messes up the action. It was also used aggressively used against vehicles, yet one would need to get close prior to using it, putting them in a vulnerable position. I would love to see this make a return.

  • Portable Teleporter
There are many ways that a teleporter as Equipment can come into Halo Infinite. I will suggest two. One way that a teleporter could be introduced could be in a projecticle equipment (like the treat sensor). This could be like the Grappling Hook as a “Power Equipment” where fewer spawn on maps than other equipment. Yet this equipment could have a weakness, the weakness of it is that it could have a high recharge time, so if players wish to get onto small ledges and fail, there is little chance in them saving themselves. Another way to incorporate this could be that each use of the equipment puts down a teleporter node. Perhaps two or more of these nodes would be required to make it work and when stepped into, that player could be teleported to one of the other nodes available that have been placed. These nodes can be destroyed by falling off the map, being shot at, dying after being on the map for over 90 seconds or the player that cast the node dies.

I did like the Auto turret in Halo 4 somewhat.

And the trip mine would be a nice return.

Portable teleporter, perhaps not. Or with severe limitations.
Like, you can only use it once, then both nodes need to be replaced, and no objectives can go through.

Something I thought of:

Tether Mine: Players and vehicles are tethered around the mine, they can move freely inside a certain radius of the mine, but outside they’re slowed. The further away the slower they go. The mine would consume energy to slow objects down inside the radius and eventually break when the energy is depleted.

Agree with all. The strategies that could come from the teleporter would be insane. The trip mine would be nice to have again. I would like to see both a trip mine and trip wire. The turret would be great too. The ones in Halo 4 were very useful. Decoys would also be great have. They have been handy in the past games. In the campaign I wouldn’t mind having to trade out other equipment to use the others.

One thing to notice is that the equipment in infinite is much more short duration, personal effect. More like abilities. Trip mine and auto turret are much more like the old style equipment where they are set and forget.

I like the idea of the teleporter, if it was implemented like a short range dash then I think it would be very cool. Useful for movement and getting away from combat. Should teleport you a distance in either whichever way you are moving or where you are looking (not sure which)

Personally I think the drop shield would be better if it was attached to the player like an enforcer sentinel shield. It really only needs a left and right panel and should be about as easy to shoot through as the drop shield is now, but it would be much more flexible since it moves with you.

In a similar sense the threat sensor is also a little too impersonal, I think if it stayed centered on your character with a bit more range instead of being something you shoot then it might be more useful. It could be a single ping that you send out similar to the weapon scan that you can do normally.

I would change the Autoturret to a deployable Stationary turret. Make it less of a power up and more of an interact-able object. You get one charge, find a place to set it down and anybody (friend or foe) can use it. It does the same damage as the chaingun (or plasma cannon). It can be removed as usual. Having it like this keeps it from essentially give a team and “extra player” to lay down fire.

If 343 were to make an auto sentry, it needs to be EMP-able.

Custom power-up is awesome and I can’t believe 343 hasn’t shown it off yet.

Totally agree on the trip mine. Honestly, we need all of the H3 equipment back… Ok maybe not the Power Drain and Flare. Although a smoke bomb or flashbang would be cool. It would make the threat sensor more useful.

I’d like a hover ability. You jump up, use it, and it keeps you airborne for a few seconds. Maybe it lets you slowly levitate in direction of your choosing. Teammates can use the repulsor push you faster. Or use the grapple hook and use you as an anchor point.

Another idea:

So Infinite will have the Threat Sensor. Super lame. Wall hacks have never been cool and idk why 343 would think anyone would want that. But I digress. Point is, it lets you see through walls. Pretty strong, right? Here’s the counter: The Radar Jammer!

I know, I know, it sucked in H3, so why bring it back? Because it will actually work as a counter to an even less cool equipment. Here’s what it will do:

  • Jam the radar of enemies within it’s radius
  • Disrupt the wall hack of any nearby threat sensors
  • It can be shot and destroyed
  • It has a shorter duration than the threat sensor, keeping it from being a total counter

I think both items should appear together at all times to keep that balance

My idea:

Constructor sentinel (regeneration field)

●A deployable constructor sentinel that will follow the spartan who deployed it at a slow pace (crouch walking speed)
●with a radius of 8 meters shield regeneration will begin immediately the “1ST” time someone enters the radius
●the constructor sentinel takes 1 s7 sniper round to destroy
●any ally or enemy that enters its 8 meter radius will start to regen shields since it’s a neutral sentinel.
●If anyone in the healing radius is damaged they will immediately stop shield regenerating and have a delay of 1.5 seconds before regeneration begins again.
● duration of the constructor sentinel is 20 seconds

I would like a miw of the Bubble Shield and Active Camo, a buble who stop a few shot like Active Camo

I don’t understand why the jet pack didn’t come back , it was cool to use and really an emblematic spartan equipement.

I also heard the thruster pack (dodge) will return as equipement, I hope it’s true

I thought you said new.

I think a quick recovery equipment could be good. Something that shortens the shield recharge delay and speeds up the rate of charge. Taking any damage stops the effects. Certainly not like the OS instant use and short period of invulnerability.

Deployable Man-Cannon. 'Nuf said.

I was kind of surprised when I found out there wasn’t an auto turret. Halo 3 had one back in 2007, and it’s a staple feature in most futuristic games that have equipment and gadgets these days.

The lack of the Trip Mine is what really confused me. Again, Halo 3 had one, and most games in general have some variation of a trip mine.

I’m also concerned that 343 may add more Equipment in the future, but won’t add them to campaign where you can really experiment with them.

wall run would be cool. tbh they should just add an extra ability to the grappleshot and make it so you can also wall run. kinda like equipment variants. the campaign is already kinda doing it.

it would also fit the grappleshots lore too since it manipulates weight or something

Id totally be for the ones you’ve listed. The teleporters were an idea ive had too, but they would have to be limited in a way not to break objective game-types. A trip mine is also sorely missed and cant think think of a reason not to add it.
couple of my personal wishes would be:

-The the target locater from reach re-implemented as an equipment pick-up. It already only has 2-3 uses so it makes sense here and it Adds an offensive item to the mostly defensive/ evasive bunch.

-grav lift also would be nice to see again. It would need a secondary use to make it more viable, like being able to stick on surfaces, vehicles and players to push them in different directions.

-warp. Use it once to reset back to your spawn point either to avoid death or intercept attackers on objective games.

Grav-Lift and Trip Mine are a definite yes, although I really don’t like the idea of being able to destroy an area at a distance like that with the Locator. Warp also sounds like it would be exceedingly annoying to play against.
