What could these new directions be? Campaign, multiplayer, or maybe something different altogether.

A likely scenario could be an open-world setting for the campaign, perhaps massive, sprawling maps that give us room to breathe and explore. Not saying this is a bad idea at all but, if that’s the case, I hope the game doesn’t suffer from Ubisoftication and formulaic game design. I still want the campaign to feel hand-crafted and every encounter unique.

This. If they could expand on that feel from the Ark in Halo 3, which in itself was an expansion of Halo CE… that would be a thing of beauty.
I’m just hoping we finally get the massive scale battles that were always teased in the skybox and distant filler animations. In past main titles we saw huge tank and aerial battles for example. It would be awesome to have the entire battlefield to explore - think of all the replay value to complete one campaign level. Do it on foot one time around, then try with a tank, or banshee, or even a different approach on foot.

This is kinda what I’m saying. I’m still a big admirer of Halo CE’s level design, it was semi-open world and had almost no restrictions on the player in terms of how you chose to do things. The best example of what I’m talking about is the Silent Cartographer level, which still holds up as one of the best levels in FPS history. Imagine that but bigger, basically each level could be one massive open-world map without restrictions that opens up more as you progress.

If every level was like The Ark level, it would feel bloated and empty. Unless every level is going to have vehicles available.
If they wanted to add open-world elements to Infinite, I think how Gears 5 did it would be a good way to implement it in Halo. Open levels, optional mission objectives, collectibles, even rare/unique weapons scattered throughout, all without breaking up the traditional Halo formula. I think Halo could improve on that by making sure that the travel between objectives wasn’t so empty and devoid of action.
Maybe the new directions could be a focus on Sangheili’s instead of the UNSC…it won’t be, but I can dream. Would definitely help 343 make amends for them getting rid of playable Elites in their games though.
If you ask me, it means absolutely nothing. What developer doesn’t say something like this when a new sequel comes out? It’s a textbook tactic of getting new players on board while also being vague and not having to reveal anything. It’s like a pro athlete saying “we just gotta take it one game at a time” during an interview. It’s scripted junk.
I’m still not completely sold on the “open world” Halo game idea, but we will see, if they do it and pull it off I think it could be good, I just don’t have the imagination to see it working sadly.
Show, don’t tell.
Wait another week.
A lot of people are anticipating an open world, and I have mixed feelings about that. If it’s open world in the sense of some of the CE and H3 levels, then I’m all for it. If it’s open world like Gears 5 tried, then I think it’s a terrible idea. The open world segments of Gears 5 were the worst parts of that game in my opinion because they completely killed the flow of the gameplay and story

The Gears 5 open world segments were terrible. A few random enemy engagements would have helped a lot. I don’t believe it’s one thing that will be Halo Infinite’s new direction. I think it will be the game as a whole taking a new dircetion, campaign, multiplayer and forge, but I’ve been wrong before lol.

Having an open/ more open world doesn’t mean you can’t have enclosed spaces & levels still.
Yeah maybe like gta where you go to mission starts but on the way theres enemies and side missions but tbh dont want it like that I want there to be a kind of open world option like arena playlist and it’s for your spartan and can do it with multiple players
