I rarely play halo without my wife, and this new CSR limit doesn’t allow me to play ranked with her anymore. We prefer the BR starts, lack of radar, and the feeling of accomplishment from wins that ranked brings with it. We play literally almost every night together. I sadly don’t know if we’ll be playing much anymore since we can’t team up. This sucks.
I feel for you.
But;
-
It disrupts the game too much for other people.
-
It’s a mechanic that is increasingly being abused to grind CSR.
You’re an Onyx 1850. You want to play ranked with a Gold 3 with a KDA of -12.3.
And while I appreciate together time… I’m not sure how match making is supposed to deal with that.
I certainly don’t want to be matched into games against you.
So Onyx and Gold friends can’t party up and play together but yet the matchmaking system will still put Onyx and Gold players in the same game. So it is doing nothing to “fix” the problem, rather it’s just making even less people play.
This matchmaking is garbage.
I would say let them play together, but the lobbies be based off the maxed rank. So if the system matched by division, take the onyx 1850 and match against people in that range. I understand the feel about not being able to play with family. On a side note & a bit off topic, I wonder if there would be less complaints about matchmaking if we had a side progression system like SR rank or something other than the battlepass.
Cheers everyone ![]()

In the Team Slayer playlist changes that 343i initiated with Season 2, more than 58% of the potential game type/map combinations are now BR-only starts.
-
I rarely play Halo without my wife either, and it has been that way for many years. We actually do play every night together, and whether or not the radar is on the screen would never be enough to stop us.
-
My wife and I get just as much satisfaction out of winning Team Slayer or Quick Play matches as anything else.
As others have already implied, some competitors were essentially abusing the system, boosting their CSR by teaming up with relatively low-ranking friends.
Which is a good thing. Overall.
I would imagine very rarely.
Just when the match maker is desperate to get someone in a game.
And I really doubt you’d see an Onyx 1850 and a Gold 750 lumped together very often.
It is hopefully doing heaps to “fix” the problem of squads deliberately manipulating the system to grind CSR. And making ranked fairer and more enjoyable for the majority.
It has issues. But steps like this are helping to make it better.
I think there would be less complaints overall. Definitely. People would stop micro analysing every CSR point won or lost. Or at least, to the same degree.
Not sure it would fix this problem per se.
Where would be the harm in having a social list with the same settings? It would fix a lot of problems but 343 is so reluctant to do finally something for their PLAYING fans… it’s unbelievable.
edit: and don’t give me that 58% BS. Take out bans for quitting, implement FF and accept a quit rate of 42% and we can talk about it as an alternative;)
Glad all my buddies already quit and I don’t have to worry about this problem
Agreed!
The Team Slayer playlist should not have 58% of the game type/map combinations be Slayer BR, especially without any advance notice and nerfing the BR melee damage in social playlists. Easily one of the worst changes in Season 2.
As far as the quit rate is concerned, for several months I have emphasized that the penalties for intentionally quitting matchmaking should take effect immediately and be much more stringent, including the social playlists.
