After watching the demo several times, I’m ridiculously skeptical. I know there is a lot of praise and excitement by what they showed, but in reality they have showed very little of anything. As a 3D artist I, more than any general user, am excited that they are working on a brand new engine especially if they make parts of the engine widely available to the community.
If you know anything about game engines, it goes something like this. Game engines are the canvas for the artist, and the tool for the engineer. The quality of the game relies solely on the person or people who are developing the game. To be frank, 343 hasn’t had the best track record as we all know. I think not having a single spokesmen at the press conference is pretty self-evident of the fact that they desperately don’t want to say anything right now out of fear of more back lash.
I’ll keep an open mind once I see we see actual game play… you know… probably next E3 2019. But for now I will remain skeptical because I simply don’t care that what they showed was pretty (which is was to fair) and most definitely don’t care that Chief’s helmet was the old Mark VI Helmet. (which also was nice to see … again… to be fair) I just want 343 to do Halo right for once.
Let me know what you think below.
Also, I also feel 343 should do Reach a little justice, and I was hoping that they would have done something for that game for E3, but hey I guess game engines for the new game are more of a priority. Which is fine too. (no sarcasm)
I get where your coming from most of the positivity is from a quote return to the classic art style
Remaining skeptical is probably the best thing to do. We don’t have enough to go off of to determine the quality of Infinite just yet. However, I think Halo having its own engine is significant because that’s a pretty big investment in terms of time and resources. What that shows us is that Halo is far from being done. I like that.
I have a feeling that this one is going to save Halo and 343, the got a new story writer and removed the guy that wrote 4 and 5, the new writer worked on the Tell Tale Batman game (or was it the Arkham series… I don’t remember, it was a batman game) which apparently had a really good story
While we dont have much to go on, all I can say is that Halo 5 was rushed and it showed at release, the fact that they have created a new engine from scratch shows they are willing to take their time and not have the game forced to a release date. The changes they made to Halo 5 and the artstyle for Halo Infinite shows they’re a company that listens to their community, and so I can’t wait for further information.
Having a healthy level of skepticism is never a bad thing. It’s certainly far better than being blindly positive about anything. The thing is the announcement trailer doesn’t give us enough grounds to make any informed conclusions. The Slipspace engine doesn’t equal a good game. It doesn’t equal a bad game either. In the grand scheme of game design proper. it tells us nothing other than the fact that Halo: Infinity is gonna have some sweet dynamic lighting and (here’s hoping) epic space rhino based set pieces.
Hmm sounds like the right move at the moment, we have some clues from the trailer and comments on how the art style is going to the original. The engine I think by itself is what got most of us on how beautiful and crisp it is.
I agree. With that said, if this is what the game is going to look like, in my opinion it is heading in the right direction. Now whether it officially is or not, right now it looks to be going for the positive. I’ll hold out on my official judegement until we see gameplay.

Okay I agree with first part that Halo 5 was rushed… relatively speaking. It was rushed in the sense that MCC was a disaster that and they really needed to get something else out there that wasn’t broken, but on the other hand Halo 5 is a really well polished game. It ran smoothly, game play was mostly tight and fluid, so in this light, the game didn’t seem rushed. The problem was the fact they added too many things that no one asked for ie. ground pound, sprint, thruster packs, REQ points, etc etc. Plus it didn’t help that the story telling of H5 was highly forgettable.
So with that said, I disagree respectively. 343 Does not listen to what the community actually wants. Backpedaling after making things that no one asked for is not listening. Making a new engine (although very handy) is not listening. Bring back a helmet that everyone loves (after removing it in the first place) is not listening. It’s damage control.
I used to defend 343 back during H4 days, but really there isn’t any reason to.They wanted to make Halo different, and that was kind of the problem. They have dug themselves into a hole which for a while seemed like their own grave.
This is why I will remain skeptical. If they can get out of that hole and show they are willing to get back to the roots of what Halo is to most people, I think the community will have open arms and be willing to trust them again.

I agree. I just wish they had a little more to show than just that. Just demonstrating what the new engine can do in real time would probably mean a lot to fans. Even if things looks a little rough as pre production.
Overall though what the showed was great, and I’m looking forward to seeing more.
It’s good to be skeptical, less room for disappointment. They’ve said literally nothing about gameplay so I think at this point in time it’s foolish to think we’ll get classic gameplay just because of the art direction.
